Bravo Moena, j'aime ta nouvelle couleur de cheveux, tu es superbe.Il y a 10 ans je t'avais dis au Hollywood Bowl que tu étais la meilleure. Oui déjà 10 ans, et tu t'es encore améliorée. Merci Tumata Gil Evrard

We had a workshop w/ her and she showed a move (at 2:06) that even she herself said is "not Tahitian" but it helps to stretch/workout & help w/ dancing.

Elle danse trop bien rien a dire, c'est clair qu'elle mérite son titre!!!!!! De ma vie c'est la premiere fois que je vois quelqu'un danser comme ça. Les "tamau" le "farapu" et tout le reste était super.

Wow she is a white half caste like me! (judging by her name) and literally the BEST tahitian dancer I have ever seen! That was the coolest contemporary tahitian choreography I have ever seen.. and I have never even seen some of those moves before!.. Very creative and Wow... Props to her!

Actually she’s fully Tahitian. Her mom hails from Pitcairn island, so she has some British ancestry far back, but genetics are like winning the lottery. You never know what’s being passed down. Half cast is a pretty discriminative word...

@forme3h yes she entered for her group Tahiti Ora as a solo dancer and won best Female Dancer at the Heiva I Thaiti! :D I believe this is the first time Tahiti Ora has competed at the Heiva...bc as their former group, the Les Grands Ballets de Tahiti, didn't compete either, but just tours and performing!

@eLtherd of course, I respect ur opinion, and everyone is entitled to have on:D If u don't like it then that's ur choice:D And I understand how u feel, but things change, for some in a positive direction, for others...not...that's life--- Ori as an art form and traditional dance has change a lot, but I wouldn't say it's a bad thing, but it's always like that, if ur used to how it used to be, it may not be the same when time change^^,

not trying to call you out but she is most definitely adding some belly dance moves, they are not traditionally tahitian, however, she is amazing at them and i like the incorporation.

French influence, I believe. Not traditional - but a LOT of Ori Tahiti of today is no longer traditional. Things change. Belly dancing is definitely a part of Ori Tahiti now, done both by female and male dancers. 🤷‍♂️

☽ аиаѕтаsіa ☾ Nothing to do with French. What is traditional? Ori evolves constantly, and what’s seen as traditional now was once modern! The group Moena dances with, famous Tahiti Ora is modern. Before that she danced with famous modern groups like the Les Grands Ballets de Tahiti which had modern and jazz background as well as ballet. Heiva is traditional with strict rules and protocols. All her steps are basic steps. And yes only belly dance move is the Ori Opu/belly roll.

When learning basic steps in the Ori, the belly dance is part of the learning. Videos from the 70s showing vahine ori doing the belly dance. Back then it was more side to side move and the belly dance evolve into "washing machine" move, where the butt is moving in circle up and down. 😊

@eLtherd why? She did an excellent job, and won! Bc of the rules Moena couldn't do her magic and do her extravaganza as she's known for, but she did at great traditional routine! RESPECT!

It’s more about strength than weight, and of course everything is easier on the body if not heavy.

Wow Gille87, u seem to be very obsessed with Moena?? I mean, I dont blame you, she is a very amazing, beautiful and talented world reknown performer. But, maybe u should cool it down and dont take things so personal. After seeing dozens of tahitian videos, I seem to keep seeing ur name. Talk about cyber bullying...at the end of the day, the tahitian dance is incomparable and Moena is the best I've ever seen. Se détendre!!
