wat if someone takes possession of ur card, is it still secure, as the private key is stored in the wallet, so is it accessible for the one who holds it and transfer ur cryptos?

That’s what the accesscode is for. Without the accesscode you can’t access the cards.

Yes, they are very responsive, but I will say I’ve had mixed results when it comes to addressing my questions. Some of the more technical questions they tend to cut and paste responses that do not necessarily address the question. When the question is moved further up the chain, a few times I’ve had the same cut and paste response, which again would not address the question. So, for me, it’s sometimes taken a bit of back and forth interaction to get the information I was seeking. But they typically are quite responsive in those interactions.

This wallet intrigued me due to the CC style cards. But I am just not down with the "trust me bro" closed sourced firmware. It's not that I don't trust them, I just don't trust anyone which is why I'm in crytpo to begin with. Darn, thanks for the review, great job.

I understand. But even with open source firmware-if you don’t know how to read the code yourself you’re still relying on someone else to tell you it’s legit. And Tangem’s firmware was audited by a third-part cyber security company and has never been hacked :) Basically, there’s always some level of trust involved. Nonetheless, it’s a great wallet to use instead of a hot wallet in my opinion. Thanks for watching 🤙 - Alex

@cyberscrilla Absolutely... but let's assume I don't know how to read the code. If there is a vulnerability, it would be caught and widely vocalize quickly by the public, forcing the company to make changes rapidly and close the hole. An audit is great, but it is only good at the time the audit is done. It can be quickly changed soon after, and no one would know. Do I think a legit company would do that? No. But again, I don't go with the "trust me bro" guarantee. I am sure Tangem is great for the novices that still have a little trust in society, but I don't, unfortunately :(

@@BitcoinStark I completely understand what you’re saying, but ultimately there’s no way around accepting some level of trust from others. So either way, you’re still trusting some “bro” from the community. The only solution would be to learn how to inspect the code yourself. Then you just have to trust yourself.

@@cyberscrilla bingo:) For this excersize let's assume I do know how to read the code and all is well! ;) All good, I was looking for other wallets that I could fully trust myself using along with my Trezor that didn't even have a physical attack vector. But, nothing is 100% full proof. But I suspect the tech will only get better as this young industry matures.

You are not realying on "someone" to tell you it's legit, you are relying on many many eyeballs auditing the code and trying to hack it. In optimal cases there are even rewards for hacking it.@@cyberscrilla

Great video again, thanks. I’m a V1 user but bought V2 using your link. Got the 10% off. I think one difference is in V2 they’re removed the possibility of changing the password if you have 2 card of the same wallet. Saw that as a point of failure in V1.

No, they still have that capability, but it appears you can disable it. I was able to do the “Forgot password” option and then set a new one using two cards, but as I recall it only set the password for the one card, not the other. Also, another KZfaqr showed the option to disable the use of 2 cards to reset the password, but I haven’t personally played with disabling the option yet.

This wasn’t mentioned but if you have the original Tangem Wallet/card you can still keep that wallet along with adding your New Tangem 2.0 card. You’ll be able to switch between accounts, you just have to scan each card for whichever wallet you’re trying to access.

Turning your phone on airplane mode or removing the SIM will not eliminate the threat of spyware recording your actions and keyphrase. Most malware of this kind records locally and batch uploads at a convenient time or when there's a viable connection. So as soon as you stu k your DIM back in the phone or turn WiFi back on an attacker will potentially have your seed phrase.

@@cyberscrilla It isn't, I used 'most' and 'nearly' to account for weird edge cases that may be out there but I've never seen malware that does it like that. If you took a moment to think about how these hackers operate it would become blindingly obvious pretty quickly that they're not sat there all night watching your phone screen live on the off chance you'll key in your seed phrase. But of course, you know best, I'm just an expert in this field what would I know?

No integration. Trust is not based on the app per se. The wallet doesn’t rely on the app. It relies on the blockchain to function. The app is 100% open source and code available on GitHub for anyone to re create.

@@cyberscrilla Trust has to to do with the app as well (Metamask had issues with data sharing with US gvt, and Ledger Live is required for a firmware update that led to LEdger Recovery) I hear your point with the blockchain, but you need an IU to communicate with the blockchain. Tangem is not btc optimized, but crypto enthousiast. Good video

Can someone help me- I think I made an error when I created my new Tangem 2.0 wallet on the app. I still have the 1.0 wallet on it. I pressed create new wallet and now I can't use the Tangem 1.0 wallet. (did I erase the old 1.0 wallet by doing so?). I can't access it. When I scan the old card it just saids this wallet is saved but it can't be displayed. I still have funds there to be transferred to the 2.0 wallet. Did I lose the funds? What can I do? Is there a way to remove the 2.0 Wallet and hopefully the wallet 1.0 will show on display?

