Tank was a collegiate wrestler with a degree who was branded as a ‘street fighter’. In fact, he was well-educated, lol
@TheRoadDawg
@TheRoadDawg 8 ай бұрын
When he talked about jumping out of cars and fighting, he took me back to my teen age years. In the late 70s and 80s, I recall getting in many street fights by just getting “stared at” by dudes in other cars. Something about getting stared at back then was a challenge to fight. Even at the midnight movies once, me and a friend jumped into the car windows of a car that shit water guns at the crowd. I’m not sure if I’m a warrior, but I sure tried to act like one. I really loved to fight back then.
@Aaron-rc4lp

How many fights did you get into and how many of em did you end up losing. Be honest losing a fight doesn't mean your not tough or not a warrior.
@TheRoadDawg
@TheRoadDawg 5 ай бұрын
@@Aaron-rc4lp I was pretty successful overall, maybe 70/30 (I had to really think on it a bit), maybe 80/20. I don’t recall losing even that much, so many of those are neutrals. I grew up as the only “white boy” in the hood, even though I’m mixed, so I learned to play ball, break-dance, and fight very young. I had a pretty good rep as a scrapper, but I was also smart enough to stay away from the Real Dudes. Playing both ways in football and wrestling certainly helped me not be afraid of contact, which is half the battle.

That's typical of true badasses. They never feel compelled to speak on their ability to hurt ppl. No need when everyone can tell just by looking at them. Also it becomes inconvenient when folks hear someone in the bar is a bonafide killer because 9 times out of ten, some jackass will inevitably stagger over to test their mettle against him.

Tank's book Bar Brawler is great. I'm reading it right now and really enjoying it. There's a fight nearly every chapter and it's not often I find myself laughing out loud at the events that are unfolding, as I'm reading a book. He was a rough dude and one of the last people you wanted to get into a fight with at a bar or on the street. The only chance you'd have is to be very strong and tough yourself and to understand you had to fight and/or wrestle as hard as you could from the get-go or you'd be overwhelmed. The fight with John Mantua is a perfect example of what you'd face fighting a young Tank Abbott who was bench pressing 600 lbs back then. He would attempt to either knock you out by swinging viciously hard or take you down and "run the pipe", which is to say, straddle you, then hit with hammer-fists until you were dazed. Then he'd grab your head with both hands and bash it into the ground until you were unconscious. His fights with the pro-football player or with the guy harassing he and his buddy at a drive- thru are worth the price of admission.
