Didn't Sky have 3 commentators...? Martin Tylor is the impartial commentator, Carragher for Liverpool and Neville for Utd. Which to me gives you the best of everything. You have the emotion of the supporters coupled with the impartial commentating of Tylor. I think it is a well thought out way of presenting the match. Also these things must evolve to keep people interested and seeing raw emotion has become more appealing to the general public. I think there should always be an even commentating team which I think Sky gave us. I get that some people wont enjoy that style of commentating but I certainly think as a whole it was an unbiased presentation.

I loved Gary's reaction tbh, I'd rather hear the commentary of someone invested in the performance than a neutral most of the time. Having both Neville and Carra keeps it balanced.

The problem with having Gary on United games especially, it doesn't matter how well the opposition play, it will ALWAYS be about how bad United were! Listen to the Brentford game, most of the match was Gary just moaning about how bad United were & the rest of it he was just silent! He is an excellent pundit but personally he shouldn't co commentate on United games & Carragher shouldn't do Liverpool games because they just become fans in the commentary so don't acknowledge how good the other team is but how bad there own team is

As a red, personally I hate ex players like Carra, McManaman etc commentating on our games as I find it cringeworthy. Agree that maybe Neville and Carra shouldn't do their ex teams' games if they can't keep it professional. as pundits afterwards, fine. I do like Souness and Keane, though.

I'm a Liverpool fan and I personally really enjoy the banter between Neville an carra, especially when they commentate derby game together. I do see how it borders on unprofessional but it's simply more entertaining. In the old days you wouldn't get on TV with a northern accent at all, so making commentary more inclusive / relatable is fine by me

So what, was Neville in the wrong for his similar reaction to Torres scoring against Barca which became iconic? Can he not just be argued to be reacting to the drama unfolding in front of him? It’s only because of his association to Man United that this is being viewed in this manner. I think most people would agree that Neville is impartial during his analysis of the game. But this is a journalist cherry picking an emotional moment and extrapolating it as if Gary Neville isn’t impartial on the whole… it’s ridiculous, he’s human, he’s allowed to react like that every now and then, and I think it’s more for the benefit of the game than it detracts from his expertise as a pundit.

Just watch the highlights of Liverpool 2-3 Atletico madrid and Man city 1-3 Lyon, I've never seen more biased commentary than those games Firmino scores 5 yard tap in vs Atletico: HE'S GOT THE COMPOSURE TO OPEN UP HIS BODY AND DO THAT! Llorente scores for Atletico minutes later: silence Dembele scores for Lyon vs City: he's offside, VAR is so unjust at times Sterling misses open goal minutes later: I was celebrating, you were celebrating (didn't even try to cover up his bias)

Problem with having guys like Neville and Carragher is they will ensure through their reactions that players like rashford etc anybody remotely associated with these two clubs would keep getting hyped vs players from chelsea, man city, arsenal

Happens all the time. When Newcastle beat Arsenal last year for the first time in God knows how many years, all the pundits talked about was Arsenal. How it was a sad day in football that Arsenal lost and how much they let everyone down. Not once did they mention Newcastle and how good they were that day... the winners of the match, at their home ground, with a big achievement... nope, just 20 minutes of Arsenal. The bias is rife and needs sorting so all teams get a fair share of the spotlight.

I might be wrong but commentating and writing an article are different things. Commentary is supposed to be reflective of what’s happening in the game. While writing an article has an element of subjectivity

Carragher did the exact same thing when Liverpool destroyed United last season, the added rivalry between Nev and Cara is what lead to this reaction as there whole partnership is based on them being supporting rivals.

