I'll be honest, when the MB-01 chassis was released last year it didn't do much for me. Fast forward several months, and Tamiya decides to drop a sick Alfa Romeo Giulia Spring GTA body on it, and noooow we're talkin'!
In today's video, we'll unbox this kit, let you know what you get in the box, some build tips, things to look out for, and all that good stuff.

@@poorboysrc very much so. I wanted to get the Hilux down and boy is that an involved build! It is lots of fun. But the instructions are a little wonky in spots! Not normal for Tamiya but I almost have the chassis built.

Another top-notch unbox and chat, Fil! The box-spinning needs some work though! 🤣🤣 I love that Alfa body but still undecided about the chassis, it will be interesting to hear your thoughts after the build and first run. I've heard bad things about the slop in the suspension and those balls in the A arms popping out. Apparently the TT02 steel hop-up low friction balls fit this chassis... good to know in case your balls fall out! 😅 Stay excellent, dude! 😎👊👍

Yeah I've never been considered a gifted athlete, Mark. I figured at 45, nows the time to try. I'll start with box spinning on the internet. The shame of being smashed in the face will motivate me to get better. Stay tuned for more face smashing action! 😂😂😂 As for the chassis, yeah, she's a sloppy one... I'm curious if it'll drive straight! I hope to get it out to turn some laps this week. 🙏 👌👊🏼

I think a really clever this chassis, the Alfa is a cool body. I wished they would put in CVA shocks as it would not put that much on the kit as the other parts not needed balance out a bit. Looking forward to the build.

I hear ya, CVA's at minimum. It's not like they're TRF shocks, just a nice cheap plastic CVA, foe the extra $15 in kit cost, I'd be happy with that. 👍🏻

Interesting little chassis, I will be looking forward to seeing this being built, Fil! And if you're lacking inspiration for this year's speedrun challenge, this could be a fun one, fairly cheap, most would probably go fwd configuration... And that body is gorgeous! I would love to try paint a body like that someday, ha ha!

Yeah it is a funky little thing, isn't it, Mads? Interesting how the gearbox and motor just up and move around. The designers behind some of these chassis' are on their a-game! And I agree that this would be a fun platform for the Speed Run Challenge. Hmmmm... 🤔🤔🤔😉

Yes, now that I've seen both side by sode, I get it now. You're totally right, the BT01 is really just a larger version of this guy. Very interesting chassis design though, I'll give them that. We'll see how it performs... 😳

Intersting type of chassis. Someday we'll have to buy different components (chassis, suspension and body) instead of complete car kits. I'm in, there're a lot of chances for custom ideas.

As someone who has the MB-01 Fiat I'd definitely suggest you get the metal tt02 suspension arm ball low friction (2 sets required) as it will stop the hub carriers popping out the upper and lower A/B arms.

Ahhhhhhhh the Italian Herbie 😂. I’ve own and still have the M-02 version. I find it interesting that USA kits come with the HobbyWing or Tamiya named ESC. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yeah it's so bizarre... Some Countries get esc's, some don't. UK gets a kit released in January, USA gets it in March (or vise versa). I wish I was a fly on the wall in Japan so I could understand the reasoning. 🤷‍♂️

great job on the different chassis types and clarification for those that might get confused if it's their first build! was wondering if you have ever tried tire inner foam tape from tamiya, (part# OP-295). i got some at my hobby store for my Abarth Rally Olio Fiat and i'll try it out once we get good weather here as well. saw the video with your build putting some crawler foams inside and since they didn't have anything that small let's see what happens with this foam tape. cheers and thanks again for the vid! maybe you'll try it out in this build series.

Hey buddy, I used that foam tire tape back when I raced M05 mini. It worked a treat! I really need to stock up on some, because it seems like they're not supplying it anymore with their small tire rally cars. 🤷‍♂️

I hope you do speed runs open to all types of m series of cars including the mbo1 and the mfo1x and even the xm01 pro witch is a m size car witch I think will fit m size bodies.

In time we might grow it to the soze where we can have multiple chassis, but for now I'll have to keep it a little less open, as it's just me managing all of it, and it's a LOT to manage, lol! Last year was awesome, but it was a full time job keeping up with everyone. I'll have to bring on some help as the speed run challenge grows. 👍🏻

Box spinning needs some work, maybe an internship at some english KZfaqr 😅 Anyway, very interesting car, body is awesome (was gutted when they annonced this few days after I bought the Fiat Abarth TCR 1000, well, not the end of the World). Hi Fil.... Most excellent T shirt fella, proper eighties stylee! I'm definitely liking the body with this one.... although I'm not entirely convinced about that chassis to be totally honest! 😬 I studied design at college, and couldn't help but notice a few potential areas of weakness on this one whilst checking out the chassis design on other channels. Also, when things are designed to have multiple optional set ups you often find it is detrimental to the overall performance of the product! Just a hunch, and I hope I'm wrong as it's certainly a cool idea having different set ups to play with! Most interested to see how this turns out in view of drivability and durability, will be an interesting one to follow along with for sure mate! Great to see you getting so creative with your tyre aroma descriptions.... Morning mist rubber?! 😂 I thought you was going to say morning wood for a minute then! 😂 👍 👍 👍

After sniffing so many tires, I feel my nose has developed a good spectrum of tire odor understanding, and I feel that it's my job to share it with you, the viewers. Hahahaha. 🤣🤣🤣 But yeah buddy, I do have some reservations about this chassis as well. The front end components in the back create a fertile ground for slop, and boy, she's sloppy! 😳😳😳

@@poorboysrc Too right mate..... No unboxing is complete without a good old sniff of the tyres! Isn't it strange how they all have their own fragrant identity? I even saw Gav do one this week, which was a first for RC Kicks! 😂 As for sloppage..... RC cars are like women - A sloppy rear end is bad, but a sloppy front is always a no go as far as I'm concerned! 😂 😅 🤣 👍 👍 👍

The A-Z of 'Ty-aroma therapy'! 😂 On that note, I took delivery of my Koswork edition Optima Mid Kit last week..... all those gorgeous carbon and metal components, but what was the first thing I went to? The tyres of course!! 😂 😅 🤣 Boy was I disappointed, hardly any smell to them! 😞 Talk about anti climax, well and truly let down.... £460 for a kit with non fragrant tyres? Kyosho need to buck their ideas up! 😂 😅 🤣 👍 👍 👍

@@poorboysrc apparently the bottom ball joints pop off very easily. That's what's put me off this chassis. Apparently the tt02 metal ball joint improve it but how much i don't know. 👍

I like the versatility of the MB01 its great justvwish the short was 200mm as in my local store there are some great Australian car bodies but tye car they fit is way too expensive for a non racer.

I wonder if the MF01x or even M05/M06 are 200mm? Maybe they would work for those bodies you like? 😏

I am interested in this kit, but what makes me hesitate is how the photo on the box makes it look as if there is basically zero suspension travel in the rear before the tire rubs on the body (when the body is sitting at a somewhat realistic ride height). Photos of the M-06 version don't appear to have the same issue. Hopefully it is an optical illusion or the body was sitting wonky in the studio. When you get this together, if you could say a few words about whether or not this is actually an issue, that would be great.
