if you’re scared of ur hamster you shouldn’t have one...you need to be brave to tame and take proper care of a hamster

Sadly, my hamster died last week... she lived to 2 1/2 years. And I just ordered a robovoski hamster today, and I also work at a pet store. What I do is first get some water on my finger and see if he licks it up, after that I get a glove and pick them up, to get them partially hand tame... normally that works also...

My hamster was friendly from the beginning and craves attention and really likes me. However, my sister got a robo and the hamster kept biting and drawing blood. However, one night it’s like the hamster knew my sisters hand was safe and literally just walked on, gave a few curious nips that didn’t hurt, and ate the treat and was on her hand for a solid 2 minutes. Hopefully things keep getting better and better!

when you go into the room do you make any loud noises? mine used to wake up and then run to a hut when my mom comes round cause she's so noisy. try entering the room at night quietly. if he's asleep, wait for him to wake up and don't poke him awake. when its awake keep calling and talking and holding food around like what the video recommended.

This is great advice. I got a Syrian Hamster from an elementary school. The cage was to small and he was terrified of everything. Now, he will sit in the pocket of a hoodie. He is even comfortable with other animals and children. It took a long time to get him to tame. Now, he is comfortable on long car rides, he will fall asleep in his hamster ball in his new classroom and will even run around in his hamster ball outside. It took several months and some ingenuity to get him to that point. Be clever and don't give up on him. Good luck!

Thank you! I’m a new hamster owner, and I’ve only had mine for a week or so. He likes to run around in his ball, but that’s the closest he’s come to trusting be so far. I hope to try this technique as soon as I can!

ive had my hamster for exactly a month and i feel bad because the only time she has had outside of her cage was when i cleaned her cage but she was in my bathtub...everytime i walk into my bedroom when she is awake she runs into her tunnels or in her hides and she is very scared of me and i dont know what to do because i want her to like me lol

quick question, my other russian dwarfs behavior has changed. me and my gf will watch him play run dig etc soon as he knows im near he will desperately try to get to me for attention and when i so handle and stroke him he will not go onto my girlfriends hand haha infact he ignores her entirely is this normal behavior? if so i did not know how intelligent these animals can be

James Watson, that is actually really interesting as my past hamster, (A Winter White male) favourited my boyfriend over me and now my new pair of male Robo's also seem to prefer him. I don't know if its because he is also a male and so they trust him more, or if its just coincidence? Who knows! XD

I really like your point about how the hamster is the one that is doing all the hard work. I can imagine how a new environment is scary, especially given past experiences. I also like how you show that it's important to take the assimilation to a new environment slowly. This really, really helps a lot! Our robo is very skittish, and we've been too afraid to do anything, so he's been with us for several months, but we have not progressed at all. Your story about the rescued hamster really helps a lot.

@@itsmemaysa so I just built trust by giving him treats a lot until he was always happy to see me, i use thick gloves that i left in his cage overnight so he got used to the smell and when he didnt bite i gave him a treat/put him down when he bit

@@itsmemaysa yes, just take your hand away form him and you can try again and just give him treat when he doesn't bite. my hamster still can be unpredictable but he mostly doesn't bite anymore

I'm so happy! I got a little winter white hamster on Saturday and now it's Tuesday.on Sunday I was putting a seed in his food bowl but he reached up and took it from me.I started feeding him treats by holding them in between 2 fingers and he was curios enough to grab it. I did this a few more time s that day and twice on Monday. Then today I started putting them flat on my hands like she did at the beginning and each time he grabbed it I put it farther back. After a few times, I put the treat in the middle of my hand and he ran away but then he slowly walked back and sat on my hand and happily ate the treat while sitting on my hand. I then lifted my hand a few inches off the ground and he was comfortable with that so I put my hand down and lifted it up a few more times before he jumped off.

