My friend painted the spring on his Falcon pink to match the colour scheme he wanted. The paint is still on the springs after 35 years! (he also painted the shock bodies black)

I had a slop issue like this in one of my cars. I didn't have any washers that would fit so I improvised. I had a catalogue for office supplies and the front cover was one of those clear thin plastic acetate sheets. I made washers out of that using a needle to make a hole and then a hole punch to cut it out. Worked perfectly and didn't bind.

@@TAMIYALegends It was a drawing pin not a needle. I like the irony that both the drawing pins and the hole punch were bought from the catalogue itself lol. Just a tiny bit of slop but made a rattle, you might be good once you get your servo in mate. If not...catalogues.

@@TAMIYALegends Also I'm loving what you are doing here, you've got such a good eye for aesthetics. I reckon white springs would be perfect. Looking forward to how they turn out, I've heard PS works fine too cos of the flex it has. Just go lightly with each dusting of paint.

Of all your projects this one is really giving me back flashbacks to my youth. I thinks it's because I never had the money to afford a top end race car out of the box, I got a lower end car and then gradually upgraded it over time whenever I had the money. I love the way it has a purposeful look and can't wait to see it on the track. Awesome work buddy 👍

Looking quite a bit racier Glenn! I'm doing a build of one of these using a 0-500g digital balance to minimize weight as much as possible, which will be running a long can 380 size brushless, small capacity 3S Lipo, and that carbon battery strap that you didn't consider an upgrade? Well, it is lighter and it reduces your C of G, so I think it is actually worthwhile bud! p.s. I've also had quite a bit of success running sensorless 380 size brushless motors (around 3000kv) on pod axle Tamiya classics, Hornet, Grasshopper, and even the Lunchbox! Using a Blackfoot/MB motor pinion gear and the 380 motor mount from the 'hopper you can mount and run a 380 brushless easily. The Lunchie motor gets pretty warm, but I've had no running issues, the lunchbox still pulls wheelies well even with the front of the gearbox running on a central pivot (a la DT-01) so it doesn't clack-clack, and is way less prone to unexpected rollovers and being upset on the bumpy stuff with the much lighter 380 size hanging on the axle. It most definitely reduces the 'Tail wagging the Dog' that all the pod axles suffer from. Perhaps you could try this out in a future project/video. I absolutely love the difference it made to my low maintenance Tamiya Classics! Happy RC'ing!

On the steering I would use some thin shims to take the slack out. Something like m3 x 0.1mm shims or m4 x 0.1mm shims. RC bearings in the U.K. do suitable shims.

Yeah, I knew you would find that steering upgrade to be of value! The original setup was terrible, and when I did mine last year I could feel it immediately, the steering got way tighter and more responsive, basically a whole different driving experience! I'll be looking forward to next episode, I need to learn about the highspeed gearset. I'll be "gearing up" mine next year just by replacing the wheels with 8th scale road wheels, I just need to find some adapters that fit. I love this video series, you know that already!

I can't remember which steering set I have on my TT02 but I did have 3 washers under the bridge to take out that slop. I had some brass bushings that were the right size allow me to take the slop of the bellcranks. I had them on top while still using the stock Tamiya screws. As always love the videos. Getting parts for my plasma edge kit currently.

So awesome to see. Anyway Glen, my TT-02R clone is coming along beautifully! I’ve installed the 3° rear hubs and a TT-01 one-way diff and the car is just smooth as glass. Interestingly, if using the TT-01 one way unit on a TT-02, you can’t use the 1280 diff bearings on them; you must use the supplied flanged bearing and washers in their place, making sure to offset the one-way to the right (3 washers left of ring gear, 1 on the right). Definitely worth the money but at $40, it’s not an investment everyone will make.
