In this video, I go and explore the danish landscapes for some winter photography and I bring out my Tamron 28-200 lens. I just can't seem to let go of it even though I have bought the Tamron 50-400mm zoom lens. I share my thoughts on the 28-200 and why I keep using it along with taking some landscape and forest photos.

Mads, Your videos and photos convinced me to pickup this 28-200. It’s amazingly versatile and works great for landscape photos. I still take my primes and teles, but there is only minor downsides with the Tamron. Thank you. I wouldn’t have considered this had it not been for your videos. My back thanks you too on my multi day backcountry trips.

Carrying one or two lenses has changed the way I shoot. I used to carry a bunch of lenses (not too many, but maybe 5-6) and that was too much. In some cases, it almost paralyzes you as to which lens to you since you have so many options, but with fewer lenses (say a wide angle zoom and a travel zoom) those are you two options and give totally different looks, so you're more focused on getting/making compositions than you are on gear). This is NOT to say I don't necessarily bring the other lenses, but I don't always (usually) carry them with me (I mainly bring them as backups, like my 24-70 2.8, but I prefer to shoot with my 24-120 f/4 lens since it's lighter and covers more range - and since I'm mostly shooting landscapes, so f/5.6 or smaller apertures, in most cases, this lens works great for that and really covers almost the same range as a 24-70 and a 70-200 or 70-180, a bit short though but I haven't found too many instances where I missed stuff beyond 120mm.)

The timing of this video 😂 I'm currently losing my mind over whether to take the Tamron 28-200mm or the 50-400mm alongside my 16-35mm to NZ in 2 weeks. Thanks for the nudge in the 'lighter' direction! And as always: absolutely wonderful photography! Love your work, Mads.

For the forest photographs I liked the beech forest. I found it cleaner, simpler, minimalist and a better overall aura. Fo the lone tree I agree with you. I think the hoarfrost image was much more pleasing. As you noted the fog helped the tree stand out. In the two snow photographs the tree is lost in the surrounding landscape. I agree with you a heavy snow makes for better photographs. With so much growth still protruding through the snow a scene often looks messier than without the snow. I was frustrated by that recently with some photos I've taken along a breakwater in Lake Michigan. The scene with the snow and ice blanketing the rocks of the breakwater was beautiful but all the sand that the waves coated the ice and snow with made the photos look so dirty and messy. I enjoyed your photographs.

Hi Mass you are not a photographer you are a composer ! I am always surprised how you can just by your composition transform a banal landscape in an awesome picture … you are a magician. I am also happy you show that we can do very good pictures without a very high priced lens. Here you use a 28-200 which is rather a lens for family and travel (to avoid carrying different lenses ) and I am also sure that with a simple A7ii the pictures would have been equally good. Landscape is a discipline where hardware is not very important , but the guy behind the hardware is. Thanks for that.

I always enjoy your happy refreshing videos. I like the sunrise behind the tree photo composition in particular, but the forest photos are great as well. FYI, my new light weight travel camera lens combo is the Canon R7 1.6 crop sensor body with two kit lenses; the Canon rf-s 18-150mm f/3.5 - 6.3 stm IS (29-240 equiv), and the Canon rf-s 10-18mm f/4.5 -6.3 stm IS (16-29 equiv). Obviously, the 150mm (240 equiv) on the long end with a crop sensor camera provides even more telephoto reach than the Tamron, and is much lighter and more compact than the Tamron setup on a full frame sensor camera. If weght and size are not an issue, then I take my R5 with Canon ef 16-35 f/4L IS, Tamron ef 35-150 f/2.8 - 4 IS, and Canon 100-500 L lens.

Hello Mads, very nice landscapes you captured, near to where you live. I like photo 4 the most. And the second comparison of the lonely tree photo 3, though I like the other photo's because of the well captured mood. I share your enthusiasm for your 28-200 mm: in my case a Nikon Z6 and a 24-200 f 4-6.3, which also works with VR and in camera VR. It is super light weigt and I like the results. Thanks for sharing your thougst and experiences, Bert.

I like the #1 image. To me it is more of a natural forest than one with trees that look like they have been planted by humans in a straight line. At Yellowstone I have found trees that can be lined up to show a straight line, but two, or even three rows of lined up trees to me is planted trees. That said, I do like all four photos, You always do a wonderful job!

I have always felt the stabilization on the 50-400mm is worse than on other 100-400mm lenses. But I use it 95% of time on tripod anyway and extended range is useful to me so I can bring just two lenses on a trip (the other is 16-35 PZ).

I agree with other people that all four are good, but my wife and I both think that #4 is the standout. As for the shot with horses in the background, you are always mentioning that the photo should tell a story. For me, the story is the snowy countryside in Denmark. I bought a tripod collar on ebay for the tamron 100-400 lens which with one layer of gaffer tape on the inside fitted perfectly on the 50-400. Mine cost £45 but I see now some models are going for £20.
