I am new to Tame Impala. Im 49, and my 15 year old daughter wanted to go to his concert for her 16th bday! This was the only thing she wanted, even though I asked her to ask for anything even to travel away. I looked him up and they were on tour. The concert was going to be in less than a week, near us! I surprised her with tickets on the Monday before the concert (Saturday)! She cried of happiness. I was so happy to see her happy! So before the concert I wanted to show her I knew about him and his songs, and I began to listen to his songs those 5 days before the concert. I got hypnotized by his music and this was the song that did it! During the concert as they were playing their last song, they played this one and my two daughters immediately shook my arm and screamed at me saying: “Mom your favorite song”! This was the most amazing concert I have ever been and seen! Now I am listening to his songs every day and crank the volume in my car every morning on my way to work! Love all their music!

A guy thinks he's doing something different but writes the same story three times, making the same old mistakes each time in his pursuit of the thing that destroys him, which is the girl. (The girl can be anything you've ever loved or imagined loving it doesn't really matter.) Each iteration is a stage in the grieving process. The first time it's a party (denial). Second time, anger. Third time, the bargaining. Finally the fourth time: resignation and acceptance. He cycles through this life (the symbol π) unconsciously repeating ingrained errors despite his apparent belief that each time he is trying something new. Three times he walks through the doorway, also shaped like π, before arriving at the current "version" of himself here in the present (the fourth guy who is absent in the field at the end); each time he has something new and heavy to carry with him as a souvenir. Maybe the flames represent the hope of someday "burning the bridge" between the past and its endless rhythm of repetition and sorrow and a future (the fourth man) where the karmic cycle is finally broken, but we don't get to see the future. Only the dog is pure enough to move through the doorway unharmed.

@philosyche5 жыл бұрын
at least you're not walking on the sidewalk at unholy hours of the night listening to this song. the school campus may be one of the worst places in your life, but a school campus has many potential friendships. and all you need to do is gather the courage, slowly, without pressure and say that one word to begin conversation. "Hi." take as many days as you want, don't set high expectations, but don't let yourself down either. love yourself and accept yourself! I love you.

@mikelfrausto41805 жыл бұрын
@@philosyche No worries, its obvoius that you meant well. Loneliness however is not only restricted to those that are too shy to even begin a conversation. Loneliness does not mean that you don't talk to a lot of people, it means that you are not exposed to enough meaningful connections or relationships. A cashier or a door-to-door salesman can be talking to people all the time yet still feel remarkably lonely (because those encounters are usually quite shallow, transaction and formulaic, etc). Making small talk with strangers is usually not very meaningful, either; those encounters are usually very short-lived and give zero long-term gratification, and don't create any mutual trust or endearment in most cases. And even social events like parties can be horrible if it feels like you are sitting anxiously in a room full of strangers, who usually don't really give a damn whether you are there or not. But then again perhaps everyone experiences loneliness in different ways. Your advice may speak to the experiences you've had (and perhaps that others have had as well) but certainly not to most people's experiences, in my opinion. I think you'd be surprised at the amount of very outgoing people that experience severe loneliness.

"But you've got your demons, and she's got her regrets." I'm thinking the girls are demons/manifestation of addictions. They interrupt the path the guys are on (the one guy has the flowers, the other guy is with a girl, the one guy is just trying to walk his dog) and take them away from their lives on a miserable journey. In the end they're enslaved (the ball and chain, not sure about the ax), they're stripped bare and lose their identity. Note the license plate on the truck. It's the same symbol as the portal at the end and could be seen as representing Pi, which among other things represents transcendence. The demons promise transcendence of everyday life through addictive behavior (drugs, alcohol, porn) but in the end the guys are consumed. That's my take at least. ymmv.

The video is about how those guys eventually make the same old mistakes that they had recovered from. The women symbolize their dark desires, an addiction, a sense of repeated impulsive enjoyment. Notice how the the nameplate reads 'Pi' which signifies transcendence. The video starts with the women picking up men and seducing them to return to their old habits and let go of anything different they are trying to do with their lives. I am guessing the fourth guy represents someone to relate with, basically when the first guy sees him he feels he is not alone,. After stripping them the women offer them a ball, a chain and an axe. Notice the expressions of those people when given the objects. The first guy is a little surprised while the woman glares knowingly at him, the second is content and accepting and the third one understands it(nods head). I believe this represents the fact that they are slaves to their addiction(ball and chain) and even even given an axe they wouldn't free themselves because that is what the truly want, and that's what the women show that beneath everything , stripped of everything, that is their basic desire. The portal again in the form of Pi, takes them in while the dog is left out, again signifying that the person has given up his duties and returned to indulgence, finally left in their world of addiction, by showing the burning of the portal. Notice that the fourth guy is present just before the bare scene when they are given objects. It could be to show that the fourth guy doesn't finally give in to his desires or is not an addict, only a person who indulges sometimes.

First guy - Surprised and unknowing, Had to be led to transport. Second guy - flashes prior to negative exchange with woman. Confused. Goes to transport on his own after. Third guy - sees it coming and accepts it. Puts dog leash on bar and waits. I don't have a theory to why, but that's what happened. I've thought it was some form of vengeance for poor male relationships, but that doesn't seem to fit exactly.

fael - I've watched this vid a handful of times, and yeah I just noticed that ! The idea of "different stages of relationships" sounds pretty good, so.... could the 4th guy have been representing "baggage"? Like he was a previous guy that one of the girls still had some baggage about? Maybe that's why he's gone at the end... everyone exorcised their demons through this process, so the "baggage" was resolved too.

"At different times in life I've felt like it's time to say goodbye from some form of myself that's been hanging around for a while, you just feel this urge to move on, like a herd of antelope. They're just standing there in a field eating grass for however long, and then all of a sudden they start moving. You feel like that as a person sometimes. Where it's just time to move on." This is the closing song and its lyrics about making the same old mistakes suggest his metamorphosis should be read with caution. "That's the last chapter," said Kevin Parker. "It's like the final battle - or the final stand-off between optimism and pessimism. You feel like you've evolved into a new person but at the same time you've gone full circle. You feel like this brand-new person but in the end nothing's been changed because you're making the same mistakes." So, looks like the whole going back to old addictions and bad habits while trying to be someone new thing, is it, pretty much. The title is straight-forward, lol. I dig it more now. Donald Glover's Atlanta intro brought me here as well.

@dionestheonly15 жыл бұрын
The guy in black represents the "death" of their past relationships carrying the other dudes 2 their fate so the girls can "bury" them...he relaxed until it was time 4 him 2 do his thing then disappeared. Each girl has a different way of releasing her guy (axe, ball/chain etc). And the dog...well, he was innocent so he lived.

I believe the symbolism of PI is to the cycle (circle) of addiction. PI is an irrational number meaning that it never ends. It's used to calculate the diameter or circumference of a circle. Much like the people who are stuck in their circle of addiction, they are irrational. Preoccupation, ritualization, compulsion, shame, guilt, despair, and then swearing it all off to become a new person, but only to return to start the circle again by carrying out the same old mistakes. The men (addicts) and the women or sirens (their ritual) led me to saying the addiction is sexual. They have an inability to create and/or nurture lasting meaningful relationships because of their addictions. For all of us mortals the end is death, but addicts tend to meet their fate sooner at the hands of their own compulsive dangerous behavior.

I agree with everything (especially the π and cyclical repetition connection) but I tend to think the four men are just aspects of the same individual, entering and re-entering the doorway (also shaped like the symbol π) as they cycle through their old errors again and again.