And... keys are vital arnt they as if Tangem went bust, how else would you move the funds ? Also can you import from Tangem to Trezor and Ledger to Tangem and so on ? What if it does not support the coins ? Thanks

Keys are vital yes. And yes, you can import 12, 15, 18, and 24 word phrases into Tangem, Ledger, Trezor etc. If the wallet you import into doesn’t support a certain coin, you simply won’t see it displayed and you won’t be able to manage it, but the coins still remain secure. - Alex

You wouldn’t want to do that. Either generate it using the official Tangem app or generate it on another cold wallet and import it into Tangem.

I like to use MetaMask as an example. You can setup multiple accounts for ETH under the same seed phrase. Each account has its own public address and corresponding private key, but managed under the same seed phrase.

That’s the cost of using the blockchain. This is not wallet specific. Every time you transact on the blockchain a fee is incurred regardless of the wallet you’re using No monthly cost

Q: for option 1 - If each of those three cards will truly randomly generate the seed inside the card and the seed phrase never leaves the card , then how its ensured that other two cards will have the same seed generated as the first card? They have to sync somehow i guess - is that done through the app right? 🤔

It’s a very technical process. In simple terms, the key is encrypted so that it cannot be stolen and the user will have full control over the number of copies of the private key that exist. @@anthony8745 Unfortunately there was an issue during packaging. It has since been resolved. But the way Tangem is designed, you could buy a wallet off the street and still be able to confirm its authentic during setup.

For those concerned about malware/spyware during seed phrase generation, shouldn't you then go with option 1 (no seed phrase) and get 3 cards and do your best not to lose them?

That’s wrong and I wonder why no one is talking about it. Even the „no seed phrase“ option sends the seed phrase to your phone to copy it to your recovery cards. The whole „the seed phrase never leaves the card“ thing is a lie.

@@muffinb5446 how is it a lie? The cards don’t send the seed phrase to your phone. The process with the seed phrase is as follows: The seed phrase is generated from 12 words in the app, then it’s converted into a private key which is thereafter imported into the chip of the card, and finally, the seed phrase is deleted from the phone. This process can be verified in GitHub, because the app is open source.

Question for you please. I got all my crypto moved from my exchange to my new Tangem wallet. When it's time to sell, I think I would like to use a different exchange. How would a new exchange, receiving incoming bitcoin from a random wallet, know what the original cost basis was? Is it that they don't...and I am the one who has to prove that when I sell? I'm a bit confused about how that would work. I'm still learning. Thank so much!

An exchange automatically values your cryptocurrency at the current market price when it receives it from your Tangem wallet. You don’t have to do anything

hi...thanks for the video, good. i have a question for you...the 12 seed phrases are anyways a combination of words that are from a repository which tangem must have created at their end and that is what is being used at the time of generating a wallet...is this not a risk here? my actual question is that, can't we create our own 12 word seed phrase which is much secured to use, does tangem wallet allow this to be managed by users...makes sense? thanks

That is incorrect. Practically all crypto wallets use words from the BIP39 wordlist (a pre-defined list of 2048 words). It is not a risk. You could buy your own true random number generator and create a seed phrase that way. But the words come from the same list.

Hi, I'm new to crypto and I recently got my tangem wallet. I imported the seed phrase from coinbase wallet. What's confusing to me is, now I see my tokens in both wallets... My intention was to move my crypto away from the exchanges and hot wallets to my cold wallet (tangem). What am I missing? Thanks for your help!

A wallet doesn’t store crypto. Crypto is stored on the blockchain. The point of a cold wallet is to keep your private key offline It’s pointless to import a software wallet seed phrase into a cold wallet It would be best to create a new wallet and seed phrase using Tangem, then actually transfer your tokens to the new wallet address

Hi, thanks for the indepth review! Question: If I store my backup Tangem card in a secure place. Say I pass away, are both Tangem cards protected by the same password/bimetric data? Will my relatives (with acces to this secure place) have access to my funds without them knowing the password for my day to day Tangem card? Or can I set up different password for each card? For example use biometric on my day to day card. Put backup card in secure place like vault and give password of this card to a relative who could only acces the vault when I die? If anyone has the answer please feel free to share thanks a lot!! :)

Thanks for watching! You can you can set different access codes on each card by going to "Settings", "Card settings" and then "Change access code". This way each card can have its own unique access code and can only be used by someone who knows the code.

What happens if the tangem company goes under like ftx, and the app isn't operational. How would you get your crypto off?

A couple things here: Tangem isn’t a centralized exchange (like ftx) The wallet doesn’t rely on Tangem severs to function, it relies on the blockchains. Even if they go out of business and the app ceases to exist, it can be re-created because the code is publicly available on GitHub. Lastly, assuming you generate a seed phrase, you can import it into any wallet to access your funds (not just Tangem) - Alex

I installed the XRP ledger on my tangem app and it took 10 coins on a reserve account that i was not aware of. How do i delete this xrp ledger as its on a xrp scan? but its on the tangem app? Theres no place for me to delete on this xrp scan? Confused.

