My new Goodman outside compressor defrosts a lot in winter. No snow. Temps in 40s. It makes a loud blast sound and fans stop and it starts to defrost recycle. Very noisy defrost compared to neighboring units.

I have the same issue,. I makes a loud screeching noise when it goes into defrost. HVAC guy doesn't understand and says it's normal to be loud. Condeser is less than a year old. Any answer would be much appreciated.

I’ve had the fan blade start getting loose from the hub do that. I had one making so much racket it sounded like two skeletons getting busy on a tin roof. Couldn’t get a blade that day so I beat the crap out of it to re-crimp it. They decided to wait for it to start making noise again before buying the new blade. It’s been 4-5 years and it’s still running. Damn thing will probably fly apart and take out the condenser on the 4th of July weekend.

My unit makes a huge loud pop/thump sound every time it shuts off. Sounds like taking a sledge hammer and wacking the unit one time. Can hear it inside the house. What's causing this?

I'm considering replacing my 15 yr old 3 ton ICP heat pump. I received an estimate for a Goodman 18 seer 2 stage ($18,300) and a Goodman 20 seer inverter ($19k). Both estimates include 10 yr parts and labor warranty as well as 10 yr maintenance plan. Do these sound like fair prices for a Goodman and what do you think of the Goodman brand in general? Thanks

Maybe just give him a Price to Replace condenser or all. 17yrs is not a bad run. go another 17. might as well put the fan money to a new unit with age of unit. hate to put ina fan this year & compressor next year.
