This short film was made near Narrow Water, at the entrance to Carlingford Lough, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Special Scientific Interest, between Counties Down and Louth.
Shot in an afternoon in April 2022, the film takes viewers on a 'road less travelled' and deemed inaccessible by the Environmental Crime Unit.
The footage follows environmental campaigners, Colum Sands (off camera) and Shay O'Dalaigh accompanying Councillor Patrick Brown as he becomes the first politician to accept an invitation to break the silence on a case of corporate environmental vandalism affecting two jurisdictions.
Ironically, many of his observations are informed from the vantage point offered by an unauthorised dump ("The Grassy Knoll") which has been raised to hide a 3200 tonne, 1 km long CO2 installation within 5 metres of workplaces along the Mourne Coastal Route. His words are supported by additional footage, documents and photographs collected by environmental researchers from around the shores of Carlingford Lough over the past ten years.
The film ends without credits but with the names and faces of the other 11 MLA South candidates standing for the NI Assembly Elections in May 2022.
It is our hope that this film may encourage visits and comments from those candidates as well as other politicians and decision -makers, including the CEO of Warrenpoint Harbour Authority. We offer all of them our encouragement to support the communities and biodiversity of this and every other area. We would be glad to assist or advise any of them in sharing their views in this regard through the making of short films like this one.