@@cyberscrilla You provided the help center which I used. We learned that by using the XRP ledger/XRP scan it takes 10 tokens no refundable for fees. We thought it was a reserve account but they just reserve it showing we are using the ledger. It would of been better if they let people know that first off. We read that if you delete the ledger you would be able to regain 8 of the tokens, but we couldn't find out how you could delete as an option. It recommends you go to a xrp toolkit but we couldn't find it anywhere. The help center told us no. I was just curious if any of your followers had the same experience. BTW i mentioned how knowledgeable you are and you've helped us with your videos. My husband and I are dedicated subscribers

That’s not the 2.0 version. That’s the first gen wallet. The only differences are the look, and you cant generate or import a seed phrase with the first gen. - Alex

Thanks for the great information! I have started transferring BTC from my two exchanges to my Tangem wallet. It’s frustrating that they limit the amount you can transfer every 24 hours. Question: while the amount that can be transferred FROM the exchanges to the wallet is limited per day, how does it work in the reverse? When it’s time to transfer BTC from my Tangem wallet to an exchange to sell, can I move it all…or will the amount be limited again? Thanks so much!

Thanks for the great reply. Let me clarify my question a bit… Let’s say I want to move $100k in Bitcoin from my exchange to my Tandem wallet. I see that I am only allowed do that in small amounts (like $5000) every 24 hours. So, after 20 days of moving, it’s all now safely stored in my Tangem wallet. If in a year from now I want to move it all back to an exchange to sell it, can I transfer it FROM my Tangem wallet TO the exchange in one single transfer…or does the Tangem wallet have 24 transfer limits as well? I’m guessing (hoping) that Tangem does not impose those same limits. Thank so much!

Tangem does not have those limits. No self custodial wallet does. But what I’m saying is the exchange will still enforce withdrawal limits once received. So if you send $100k BTC to an exchange, depending on the exchange, you might not be able to withdrawal it all into your bank account in a single day/month

Nice video... Thanks for that.. Just wanted to know that Tangem generates 12 word phrase when creating your wallet, would not a 24 word phrase be better. What are your views, am I missing something.. Or is 12 word just as good as 24 words..?

Most people prefer a 24 word phrase because it’s longer. But the odds of guessing a 12 word phrase are 1 in a decillion (1 with 33 zeros after it) basically impossible. The odds of getting striked by lightning every day of your life, multiple times per day, is greater than someone guessing your 12 word phrase. - Alex

Of course, sorry this one slipped by me. 1: Yes, if you are using the seed phrase method 2 cards is enough. Just keep that seed phrase SAFE!. Then you can access your crypto using any cold wallet. 2: Tangem is constantly adding new tokens. You can reach out to them and request them even. So yes, I think support will come. I feel that you if have three cards and you miss placed or lose three cards, then you shouldn’t be in crypto. This is way better than seed phrase which could can be stolen. And tangem still doesn’t offer multiple addresses per token.

Why not? It wouldn’t be affected by floods, earthquakes, EMPs, electrostatic discharge, etc. If was caught in a house fire it wouldn’t last. But it can handle extreme temperatures and being tossed around no problem. Trust wallet isn’t a cold wallet so there’s no comparison here. You can use Tangem similar to how you use trust wallet. As long has you have your seed phrase, even if your Tangem wallet is destroyed, you can still access your funds using a new wallet and your seed phrase. - Alex

When trying to create a wallet using the seed phrase option and in airplane mode, aren’t you getting a “Couldn’t load the card’s certificate” error? The only way I get past this is to turn off airplane mode.

@@cyberscrilla I tried again, but I run into the same issue. I can generate the seed phrase in airplane mode, but when I push the “Create wallet” button then I get the error message. Did you actually create a wallet with the seed phrase or just created the seed phrase? Also, are you sure no internet connectivity exists in airplane mode? I ask because one can be in airplane mode, but still have a wifi connection, at least on iOS they can. Are you using iOS or Android?

@@cyberscrilla Here were my steps: 1. Connected to the network 2. Scanned the card 3. Selected “Other options” 4. Turned on airplane mode 5. Selected “Generate seed phrase” 6. Seed phrase appeared 7. Selected “Continue” 8. Provided words 2, 7, and 11 for phrase check 9. Selected “Create wallet” 10. Scanned card 11. Received the error that the card’s certificate could not be loaded 12. Tried scanning card again after selecting “Create wallet” and got the same error 13. Turned off airplane mode then scanned the card again after “Create wallet” and no error

I just received the tangem cards I ordered from your discount but when I scan the card it just says Online atteststion failed of the card cannot be performed. You can continue at your own risk or try again later. Do I need to have Wi-Fi on? I thought you are supposed to turn it off and use airplane mode

Yes, that’s the case with any cold wallet. You can’t use one without the internet. The important thing is that the private key is stored on the secure element chip in the card. That’s why it’s a “cold wallet”.

