TaoTao 50cc Scooter Keeps Blowing Fuse Fix

This is my new 2018 TaoTao 50cc scooter I bought off of Amazon. I had been having problems with the fuse by the battery blowing, and the other night saw my taillight wasn't lighting up with the brake lever. Upon inspection I found a screw was screwed into a bundle of wires grounding out to the frame of the scooter. This is why is very important to do a full inspection when you get one of these cheaper scooters to avoid headaches later on! Hope this video helps some people having similar problems.

Same thing happen to my 2016 tao tao 50, Except it was the screw on the left back battery cover that was protruding to far inside the battery box and grounding out the battery cable causing the fuse to blow. Re-routed cables and also bought shorter screw. Seems to be always something with these small scooters. Good find on your part though.Good job

Thank you. I have the same model. Pony 50. Great ride but does need a little diligence. I have to check my wires. I found this by searching scooter keeps blowin fuses. Mine is my only vehicle. All I have to get to work, groceries, etc.

I have a 2014 geely scooter and i took off all switchs I could see them turned the key and started plugging them in and when I got to the kill switch it blew the fuse ?

Thks four your excellent video I have a Piaggio Zip 2T other day I drive and same one stop me and tell me my rear lights is blinking after 2 days all my lights is blown front and rear I’m surprise my fuse don’t blown also when I drive in full throttle same times is cut don’t the speed what you think is my regulator fault thank you help appreciate

Well done process of elimination shortcut , sometimes the invisible symptoms are gawking at your pre determined eyes . Engine idle drop will also lead to the shorting area when turned on , e.g.brake light circuit , headlights ... Or just to many things at once , intermittent faults like a bad earth connection[ black ] hidden under a good connector on top. Lol. Cheers

Inside the tail light where the bulb locked into connector is probably dry-rotted and fell apart causing the positive and negative to touch sometimes had to replace mine

dude same thing happening to me right now. what kind of fuse are you using to replace the one that blows. ive gone through 5 so far and I cant get past this shit its driving me mad.

I just used the same type that was in it, you gotta have a short happening somewhere, these Chinese bikes aren’t exactly built to high standards lol

@@Z3CHYD I know its just strange how my headlights and lights work, I kick started it and it started but died shortly, adjusted idle screw and fuel intake screw to carb, the kill switch doesn't work. I think it's my stator but the damn nut to take the magneto is stripped like a beast. im gonna have to chisel that nut off piece by piece without screwing up the threads on the stem. checked all wires nothing split or touching metal, battery charges at 12.88 . I dont know I just gotta keep at it I guess. I have 3 scooters im tryin to bring back to life.

I have changed the CDI coil and stator still have no spark

Have you checked the little fuse hooked to the battery? That's what would cause mine to not have spark, also I had an orange "performance" coil and it was dead when I got it, cheap aftermarket parts

Yup these cheap Chinese scooters are great if you take your time and look over everything, and have basic mechanical knowledge 👍🏻

Only some states will let you have one without a license

Yes I know that. NC where I was when I got mine didn’t require anything but register it. Back home in PA you just need to have your regular class c drivers license. It varies from state to state
