The ghost of Old Trafford is real. For new players just arriving; It happens when you sign the contract. As soon as the ink dries, the ghost of Old Trafford appears and takes his place in the seat of your soul. The curse then begins. At first its just a feeling, you wake up and you feel a little sluggish, a little ‘off’, takes a bit longer to get out of bed. Look out the window and a quilt of thick grey cloud covers the Manchester sky. “Oh God”. You jump in the shower but its no good, you’re still tired. This should be exciting, meet the players, a new club, a fresh start “whats wrong with me…?” By this point, its already too late and even knowing that 250 grand will drop into your bank account on Friday it wont make a blind bit of difference. You. are. fooked. Where once you used to look forward to the weekend..a big game, nice food afterwards, rest on Sunday, ..now there’s knots in your belly as Saturday approaches. And then the question. “Why?”. Its the question that gets you. 75 thousand fans cheering your name, excited to see you play, you were born for this. Save a shot, score a goal, it doesnt matter because you cant do either anymore. You can’t kick a ball to save your life. Welcome to Manchester United.