I had a hamster named cookie. He would let anyone pick him up, even strangers. Most hamsters do not do that, but this one hamster was special. Cookie passed away of old age. He was so sweet. Now I have owned another hamster for over 2 years, and he never liked being touched, still does not. U can pet him some, but he prefers to be left a lone, for the most part. I am also now allergic to hamsters, so I will not be buying anymore.

I got my hamster a few days ago. I knew I should leave him alone, but I was just too excited and today I accidentally scared him by trying to get him out of his cage because I accidentally spilled his water. I grabbed him and he was very nice but skiddish. I now know I should wait a couple more days before interacting with him. He wouldn't take treats from me. Thank you!

My hamster is AGGRESSIVE!!!! He's a Syrian hamster two! I put a piece of hamster food in my hand and set my hand in the cage like the lady did in this video and guess what.... he walked right up to it and bit the heck out of me! I don't know why he hates me so Mitch but I love him. Can I please have some help! I really want to have a good friendly relationship with my hamster but, he's just so aggressive please help!

EtherealStar maybe try taking it slow....in another vid...I saw that the girl took some of the hamsters bedding and “massaged” it so it would get her scent on it...I did it with my my hamster and it really helps. Try putting the treat on the bedding without putting ur hand in.

this is helpful, I don’t really go near my hamster as she’s super scared and will run away or flinch even if I’m not near her, she did have a hamster in the same cage as her in the pet store and she was always bullied. I held a treat in my fingers and she trusted me enough to take it 🥰

My hamster always hides underneath the surface (he has a big cage) and comes out at 3 in the night and runs back to his place (underneath the surface) when i try to give him a treat or he gets it and runs away him up how do i tame him? I couldn’t help but notice that the aquarium has very little amount of bedding, hamsters love to burrow and the amount of bedding you have is nearly not enough for digging and burrowing :(

mine runs to his tunnel he made so he doesn’t even see the treat i don’t know what to do he ronly comes out at nght and if i come near the cage hi runs to his tunnel i give up

Our hamster never seems to come out of his nest. He'll take a treat from my hand if he happens to be awake and out, but that is quite rare.

They're night active animals. Maybe you go to them in daytime, they'll rather come out in the night, when the light is dim.

I had a hamster and her name was chandler. Probably the best hamster ever! She was so hand tame when i got her and so kind. She only bit me once but that was my fault. Sadly she died from escaping and my dog got to her. But now i have a new hamster who is very skittish and scared so I’m trying my hardest! Thanks for the information on how to tame one!

I did tame my hamster and when I got treats and placed them on my hand she would eat them on my hand ,but later in the year I stopped this routine and decided I didn't need to do this anymore because she already go the hang of it. Then I just kept on feeding her with a treat in between my fingers and she got used to it.I didn't place the treat on my hand for a very long time.Then one day I decided to put the treat on my hand but she was too scared.I thought she didn't want the treat but I was wrong.I did not force her.I am mad at my self for not doing this process for a long time and now she is more than one years old.She still can not go on to my hand and I can not pick her up at all.Now I have to do this process AGAIN for the second time.But I have learned a life lesson here at least.

Unfortunately I had to resort to getting my hamster at Petsmart because there are no rescues, or breeders in my area at all or even within 100 miles from me. He is adorable but I honestly don't believe he will ever trust me or be tame. I am happy to give him a massive enclosure with all sorts of stuff for enrichment. At least I can do my best to give him a good life.

Mine bit me a couple times and it’s not that bad it just feels like u got pricked by a needle gently! But try not to be scared when approaching it bec it can scene that u are scared. Good luck! Btw what’s it’s name?

This really helped me with my 3 scared Hamsters! Although, I see that you have only a few amounts of bedding behind you. I suggest adding more so that your Hamster can burrow and dig. Thanks!

I've had two hamsters before, but never had any problems training them. My current hamster, which I have had for about two weeks, HATES going near humans. It's been difficult.

Interesting that you said the hamster gets excited to see you. I am not sure I have ever seen a hamster look excited to be with a human. They sure like to move and explore.

