This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Brene Brown, in her famous TED Talk, says, “Connection is why we’re here. It’s what gives purpose and meaning to our lives. The ability to feel connected is neurobiologically how we’re wired.” Sarah describes Argentine tango as the most beautiful and dynamic expression of connection she has ever known and dancing it can be a profound experience. She finds the nuances of this highly evolved social art form as a rich metaphor for how we connect to partners in life.
After graduating summa cum laude with a BA in Finance from the University of Connecticut, Sarah spent eight years in Boston's competitive finance and investment industry, becoming the youngest portfolio manager at her firm. At 29, she realized she had achieved all of her professional goals but that she wasn't happy, and that her soul was missing from her life. She left her career and home and traveled the world dancing tango for 18 months, going where her connections led her. She then settled in New York’s Hudson Valley and now consults as a CFO to small businesses and startups. She also gives talks and workshops on connection: www.tangolia.org.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
