Absolutely beautiful, and I love seeing someone who's not reacting to tokays with fear. I have a female, probably WC, we don't really know, but she's already become reasonably tame in just a couple weeks.

These geckos are really misunderstood. I love them, they are very sweet once they learn to trust you. If you want to see others, there's a group on Facebook who keep Tokays. It's called Tokay keepers. Lots of nice people and their pet Tokays.

It was probably not at full strength either an had parasites making it less aggressive. I just got another one after making a viw to never purchase from a pet store again lol... i said screw it... I'll take the chance an i immediately got a fecal done an it came back with pinworms so i have an appointment tomorrow to get the treatment. This new one seems healthier than my last one an i am looking forward to having this one for a long time. They are my favorite lizards and are extremely smart qn perceptive animals. They seem to be tamable fairly easy at the juvenile stage . Mine now is doing great adapting to me but i don't know how far i can get with a tokay yet.. they are so wild an thats apart that i like about them... even though my tokay is very comfortable with me it has escaping on its mind constantly an i hope i can see that change eventually.

They are so adorable and such beautiful markings. I would love to have one as a pet but I don't know if I have the patience to tame one, and if it ever bit me I think it would scare me off! There is one about 6 inches long at my pet store and they are selling it for what seems like super cheap, they told me it bites everyone so maybe that's why. I feel bad for it and I would like to get it but I'm also scared of it. 😥 I'm wondering if it will be so traumatized by people already that I wouldn't be able to tame it?
@noaht4518
@noaht4518 7 жыл бұрын
i doubt it would be traumatized after so long of not being held
@abyss610
@abyss610 5 жыл бұрын
they're cheap because they're wild caught and the wild caught will be more aggressive. she says about their bad rep being because they will stand their ground, which is part of it, but we almost never see captive bred tokays unless you find a breeder online. and not many breed them because they're so cheap in pet stores, it sucks. wild caught anything will be aggressive (except a peter's banded skink, for what ever reason those little guys are SUPER tame right out of the wild)

I have just picked up a tokay from a my reptile guy i go to, he is a little tank aggresive when im taking the tokay out but once i got him out using your technique and tips, the tokay calmed down within a few minutes and hung out for about an hour before i put the tokay away i was told he's about 4 months old (5 inches long) he actually looks exactly like the one you handled in this video. Thanks for the great video.

I have no clue why people are complaining. I do this in a way with my reptiles. Eventually they learn that there is nothing to fear. after they learn that, they can even have fun coming out of the enclosure! My baby boa LOVES to play. I can hardly get her back in her tank some times, and it's far more humid and comfortable for her. She just loves attention. She would rather sit on a nice warm person than in her warm enclosure, where she can hide. I think she knows how pretty she is haha. ;D

Thank you so much for posting this. I used to have tokay geckos many years ago that I managed to tame enough to carry around on my shoulders. I recently saw one at a pet store and fell in love with it's eyes, and couldn't leave it behind. I have a soft spot for these things, especially knowing that people buy them and often don't try taming them. I just started working with mine and I'm at the point where I can put my hand in the cage without her running away in terror. I hope to gain her trust enough for her to let me pick her up soon. I'm pretty sure she's wild caught, but I'm hoping to someday find her a cagemate from a local breeder.

Slightly nervous because he likes to open his mouth at me. He croaks a lot, extremely noisy lol he must be young because he's not a huge sucker like yours

Tokays are kinda like Canadian Geese, when you approach them they tend to puff up and start to bark at you, then when they feel threatened they will bite. Though Canadian geese are about a couple feet big, you gotta give props to the Tokays who are only a few inches for being able to scare full grown human beings off. What I liked most about my Tokays were that they were so awesome to watch and feed, only thing I didnt like was when they got out they found the most difficult places to get them.

And you don't necessarily need to take it out of the terrarium at first. You can first just pat it's back or something, so that it gets used to touching. And much later try to hold it, after it has gotten used to being touched.