Surely this is a joke right? I love the passion or "bias" from commentators. Jeff Stelling is one that comes to mind. I feel that those of us who truly love the sport and love to see it shown by players, manager or commentators. Don't be too critical of the passion you'll kill the game. The emotion is what drives it. Also asking is this what sky want? Of course it is why else would they pick ex liverpool and and ex manchester united players to commentate on it, they knew that no matter how the game went one of those characters were going to show passion

I've listened to so many Tyler commentaries on Liverpool games and the way he describes a Liverpool goal compared to an opposition goal are miles apart. Liverpool goals are so understated and an opposition goal is described with such glee, excitement and joy. The guy is a joke

I remember when Balotelli first got to Liverpool after Suarez left, and they played their first champions league game, and Balotelli scored and it was great call from Tyler. I’m sure that you have heard more calls from Tyler on Liverpool than I have, but I especially remember that champions league night, and that call was on point.

Don't have a problem one bit Neville being pro Man United commentator. It gets balanced out with having Carragher being pro Liverpool when they score. Would rather they were ex players of the club- than ex players that don't like who they are commenting on.

When speaking about being objective both Neville and Carragher have a huge influence over the fans of their supported clubs. Liverpool fans listen to every word Carragher says and his OPINIONS become facts. Neville is the same for Man United. It isn't surprising when a player plays well for a few weeks at these clubs, everyone is talking about them as world class. There are numerous examples of this. Alexander-arnold at Liverpool who has been poor defensively and only had 2 assists since mid Jan 2022 from over 170 crosses. Thiago was up for TOTS when he only played 50% of PL minutes. I'd say the majority of Liverpool fans I speak with believe they have the best GK, LB, CB, RB, DM, CM, LW, RW (when mane was there) and possibly manager. Similar when a Man united player plays well, he goes from ok to world class, we're already seeing that this week with Malacia and Martinez after 1 game. Their opinions inflate players performances. I used Alexander-arnold as an example as recently Carragher has said he is Liverpools ALL TIME best RB and he's the player he'd most like to play with in the world right now. He's a fantastic player but carragher cant be objective when it comes to TAA. The fact he's had 2 assists since mid Jan 22 along with multiple poor defensive performances, you wouldn't think that's the case when carragher speaks about him. This is one of many examples

Nothing wrong in showing passion when the players and the team is doing well. I just wish Gary would bash Rashford, Shaw or Maguire or for that matter, other PROTECTED English players just like he does to others. Hardly seen him bashing OGS, too. He has more insight than I do and he's entertaining enough to listen to which is sometimes echoed by the people at this station, usually Jamie, Jason, Sam, Andy, Alan, Laura, Natalie, Hugh, Darren and a few others. It's a very passionate sport and incredibly emotive, that's why we love it. Personally I don't think former players of the teams playing should be commentating on the games. I remember years ago in Spain when Michel was a studio pundit and how he reacted when Real Madrid won the Champions League, needless to say it did not go down well with the audience.

Honestly, the amount of dribble coming out of commentators' mouths when the match is on is so frustrating. I loved the idea that we could turn commentary off with the Amazon Premier League games. I wish more broadcasters would give us the choice.

My opinion, feel free to disagree is that I enjoyed having Carragher and Neville on the Liverpool/United game because one played for Liverpool, other for United. Both clubs had someone on their side. But I think that there are those who feel that for the non “blockbuster” clashes (which the majority of the games are) there is a lot more bias/attention to the so called “bigger” team. Example imo is comments which believe that there was more focus on how bad United were in comparison to how good Brentford played for that 4-0 result. Sorry for the ramble.

Imagine caring what Simon Jordan thinks… People enjoy the Neville and Carragher dynamic for the fact they played for the two great football rivals and had a personal enmity between themselves - before being pushed together in a sometimes awkward, but highly enjoyable MNF double-act. It's only human to cheer for your team. If Neville stopped cheering for United or Carragher for Liverpool, the pair would lose what makes them unique and relevant.

It should be. And it was. Until Carragher joined sky sports. That opened the floodgates initially for impartial Liverpool supporting ex- players and pundits. Then others joined in. Though I have to say the man u guys, Robson, Scholes, neville, Hughes, Schmeichel etc are generally better at impartiality then Liverpool pundits. Though I find McNamanan more impartial than the others.

The point of JSandar is very clear, for he thinks that - given his background - Jordan should speak without this condescending tone. I would say that he should do that regardless of background.
