In this video I review and give first impressions of the Arena: The Contest expansion of Tanares Adventures using the new Ultimate Edition Tutorial Quest book. I am giving my views and thoughts on the game based on myself learning the rules and playing Co-op with my partner of the first two quests from the tutorial.

Great explanation and commentary on the game! I've received mine, and I'm planning to get the Ultimate version returning backer pledge, and probably also the legendary box for the terrain and extra characters and such. Not sure about Penumbral box yet. I've only done the tutorial as well, but I can already see how there is more depth to the combat system than I realized before. From what I've heard, the quests are all pretty different and unique in various ways, so you don't end up just doing essentially the same thing every time like some other games I've played. I'm really looking forward to getting deeper into it now!

Yeah I agree about the depth of the game, its very easy to play but hard to master as I said in the video. Also it is interesting that out of the characters we decided to start to play the campaign with were all from the RPG content or legendary box, so plenty of cool characters available in the expansions!

Thank You :) Yeah it can take a while, most fulfilment companies have had so much at one time, I think my Tanares was sitting unshipped in the UK for 2 months before I got it.

@@BoredGameShenanigans haha yeah I already received the Tanares Adventure box back in February :D but w/o the arena content is kinda useless. It’s just sitting on my shelf an mocking me every day i step into my office.

@@brianhua3495 I thought about it but decided not to because they plan on remaking that campaign in the new ultimate kickstarter, so I dived straight into the Tanares Campaign instead!

Great time for this review to go up! So would you say a revised quest and rulebook are necessary? Or does the game get along fine as it is?

I would say after using the new tutorial pdf which is online and was on the Update 50 for the Tanares RPG campaign instead of the tutorial included in the box that is a superior method as it is one book instead of using 3. I would say after that using the 2 books (Quest guide and Journal) is simple to follow and use and doesnt need the upgrade. Existing rulebook is also fine I have not had any questions during the game it did not have an answer for.

This was a great video! Im new to the game and backed the Ultimate campaign so it'll be a while before I get a chance to play it. Are you planning on doing a campaign walk through?

Thank you! I will likely make more content on Tanares in the future, ideas I have will be to pick my favourite minis and do a top 10 of them and also to maybe review each campaign week (every 4 sessions) as I play. Is there any other particular content you would like to see? What would you like to see in a walkthrough?

Both sound like good ideas. When I say walkthrough, I mean like a full gameplay video of you playing through each quest? I'm guessing not as you've already started the campaign! Lol

@@IrishNMC currently I don't have a good setup for audio for a playthrough/walkthrough but I have recorded footage of the two tutorial quests which I used in this video, I will see if I can figure out a way to do it in the future but right now video and then commentary recorded before/after recording the footage is what I have been doing.

the base game blew me away. Tense at turn 1 already. You don't need anything beyond the base game.

I've not played that, but I wouldn't say its the same genre as Tanares, do you like any campaign/long games?

@@kosterix123how do you like Isofarian Guard? It looks very grindy to me. Is there a proper strategy in it or just a grindy campaign?

@@Deltium5683 the standard rules that come with the game make it too grindy. I posted a walk in the park mode in my channel, as well as an easy mode. Instead of having to battle the same monsters over and over again, you battle them once, tick that enemy type off, and next time you meet it you immediately collect its rewards. Oh and you can teleport into any town. This doesn't make the game easier but now the logistics come through better. In the end whatever works for you of course. If you don't like to work for resources to have some gear craft so you can stand a chance at the next boss, it's not for you. You would be missing out on the cool story, but I guess you have plenty of books to read, so no loss there either.
