Just a little unboxing video of the Wild Willy 2 kit and a trip down memory lane of my previous Willies.
Many thanks to Pete Smith who bought me the Wild Willy 2 kit. You are very kind indeed sir.

Hiya Pete - what a fascinating history you have with your Willy! Great stories, from child to man, and most of it with a willy in your hands! The unboxing was very professional, if a little crispy at times. Your willy sure looks superb, I'm sure you will enjoy the process of producing another upstanding willy. Oh, and thanks for the mentions, my wibbly wobbly and your willy certainly sound good in the same sentence. Great to see the old footage again, funny how most of the time you seem to be getting your willy very wet indeed! Thanks for a fantastic Sunday evening treat - all the best my mate! :O)

Hiya matey. Haha do you think we can do any more Willy gags? I'm sure I can squeeze one in 😃 Anyway, thanks for your great comments. Gave me a good titter. A bit sad to see the old Willie's all nice and then all burned. Anyway I can get on with this kit in my spare time. I'm not going to do a full screw by screw (fnarr) build guide. Will take pics along the way and do a bit of a montage. Cheers for now mate and enjoy the rest of Sunday 😁🍺🍺

Awesome !! Nice video 😀 These WR-02’s are so much fun . I had a Willy 2 years ago before it met an unfortunate end under the wheel of a car 😂😀 . Much like yourself being a middle-aged man I’m starting to get back into the hobby, just built a Tamiya comical Frog based on the same chassis ... tons of fun 👌🏻

Oh yeah it's such a great hobby for a middle aged chap. Luckily it has the indoor element of builds and mods for the winter/lockdown. I haven't built this one yet but it's on the list. Many thanks for your great comments 😀

Wild willy got me into tamiya in the 80s. You can use the spare parts from the wild willy 2 tree for a damped wheelie bar. The rc metal winch is amazing and a good solid 550 motor and 8.4vs. Wild willy 2 is simply bomb proof had mine 3 years. I rate wild willy 2 10/10.

Fab to see and hear your Willy history. Sorry to hear about the fire - must have been heart breaking to see all your RCs melted! Look forward though to your progress. I particularly liked the 4wd / 2wd excisions. Thinking of doing that later once I get my comical up and running after Christmas. My first RC & Tamiya after a 30 year break...

Oh god yes the fire was absolutely devastating because I'd been back into the hobby for about 6 years at that point and put all my spare time and money into the cars. The insurance did pay for the kits but obviously not the time! Anyway that was a couple of years ago and I'm doing well with the new collection. Good to hear that you are getting back into the hobby. So absorbing and now that there is KZfaq we can share what we are up to. Many thanks for watching this and your comments 😀

I always wanted a bigger Willy. I always felt this one was too small. But i do like that Tamiya has made Willy hard (bodied). Lexan wouldn't have worked IMO. Lots of people out there like to play with their Willy, especially after the re-release! Thanks for telling us about your Willy Pete.

Well I think with a bigger Willy it would be more difficult to get into small places and cumbersome to lift after you've done playing with him. Hey, you know I was checking your Brat unboxing to remind myself how you sniff the tyres and you've taken that bit out of the re-upload. What's that about? @@PeteWylieRC Oh god I have just read back my message....it does sound like smutty innuendo doesn't it!?....Well spotted Pete mate.....I am so embarrassed! On a related note, my now ex girlfriend once asked me if I would consider having an operation to give me an 8 inch cock to which I replied "There is no way I am letting any surgeon bend it in half like that!" 😊 Yes I took it out because a "Pseudo" friend started taking the piss. I don't mind you taking the piss, but it pissed me off him doing it. I am who I am mate (cough....excuse me) but I do like the way your natural humour shines through in your videos. My humour is a bit whacky and it can grate on people's nerves after a while. So, I deliberately keep it out (mostly anyway).

