I bought this lens at launch, and it has been my workhorse ever since. The flexibility for all types of photography is unmatched, it's cheaper and lighter than a bag of primes, and it's damn near perfect optically.

How sharp is it at the 150? As a sports photographer my biggest issue with the 70-200 Sony 2.8 is how soft it is at the telephoto ranges. Would love to hear, thanks!

Great review as always! After 6 mouths usage, it is my main lens now for shooting wedding videos, portrait or causal shooting. Love the range cover so nice and the optics is good enough to handle almost any situation. It's so convenient just bring a wide prime/ zoom lens with it, and you able to capture wide, mid and long range. Sometime just want to be lazy or not able to change lens, then this is the best choices!

How do you shoot video with this lens ? Handling it is possible ?
@johson1994
@johson1994 2 жыл бұрын
@@ClementFaucher To be honest, it's not comfortable for handheld since it's a front heavy lens. Most of the time film some short B-roll style short, also I use it with a7s3/ a7iv which has active stabilization, handheld video not the best way for it. But when you use it on tripod, it is quite a good option. I can set at f/2.8 for constant aputure, from 35 to 150. It's like a 24-105 bigger aputure version, better at some dim lighting scenario.

Great review. You really put the lens through its paces and it delivered with flying colors. I switched to Sony (from Pentax and Fuji combo) and decided to go all Tamron zooms for my lenses.If I had to pic my lenses over again, I would probably let the 28-75 and the 70-180 go and get the 35-150 instead. I am an old timer and have shot Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Pentax and Hassy systems extensively. The images I get from my A7RIV and the Tamron lenses are truly in the hi-res medium format territory. I am blown away by how good these Tamron lenses are.

Hope they'll make it in RF mount, as i could sell at least two optics (24-70 and 70-200, both weighting more than the 35-150 alone) which will be covered just by this Tamron on my R6, i can shoot all day without changing lens! I found this lens to have a major focussing flaw.. back focus when shooting moving objects in low light situations. I shoot dance competitions and when the dancers are near the audience the focus finds the audience faces and goes from the dancers. Crazy lens! You say it's big and heavy, but given the parameters it actually seems fairly small to me. I'd be interested to see this on APS-C one day, especially Fuji. When you consider that the Fuji 50-140 is a bit longer, and almost as heavy, with less zoom range... Well, it kind of makes you want to see this lens come to Fuji X mount!
@MatheusPratta
@MatheusPratta 2 жыл бұрын
I'm really hopeful to see Tamron bring some nice lenses to Fuji, such as the 17-70mm f2.8... The 35-150mm f2-2.8 is also a nice option, but doesn't make much sense on Fuji being full-frame, maybe an even better crop version though?
@Eikenhorst
@Eikenhorst Жыл бұрын
@@MatheusPratta Normally I would agree with you that it makes little sense to carry the full frame weight and only use half the light. However, as Joel states, the APS-C 50-140 F2.8 lens (which is kind of the 70-200 f.28 equivalent lens) is even heavier and has less range. So this is not an entirely crazy thought here. Still a shame of all the light being wasted though.....
@PiTdeLyX

Absolutely crazy Lens, such a cool design! It basically combines the 24-70 and 70-200, put a wideangle lens into the bag and you're good to go. Only complaint I hear a lot is the weight. Carrying around such a lens over a 16 hour wedding will take some strength, especially compared to the flexibility that a prime offers with it's size. I am still torn on whether this is the best lens ever or just the best concept ever.

I agree completely. In fact, I love my 70-180, but wish it were 200mm. I wouldn't want to sacrifice another 30mm on the long end. I would be in favor that it is the "best concept ever."

@@NikosPer I see your point, but at the same time, it not always about versatility if you're not able to get the shot. I do a lot of event photography and the 150 range is just a bit too limiting for me. But I find between the 28-75, and 70-180, it works very nice. Plus, speaking about versatility, both lenses are extremely lighter than the 35-150, which to me makes a huge difference when shooting an event for 4 or 5 hours. Everyone has their own needs and perspective.
@NikosPer
@NikosPer 2 жыл бұрын
@@martin9410 just an amateur here-i dont own the lens, my point was about that you dont need to change lenses especially in the professional field which might be crucial for money shots. Even at 150 you may crop a bit and even AI upscale it later. Also dont forget that going out with a "35-150" in back of your mind, you might position yourself in places that you would avoid otherwise. Just my amateur thoughts.
@martin9410
@martin9410 2 жыл бұрын
@@NikosPer I understand...and many are in agreement with you. I've held the lens for a brief time and it is a heavy lens, but for some, that won't be an issue. I always wonder how the apture blades work .and how when they are out of the way ( wide open ) dark corners are common. And when they are in the way, usually the corners brightens up. It doesn't make sense for me how the camera sensor doesn't see the apture blades when you step down .can you make a video about the topic? Thank you
@kevindiaz3459
@kevindiaz3459 2 жыл бұрын
When wide open, peripheral light is partly blocked in regards to the outer portion of the sensor. Lens hoods try to mitigate some of this, allowing more light to come in from the corners (the reason for the petal design), but nothing can negate physics. Also, the iris is so wide at this point that the corners really can't see the outer part of it due to limits of lens design (the barrel itself will block some of the peripheral light). When stopped down, the outer corners can now actually see that peripheral light fairly un-impeded. So you are actually looking at it wrong. When wide open, it isn't that they are out of the way, its that the light is focusing in a way that can't effectively expose the corners, which is because the way the light gets blocked. When it is stopped down, the iris is now small enough that nothing is blocking that light. There are probably more detailed ways to explain this, but this is about the simplest version I can muster LOL

@johnz5359
@johnz5359 Жыл бұрын
I know I'm looking a gift horse in the mouth because f2-2.8 is absolutely revolutionary for this focal range, but I really hope one day we can get to a point that unless you're a serious professional that NEEDS an f1.4, nobody needs primes anymore. I would have gotten this lens in a heartbeat if it was a straight f2 or even f2.2, but the difference between 1.4/1.8 and 2.8 for 85 and 135mm is just too great right now. But this lens is really amazing, and I hope it sells well and Tamron continues to innovate.

I always look at this lens and not sure if grab it or no XD i am not big fan on only 35mm wide end but really like that it goes to 150mm and I am fan of f2. Though honeslt it looks maybe a bit more useful than new sony 24-70 - I really expected that to competite this not being refresh of og 24-70 I like when manufacturers ignore refresh idea and makes something comppetely new for eg I liked that sony remade 16-35 g to power zoom and not just refreshed zeiss.

Hi Christopher, do you think the performance will be the same in the Nikon Z version?

Wow, I thought it would be rubbish like my 90's tamron 35-105mm 2.8 but this is really good!

No, forget all you knew about the rubbish plasticy Tamrons of the 90's. And this is the best of the best in what Tamron has done so far -- superior to the 28-75 2.8 RXD, 70-180 2.8 etc.

@@catalin-ap the old 35-105 and 28-105mm 2.8 were well built to pro grade, its the optics which were suspect, i'll certainly think about this new one though
