ive had this lens for a few years now and the previous owner said they've tried every single way to remove the filter so i never really bothered to try. fast forward to 2 minutes ago i tried the mousepad technique from here and it worked. effortless! finally. can't wait to try it out and see if there's less haze with the filter off.

Thank you so much!! I was struggling to remove a filter stuck on my lens. I tried by many times and many ways to remove it but nothing worked. Almost send it to a professional that would have cost me money when I saw your video in a last attempt and the rubber band solved my problem. Put it on my bag from now! Thanks again 🙏🙏

Thank You!! I tried everything else first, but what did the trick was removing the inner ring that holds the glass filter in place. I had to still use the rubber band to remove the remaining metal ring. It was really stuck, but came out. The filter is history, but the lens is intact. YAY!

Thanks for the instruction video! The mouse pad did the trick. Had an ND filter and a polarizer filter stuck together. Is there any good method from keeping from getting stuck together? I was very conscious to not over tighten them, but I guess they got tighter as I rotated the CP filter.
@DigitalGojaUSA
@DigitalGojaUSA 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Dennis. Glad we could help! Main way to avoid getting them stuck like you said is to not over tighten them. Keep a loose grip when rotating the filter. Over time they do tend to tighten from continuous use, so removing the filter between uses could prevent jamming in the future.

Despite taking care to put the filter on correctly, I managed to cross thread it and it was jammed on good. On my new camera! I didn't have a filter wrench, but I tried the latex gloves and a silicone coaster (in lieu of a mouse pad). I tried the tiny screwdriver and it appears my filter doesn't have a removable retaining ring. All I managed to do was crack the glass. I ended up having to use a flat headed screw driver to force the filter off. I saved the lens, though. I ordered a new filter (fortunately, the least expensive camera accessory) and a set of filter wrenches. I'll be even more careful with filters and other accessories in the future.

You saved me by showing in 2:26 that there are two different parts in a polarizing filter. I was able to grap the portion, that is attached directly to the lens, with my fingernails. I modified the last technique to remove the glass from the filter ring. The UV filter I had was a Tiffen and it did not have notches but tiny round indentations which I was able to enlarge with an ice pick and then I could remove the ring that held the glass in place. The filter ring was screwed in improperly and so it is still imbedded in the lens but at least I now have a lens surface I can clean.

The biggest problem I have is breaking filters due to lens hood fitting. The lens hood fit the lens fine, but not when a filter is fitted. The lugs are then too long and touch the filter glass. Which means it only needs a small knock and you've broken you filter. It gets jammed, and I have had the broken filter glass scratch my lens. Poor design. Watch out for this guys. I'm looking for a push on cap now. 🤔 Or I'm going to modify my Canon cap 😳

The trick is to try and get the best grip possible without damaging the filters. Try using 2 rubber gloves, or a glove and a mousepad, or two mousepads. Whatever allows you to get the best grip on both. Hope you're able to get them unstuck, good luck!

IF YOU ARE REALLY STUCK PLEASE READ. I had the MOTHER of all stuck on filters. I was so close to smashing it. I watched so many videos on how to remove. In the end, I got a cleaning glove, placed it on the floor on top of a rug, placed the lens face down on it and push down HARD and twisted. The extra weight I was able to get from this had it off in seconds. My hands hurt so much from the other methods.

@DigitalGojaUSA
@DigitalGojaUSA 4 жыл бұрын
Interesting way to get a filter off. Using a hack saw can help remove a filter, but can it also do some damage to the filter and possibly the lens if you're not careful. Using a hack saw should only be used as a last resort. We recommend trying one of our methods or calling a professional first. Glad you were able to get it off though! Putting the filter in a freezer is an interesting method.

As a preventive measure, I have had success with swabbing a very tiny amount of WD40 or petroleum jelly around the periphery of the threads. Just enough as a thin film, not to drench it. They don't jam up anymore. And yeah, brute forcing is still not recommended. That's only to remove them if jammed. This is one reason to like the Bayonet style filters. Never have to worry about it.