I notice you mention it can but if we have a ledger or trezor for example, it must be signed on the device so I am assuming that cannot be attacked ? @@najhussain9498 thank you! And which wallets are you referring to? There’s a lot of them. Tangem is #1 for me because it’s secure and SO SIMPLE to use. Followed by Trezor and Keystone. I wallet can’t be “tampered” with simply by connecting it to the internet, but if you signed a malicious link for example, any wallet could be compromised. As for Tangem, you must have the physical card to initiate and verify a transaction. Tapping the card to your phone is the “signature” you’re referring to.

hey, the one thing that confuses me with this is, what happens if someone finds your card? they cant get in because it has a passcode? or what if you forget the passcode?

Exactly. If you lose one card, no one can access it. The access code can only be set if a backup is created. For cards without a backup, you cannot set an access code because if you lose the access code, you will lose access to the wallet. If you forget the access code on a card with a backup, you can reset the code on that card with the help of a second card from the backup.

Mmm. Not exactly. You can generate the seed phrase without internet, but you need it for the step right after which activates the cards. And it would be pointless to reset the phone after you already generate the seed phrase as it’s not stored anywhere on your phone/app Also, factory reset does NOT guarantee removal of malware if you had it on your phone. It would depend on the type of malware

Are you talking about the seed phrase? If so, you have to create it when you initially set up the wallet. Basically, you have to choose 1 of 3 methods. There’s no going back after your activate the wallet. Unless you reset the cards to factory settings. - Alex

@@suzuky78 If you have the technical knowledge, you can use something like Ian Coleman’s BIP39 tool and some dice, on a secure operating system like Tails, to securely create the mnemonic phrase. It’s not hard, but a bit involved to get the tools and burn the Tails OS to a USB stick. However, the end result is a 256-bit 24-word mnemonic phrase (unlike the 128-bit 12-word phrase Tangem produces), which you know was definitely securely randomly generated. This is the approach I prefer.

Yes and no; check the comment thread I started and look at Alex’s responses. He details the steps he used, but which, unfortunately, requires turning off airplane mode immediately prior to wallet creation in order to work. To me, I feel this could be a potential vulnerability, as I would prefer that wallet creation be allowed while still in airplane mode. However, if you leave airplane mode on while creating the wallet then you’ll get a certificate loading error.

@@F16_viper_pilot the main risk is someone seeing your seed phrase while it’s displayed on screen. The method I provide effectively eliminates that risk. There’s no concerns of having to activate the card with airplane mode off.

@@cyberscrilla How is the notion of someone seeing your seed phrase on the screen affected by whether you’re in airplane mode or not? If it’s a concern regarding malware, then I would argue that such malware is not using the camera and the issue is the seed phrase being in memory not that it’s visible on the screen. That being said, the seed phrase will persist in memory at least until the private key is sent to the card, thus a potential target for malware, regardless of whether the seed phrase is visible on the screen. I think perhaps your concern is regarding the camera picking up the seed phrase from something like a bathroom mirror, while my concern is more generic to include potential malware too.

There’s a video where someone blowtorches the card. It did melt it a bit, but it still worked. My advice: don’t leave your hardware wallet in a 122 degree car.

@@cyberscrilla Yeah the problem is people who live in the southwest that's about seven or eight states even on the East Coast there's some states that get real hot like Florida. So if your car is even 95 the interior temperatures probably 130 to 150. Just saying sometimes people leave stuff in their car and think it's fine I don't think this card is good and extreme conditions.

@@BasicBeachCommunity1 I wouldn’t be to worried about it. I’m positive it’d be fine if left in a hot car. Like I said, it still works after being blowtorched. Also, you get 2-3 cards with Tangem so even if one is destroyed you always have backups. And that’s the case for anything you keep in your car. Phones, hardware wallets, etc. Tangem doesn’t have any hardware you have to worry about. It’s a chip and an antenna. Whereas a wallet with a screen and user interface would easily be ruined in extreme temps.

I watched your video. First off I want to say I’m sorry you got scammed. But what happened is NOT Tangem’s fault. It’s known that not all tokens can be swapped on Tangem (or most any wallet for that matter) No big deal. Transferring to an exchange, using a DEX, or transferring to another wallet that can effectively swap your tokens was the correct advice. This is what I do. But unfortunately it sounds like you sent your coins to a scammer. Take this as a lesson learned. I hope you didn’t lose too much. Don’t trust anyone. Do the research yourself.
