This is Part 2 of the Tamiya Monster Beetle build video series. In this video we install all of the electronics and install the shock stays. However, the steps in the build process isn't just for owners of the Monster Beetle. This video will help you with your Tamiya Frog, Tamiya Blackfoot, Tamiya Monster Beetle and Tamiya Mud Blaster build as well. The ORV Chassis is essentially the same for all of these vehicles so no matter which vehicle you have, you will be able to reference this video during your build process.

I too, have the small on/off switch with the wire that’s too short in my kit. I think I will get the bigger Futaba on/off switch with longer wire and cut the small switch off and solder and heat shrink the Futaba one on, so it will reach and fit where it’s supposed too.

That should definitely work John. I know there are a lot of people that say the THW1060 ESC is better than the Tamiya ESC that the kits used to come with. However, the instruction manuals are all based on using the Tamiya ESC. So I think if Tamiya isn't planning on making their own ESC's anymore they need to have a special deal with HobbyWing so that the leads, and the on/off switch, are redesigned for Tamiya cars so that people don't get lost as to what they are supposed to do for attaching them.

@@FastFreddyRC what I actually did today, was to mount the little switch onto a L shaped alloy bracket I made, and fastened it onto the plastic bracket where it should go, because the lead was too short I cut through it and soldered an extension piece into it.

Great building video Freddy. I had choosen the second version for the ESC on my Blackfoot. This is because of two reasons: 1. the dust cover gives no protection, the chassis is open. 2. I wanted tovqccess to the programmin button of the ESC.

Thank you! I think I would have rather put it in the second position as well as your points are completely valid. It’s probably more user friendly if you move it to the top. For now I’ll leave mine where it is but I might move it later. I’ll see after I’ve had a chance to do some running videos with it.

Hi, nice video series you have here. I just purchased a Monster Beetle for my niece and a Blackfoot for myself so we can build them together. We ran into an issue with the mounting of the switch on the ESC. The switch doesn't reach the mounting location due to the wire is too short, but does not look like you have this issue with yours. It also looks like you have a different ESC than we so. I noticed you have 5 wires that come out of the ESC and ours only has 4. The 2 battery wires and 2 wires for the motor but could not recognize the last wire which looked like it was orange in color. The ESC we have is a Hobbywing 1060. What ESC did your kit come with? Also the switch housing is different too as the switch housing on your ESC is larger and can mount to the car as ours is smaller and cannot really mount with hardware but might need to be mounted with a sticky pad. Thanks

Thanks Alex! Appreciate you checking it out! I know exactly what you are referring too. The ESC that came with mine was a Tamiya TBLE-02. But because of the pandemic, Tamiya ended up doing a deal with Hobby Wing as Tamiya was having trouble getting the chips they needed for their own. So there's a couple things you'll need to do. 1. You are right, the switch mounting will have to be different as the lead is too short, and even if it wasn't, it's not going to be the right fit for the monster beetle mounting spot. You'll need to mount the switch somewhere else on the chassis and one option is to use double sided tape to hold it down somewhere accessible on the chassis (which is pretty much what you've said) 2. The wires. The TBLE-02 is a brushless/brushed ESC so there is an extra wire on it if you are using a brushless motor. As I was using the stock 540 motor that came with the kit, the orange wire is not being used. The orange wire would be for a brushless setup. I believe your HW1060 will have the same 3 wire colours as the TBLE-02. So the orange wire will only be used with a brushless motor. So if your 1060 is like the TBLE-02, you will connect the blue wire to the green off the motor, and the yellow wire to the yellow off the motor. The orange wire will not be used. Hope that helps!

And congrats on your purchases! You'll both have a lot of fun putting those together. The Blackfoot was my first ever Tamiya R/C back in the day and I picked one up back in 2016 when it was re-released.

@@FastFreddyRC Awesome! Thank you so much Freddy. I kind of figured it was a Covid special. We'll figure out a place to mount the switch once we build more of the car up. Thanks again and hope to see many more videos from you to come.