Hi Pete! Great video my friend! I really enjoyed learning all this about you. What an elegant young man you were, and how you stayed ... the years have no effect on you! Until today I have always been reluctant towards this kind of kits I told myself that it was neither a car nor a buggy, but watching your video I said to myself that it must be really fun to build and drive this kind of gear. I remember you told me that the LunchBox was really fun to drive, so I think for next year a little Willy will be welcome in my little collection. Hiya Alex. Oh yes I can talk for ages about playing with my little Willy as a boy! Hope the double entendres aren't lost in translation! Anyway the Wild Willy 2 is a bit of a top heavy model and best for doing wheelies and handbrake turns. Does topple over a fair bit. I'd probably recommend the lunchbox more unless you want a bit of a painting challenge with the Jeep body. The Lunchbox does need a few mods as explained in my build vids. Also think about the GF-01 kits which are a good laugh. Anyway an elegant young man you say. Don't think you have said that if you'd seen me falling out of various pubs at the time! The years have been cruel to my once luscious hair! Anyway how is it with you? You were talking about having some time off I think. Hope all is well. Best wishes to you 😁

@@PeteWylieRC Yes, I'm better my friend. My doctor stopped me for a few days otherwise I would explode. I went to the hospital for tests and analyzes but everything is fine. I resumed classes yesterday. Things are back to normal. I hope that one day you will take me to one of your favorite pubs and tell me about your crazy youth. In the meantime take care mon ami.

Great video. I'm currently restoring a wild willy original that belonged to my son in law. I was an avid model builder in my younger years but have never tampered with anything rc. I must say that so far it's been an extremely enjoyable project that I think is going to be a success, mainly due to videos like yours that let me see what I'm aiming for, and I have to say that the quality and engineering of these Tamiya models are very good, which is a big help. Hi there. Sounds like a great project. When you say a Wild Willy original, do you mean the one from the early 80's? Parts for that are a bit hard to come by. If it's a Wild Willy 2 then that's a bit easier. Anyway, hope it comes together ok. Many thanks for your kind feedback 😁

@@PeteWylieRC Hi Pete, yes it's one of the first types. It's a long wheel base and I believe that the very first one's were short wheel base. So far I've only had to replace the battery pack, and it had one of the lower suspension arms broken that I have luckily been able to source on ebay. So once the mechanics are sorted it will be mostly cosmetic. It's a great excuse for spending more time in the den and hopefully get something as iconic brought back to life. 👍

I despise when the manufacturer prebuilds things in a *kit.* I buy *kits* to *build* them myself. On a more positive note, your Willy was bigger & shinier that I imagined. With those added bearings, a smooth ride too!

Yeah it is pointless when you need to take it apart to put the bearings in. Like you say the point of a kit is to build it. I always find that with RTR RC's you need to take them apart and build them properly. Anyway yes my Willy is a thing to behold! Many thanks for your great comments :-)

I would love to see a comparison between the original (1980s) Wild Willy and the modern Wild Willy (2) vehicles. I would like to know if Tamiya’s updated (2) vehicle is actually better than the original or not? Or was it just a movie to standardize this class of vehicles and save on production costs or to make them better? If it is better? How so?

Hi there. Oh yeah that would be good. From memory the original Willy had more of a tendancy to fall over. It was good fun but I think the Willy 2 is a better design and a bit more stable. It was definitely in there because I remember thinking that I mustn't lose it. By the time I came to build the kit I had lost it. I think it can be easily mistaken for packaging or something. Have you not found yours?

Nice Willy and Wibbly Wobbly and Willy Chat, Pete! Enjoyed it. I know you will make a new beauty. So cool you had one back then. Wild to have a WW at such a young age. My first ever RC was a Taiyo Auto Wheelie Challenger in 1984 (I think) so I will definitely also build a WW2 at some point in my second RC outing 🙂

Hiya Mikael. Yes I was a lucky young man playing with my Willy! I did see that little Willy lookie likey you had. Amazing how many Tamiya copies there were at the time. Anyway, yes there are still a few holes in your Tamiya collection including this and the Lunchbox. Christmas is coming so why not treat yourself?
