Tami omg were you reading my mind?! I was gonna request for you guys to make these a while ago but I had forgotten...then you come out with this video 😅 These were my absolute FAVORITE lunch item out of everything they served. I used to ask everybody for theirs if they weren't eating them and would even go up to the lunch line twice just to get another one of these 😂 they are truly delicious!! Like I can't stop at one or two...or three 😂 you can actually buy them from the elementary school around where I live and I think I might just do that now! They're dangerous but I dont care lol

The reason you add the peanut butter/butter mixture first is so that the flour dosent get over mixed and make your product dense. Looks great! 😋

I am so trying these. They look amazing. I never had them growing up, but it seems like a treat. Thank you for sharing. Today I baked some South African rusks. It takes half a day, but not as hard as one might think.

When I went to middle school (the one I work at as a cafeteria worker now) they sold from-scratch cookies. I only had them a few times, but they were good. Now we just sell David's cookies, which I know are good, but those kids will never know what they're missing!

Either the public schools phased this out by the 90s or this isn't a Virginia thing because I've never heard of these. But it's great reading all the comments from everyone reminiscing. I'll have to try this recipe. Terrific demo and review. Thanks for sharing!

We didn't have these in school, but we had a different peanut butter crunch bar that was almost like a rice krispie treat made with peanut butter and cornflakes 🤤

They were called Peanut Butter Chews when I was going to Elementary & Jr. High School in San Diego! The issue replicating it here in Cali, has always been trying to reduce the official school cafeteria recipe created for large batches for home baking, with many claiming their online shared version being "definitive" but users stating mixed results. So hopefully this one will do the trick!

Interesting. Our peanut butter bars in school had chocolate frosting instead of peanut butter frosting. I grew up in upstate New York.

I prefer crunchy too!!! Jif is my favorite… I like other brands… in fact, there are very few I don’t like… as a little hint (not sure if mentioned in linked recipe) but I wouldn’t use the all natural (the kind that separates) it tends not to work well in baked goods like this… 🥰🥰🥰

@@TamiDunn do you think if I use different peanut butter, will it still turn out. My husband thinks that my organic peanut butter will separate and not turn out like yours.

The time mixing flour into wet ingredients can make a difference on texture. Never know if it would have made a difference and possibly not have liked it the other way.
