3-5 years ago, someone has vandalized two tall larch trees next to a house in this forest. The trees are now completely dead and must be taken down in a controlled manner before they create a hazardous situation. This is how it was done.

For 3-5 år siden har nogen vandaliseret 2 høje lærketræer ved siden af et hus i denne skov. Træerne er nu helt døde og skal tages ned kontrolleret før de skaber en farlig situation. Sådan blev det gjort!

Great video, I liked the explanation in the beginning :) What would happen if the dead tree failed while you're clipped in with your wire-core lanyard? Wouldn't it keep you suspended between the two trees (in the best of cases)? Wouldn't it be better if you had a webbing sling between the carabiner and your harness which you could cut in such a situation? (No bitching, just an ernest question to a pro which I'm obviously not, I'm just curious.)

Thanks Daniel! We had tested the tree trunk with a log/forest hammer to see if the tree was hollow or rotten. The result was the sound of healthy heartwood. Before I climb into the dead tree, I tried to stress the tree with me lanyard without connecting it to my harness. Should it still go wrong when I'm hooked on, then I hope the eye to eye sling that I have between the d-rings and lanyard rope clamps will break. But after a short time in the tree, I have easily cut off many times my own weight and then it's more calming to hang there. Thanks for your responce ...stay safe! How did your get your dmm sidewinder carabiners on your flip line? Just bought one and I'm not sure if it will go on there

Hi Callum Evans! When this movie was made, I bought a flipline where the sidewinder carabiner was already installed. But in the long run it became too expensive to replace a flipline and at the same time scrap the carabiner ... which was still perfectly okay. So that’s why I invested in a DMM Nexus 2 swivel. The advantage of this nice piece of equipment is that I now only have to replace the flipline itself and then reuse the carabiner and because Nexus 2 is also a swivel then it is no longer necessary to buy a carabiner with swivel so therefore I have switched to the very user-friendly ISC Snap Biner triple locking carabiner. If you are on facebook then I have a post where the setup is shown ( facebook.com/ArboristService/photos/a.324123404415442/837657589728685 ). Note: A Petzl Microflip flipline (which is actually too soft to swing around the tree) is also shown in the post and this flipline is not necessary - all fliplines can be used. Do not despair, you can still use your purchase but it requires a link between carabiner and flipline ... eg Nexus 2.

I'll climb srt up the good tree, attach my spurs once I lanyard or redirected in and go from there.

Thanks Christof! Yes there was also an offer without spurs ... it was discarded. It's okay with maple and if it had been a park or urban tree it had definitely been without spurs.

Hi Christof! Hard to say ... it was not an issue before it was deselected. Besides these two vandalized larches, we also climbed / removed 2 large dying ash trees and a dead maple (...already plenty of spending). Altogether one day's work. In these tall trees the time consumption would be more uncertain, if we had to install the rope from the ground or stepwise climb the neighboring trees without spurs.

Hi dirtydirt! I have mine for about 4-5 months, depending on how rough a job they are exposed to. It's always the one index finger where the stitching goes up. In the beginning I extended the use with a little super glue on loose ends.They are not cheap but still become a indispensable part of my basic equipment!

What if your tied in on a good tree and when your on the dead one it seems like it's going to down. Now your stuck to it with your flip in. ? Any advice

Before I attach to the bad tree, try to stress the tree at the top by pulling it with me lanyard. Should an accident happen anyway, you can only cut the eye sling between d-rings and flipline clamp (which can be cut with your handsaw in case of rescue). You can make a lanyard with quick release shackles used by people that have boats or work in them. I believe they are called wichard

Caritool. They have larger sizes just for this aid.
