I switched from Notion to Obsidian but this time I’m not tempted. The community plugins in Obsidian allows you to truly make it your own in terms of appearance and functionality.

exactly, once you use obsidian you felt like you finally found your home, where you can be safe. you know that your formatting will always work in the future, and your file is stored locally. it's super fast without latency, the typing experience is amazing. you don't need to worry about constantly migrating your data. it's so good, so user friendly, everything were there with purpose, and all the features were created with thoughtfulness.

- Tana is a step forward and two step back: proprietary online service and no local file editing. - Obsidian edits local Markdown files but it's proprietary. - Roam and Notion are online and proprietary. - Logseq is Free Open Source Software, works locally with Markdown file and optionally in a web browser still editing local files without uploading them to a server. I'm sorry for the others but when it comes to personal knowledge management being FOSS and editing standard local files are preconditions for digital self-sovereignty.

My initial enthusiasm for Tana has faded some the more I learn about it. Not that I'm suggesting that it is all hype. But the main feature seems to be Supertags, which is nice if you need that kind of database function. I don't. But I will happily try it (on the waiting list) and see what I think after using it.

I've been using it for about a week and a half. Tana is an outliner database creator which is kind of a new thing. Besides this new mashup, It's advantage is that it can do pretty much everything the other apps can do, but much much faster. And maybe the most important aspect is that you can restructure your setup on the fly. You can build and experiment without fear because it's so easy to change things. I've tried and used pretty much everything within the PKM/TFT space, Tana is a game changer.

To me, to qualify as a Obsidian alternative, the application must be on top of a local folder of plain text files. Otherwise, I just can't trust that the company will be available in the next 20 years.

Is there something different about their "supertags" versus just you creating a tag for "projects" or whatever the super one would be? I mean, I use a super-category, category, sub-category columns in spreadsheets, but they work the same - it's just an imaginary abstraction. How is this different?

While I am trying to remember that shiny object syndrome is a thing, this looks interesting!!! Like natural language from Todoist marries databases #Notion AND network graph view? BUT! I used to be a ClickUp fan and while I still do love ClickUp, what I learned is that if you try to be everything, you are kind of meh. ClickUp tries to do everything in my opinion rather than encourage the user to think of ClickUp as a part of a "second brain" ecosystem. If Tana is gonna try to be everything, I hope Tana is humble and collab rather than doing like ClickUp saying you are better than everyone else when you are in fact not because ctrl + f is a crucial feature. Especially if you have ADHD like me! With this said, I signed up immediately because I am super curious but at least this, I will try to not onboard a team without deciding what tool I really gonna stick with longterm first. Simplicity and Lean, and geeking I guess? Cheers! Thank you very much for this nerdy video that turned a gloomy Wednesday into a sparkling evening here in Sweden despite we not having sun for month to come.

this is yet another bloat Notes. here the thing, you achieve more by separating your todo tasks, calendar, gantt, or kanban into separate specialized apps. from my experience, combining everything into one app is very stressful. you have to deal with multiple pages or folder with all different purposes & views, it took me 20-50 seconds to figure out what i want to open, which page, before i finally open it. it took too much processing power. while with dedicated specialized app, i can just open the app, i know right away what to do, because there are already a great System set up for me. These days, Obsidian is the most powerful notes app. it basically replaced everything that i tried. Obsidian is great, the features felt thoughtful, it's there with purpose, and i'm sure the devs are care about the users and they're an experienced note taker themself. because the app felt so organic. everything that i wish a notes app have, Obsidian have it. while with the other note app, it's like they create a feature for the sake of creating it, without much of a thought, the result is a trainwreck features that can't be used seriously, just mix features from multiple apps, and call it a new app.
