✅ Tamron 11-20mm f/2.8 (View at Amazon) = amzn.to/3wTuzf0 (Affiliate Link*)
(*Disclosure: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.)
In this video, I show you several camera and lens combinations to help you decide which is the best vlogging camera in 2021 for you.
I use the Sony a6400 (no IBIS) and the Sony a6500 (has IBIS) camera bodies, the Tamron 11-20mm f/2.8 (no stabilization) and Sony E 10-18mm f/4 OSS (has stabilization) camera lenses, as well as the Zhiyun Crane M2 gimbal and the DJI Pocket 2 (with and without the Creator Combo accessories).
This vlog test footage should help you understand the limitations of IBIS (in-camera stabilization) and OSS (in-lens stabilization), and why a gimbal is really the key to getting stable footage while vlogging.

Perfect comparison! Showed me everything I wanted to know about using a gimbal with the tamron lens. I’ve been looking at the Feiyu G6 Max, which is a little bigger and heavier than the Crane M2, but it has a payload of 1.2kg. Currently on sale for $200! Same as Crane M2.

The zhiyun crane did fairly well with the tamron lens! I've always wondered if I could "challenge" the gimbal like this and now you've shown me that I can (even though you recommend against it)😊
@EasyPhotoVideo
@EasyPhotoVideo 2 жыл бұрын
I didn't challenge the Crane M2 for too long, so your mileage may vary (and long-term it could cause more wear and tear on the motors). I saw videos of others using heavier payloads with the M2, so I decided to try it. If you're doing simple moves for short durations, it might be just fine. I might try to challenge it more. If so, I'll report back in a future video 😊

Hey great video! on the Tamron with the zhiyun gimble, did you notice more strain or did it become unbalanced when the lens was zoomed in? I'm trying to decide on whether to try that combo(crane&lens) with my A6600
@EasyPhotoVideo
@EasyPhotoVideo 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Good question. Admittedly, I haven’t used that combo zoomed in. Also the a6600 is heavier than the a6400 that I was using, so that could play a role as well.

good video. you said it rightly, aside audio when walking stabilization is the most important aspect in the video. i use the dji pocket and the only reason im considering these mirrorless cameras is for low light video. its been hard to find just a good camera with good stabilization, it seems in the mirroless cameras they dont care for stabilization. canon and sony apsc have bad stabilization.
@EasyPhotoVideo
@EasyPhotoVideo 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, low light is where the DJI starts to become less than satisfactory. I’ve just got my Sony ZV-E-0 delivered and plan to test the catalyst browse stabilization. That might be a good compromise to get better stabilization without a gimbal, but it does take extra editing time.

Pocket 2 with ND was my favorite haha! Your Tamron has some jello effect I haven't seen in other people's videos. It's really bad in your opening shot. It got better on the gimbal but I still noticed it. I want to get it but not sure now. I got almost all the same gear as you haha. I plan on getting the ZV E10 so hopefully my Crane m2 can handle it with the Tamron. Edit: didn't know you could have affiliate links on new channels.
@EasyPhotoVideo
@EasyPhotoVideo 2 жыл бұрын
I believe the “jello effect” you saw was “rolling shutter” which is due to the camera, not the lens. Rolling shutter is a well known issue with Sony apsc camera bodies. I’m eyeing the ZV-E10 as well 😉 As long as the affiliate program has accepted you, you can have affiliate links on new channels.
@realMDizzy

@@EasyPhotoVideo yeah I didn't mean when you do a sweeping turn, that actually wasn't that bad. It was really pronounced though when you were just slowly walking. Bummer if that is how the combo works because I really like that lens. Funny though I didn't notice it in other people's videos who also reviewed the lens doing similar motions. Perhaps the shutter speed was high? Were you in aperture priority?
@EasyPhotoVideo
@EasyPhotoVideo 2 жыл бұрын
I used a fixed 1/50 shutter speed (24 frames per second) for every shot. I was actually in Shutter Priority. The opening shot was handheld with neither the camera body nor lens having stabilization, so all the jitters are due to that (and the amount of handheld jitter varies per person depending on things like what grip you're using and how far away from your body you're holding; I was also waking on grass which is not as even as a sidewalk or floor; also, it's likely the other reviewers you watched are way more buff than me 😉).

Thanks for posting. Appreciate the comparisons. These are truly helpful real-world demonstrations. I have an a6400 and a few E-mount lenses - Sony 18-105mm F4 OSS, the Sony 16-50mm kit lens with OSS, and a Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC DN. Of the lot, the Sigma 30mm is the "worst" when it comes to video stabilization (obviously since it does not have lens-based stabilization). While the Sony 16-50mm kit lens would be a closer match to your sample footage in this post, the Sony 18-105mm (from my eyes) appears more stabilized. Do you think the instability/wobble is more obvious at wider angles? I also have a Fujifilm X-S10 - IBIS paired with a lens with OIS, it is very stable compared to Sony a6400 + lens with OSS.
@EasyPhotoVideo
@EasyPhotoVideo 2 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome and thank you for the kind words 😊 In general, wider focal lengths should appear more stabilized than more telephoto focal lengths. Also, I have heard that Fujifilm does have significantly better camera stabilization than Sony APS-C.
@randkjournal
@randkjournal 2 жыл бұрын
@@EasyPhotoVideo I can speak for the Fujifilm X-S10 - definitely has better stabilization especially when using both IBIS and OIS. I have a couple of KZfaq videos comparing it side-by-side with an a6400 paired with an OSS lens.
@EasyPhotoVideo
@EasyPhotoVideo 2 жыл бұрын
Cool, I’ll have to check out your videos. How does the Fujifilm autofocus compare to Sony a6400?
@randkjournal
@randkjournal 2 жыл бұрын
@@EasyPhotoVideo The a6400's AF seems more "confident" than the X-S10's. The a6400 seems it can lock in more whereas there's some hesitation with the X-S10 in some cases (though it's not that bad). Focus breathing may also be an issue for non-video-centric Fujinon lenses.

IS can be very useful if you have shaky hands or you need to use slower shutter speeds (like in low light).

Jeeesus. That 10-18 honestly looks like crap at the edges, NGL. The Tamron looks MILES better. The ZV-E10 with that lens and a Wireless GO II seems to be JUST under the 720g limit, so I wonder if it would work even better. Maybe you could do a test of that, since the ZV-E10 has a lot of features that the older A6xxx series cameras don't!