I took my hamster out of her cage and she ran off and got lost in my apartment. I didn't find her for three days and I was worried about her not eating the food I put out to catch her. I found her by the side of the refrigerator and picked her up and told her that I've got her now. She's never bit me.

Mine is a 2 months old girl, and it keeps looking around and feeling scared. And I kept it in a small carrier because I only bought it yesterday. And when I tried to touch it when I first bought it, it screamed when I tried to touch it. After a day of putting it in the same location, it is still scared but maybe it’s because I have put it in a smal cage with no toys

If you have a hamster, please remember not to wake them up or THEY WILL BITE! You should make sure they are awake first. Being that they are nocturnal, this time should be the early morning, late evening, or night. Also, if helps if the lights aren't too bright.

i believe my hamster was traumatized from the pet store i got her from:( (normally if they’re from pet stores they’re from mills. she’s so scared of everything, and she won’t even go near me. she immediately burrows under the substrate if i put my hand into the cage and she never comes out until i leave. i’ve left my hand there for an hour before. i believe she’s un-tameable and that really disappoints me.

I have never had a robo before so it's my first time, she energetic and seems to enjoy the back of my hand more. She eats from my hand carefully. She really small and it's weird as I've never had a fearful hamster before.

I’m this comment is really late but, i just got a two pet hamsters and when i try to feed them (refill the food bowl) they always bite my finger (which actually hurts). This video didn’t stop the biting but, i will do this everyday until they trust me. (There names are Mello and Coco)

My hamster is a dwarf hamster and I got her from a lot of color guard girls who neglected her. When they weren’t neglecting her, they were mistreating. and by mistreating, i mean they would put her in their bras, passing her back and forth between several people. i don’t blame her for the way she is now. she is a little better than she used to be, she occasionally crawls into my hand. if i move just a little bit, she’ll freak out. i’ve tried every bonding technique i saw on the internet. i tried placing a towel in a tub and sitting in there with her with treats for 15-20 minutes, i tried letting her run around in her hamster ball as much as possible. Please give me advice, i just want my hamster to live the best life possible.

Got my hamster at the pet store (I know pet stores are bad I looked for adoption centers but there were none.) and I named her Lola. I can definitely tell she has been abuse because even when you put your hand in the cage she jumps and then she goes to hide. She still does this currently and that’s why I need to show her I’m not a enemy I’m her friend.

i just got 2 girl hamsters on Christmas and I really like this video because i'm kinda making them come to me, now i know to just let them do the work whether they wanna come to my hand or not I've also been giving them treats here and there but i just set my hand down and see if they'll take it and some times they will come and sniff my hand but then quickly run away so i'll set it down and then they take it Thanks so much for the video I've learned to let them come to e and never force them :

If I were you, I would add more bedding to your enclosure, since they naturally basically live underground. He needs to be able to burrow :) if it’s possible for you to add more, go ahead and do!

Great video. This, too, is the way I have found is best with robos and, as you say, the most important thing is to be patient and let the hamster come to you. They are SO little and we always need to keep in mind how much courage they need to approach big monsters like us!!

I have two hamsters, a Syrian and a Russian dwarf. I tamed my Syrian within 2 weeks. He fully trust me and has never ever but me. However, I git my Russian dwarf about 6weeks ago, he is very very very skittish and even screams if I even look into his terrarium. he started to climb into my hand but one day he ran up to my hand and but it hard enough to make me bleed, even though I wasn’t actually moving.

I can pet my hamster sometimes for a short period of time before she investigates my hand and latches on. She's blind in her right eye I found out, so its kinda hard not to startle/scare her. I've never been able to hold her, and ive had her for about a year now, I honestly dont think I ever will either at this point. But ill keep trying, and hopefully something comes to fruition.

Heh just now got a hamster and watched this video. First thing I noticed was there wasn’t enough bedding in the hamster cage- but thank you! I have a little Chinese and shes so skittish!
