We fly TAP all the time, leaving for Lisbon next week. This is our 3rd time going to Lisbon. We love it. Last year carry on was only 7 kg I’m so happy they upped it to 10kg. Yay! Hope you guys had a great time in Lisbon. My fav city!!

Once upon a time boyz’ and gals, Trans-Atlantic on narrow bodies were the standard of the day. I have been on many 707, DC-8 from the US to LHR, ORY, MAD in the late 60s to early 70s. Continental re-introduced narrow body service from EWR to Europe in the late 80s.

Pro tip if you fly in business class with any star alliance carrier from EWR just take the shuttle bus to the C gates and use the polaris lounge much better than the lufthansa lounges. You have access to a la carte dining

Thanks for your review. TP gets a bad wrap because when things go bad, they are not good a problem resolution, however, TP is in the top 10 safest carriers in the world (1 deadly crash in 70 years!) and has some of the best trained pilots in the industry. This is what matters. The fact on top of that you still get decent aircrafts, free food and drinks, pillows and blankets on board, make this airline quite a deal despite the increase in prices, something that has affected all carriers in the industry.

What a great report!!! Although I wish you didn't do take-off and landing in fast-mo. The plane looked great and there seems to be plenty of room around the seats. I sometimes think some people's reluctance to flying a longer flight without the extra aisle (that you never even use) is more psychological than anything. I suppose you do feel more enclosed but most of a flight you're in your own little bubble anyway. Also some flights within the USA and Australia aren't much shorter than transatlantic flights.

Oh my... I’ve flown roundtrip to LIS on AirPortugal both from EWR and from JFK last year. I’m surprised they are using a narrow body plane for transatlantic route now. I wonder why? But after watching your video i realize it’s actually not that bad at all. TAP has terrific travel deals to many European destinations with a connection in LIS for under $500 roundtrip sometimes - can’t beat that price I wish some passengers learned basic plane manners and understand the importance of putting their seats upright during the meal service as a courtesy to fellow passenger in the back. I noticed the passenger seated in front of your wife made it uncomfortable 🤨

Ran across your video searching for videos on TAP AIR as I'm also planning a trip from the US to Portugal and they seem to have the best fares but was wondering if it was bad or not. Someone online had mentioned that they are like the Spirit of Portugal (they charge for everything) so I'm not sure if this was true or not for you, but at least it's nice to see that the plane is your typical jet and that economy is pretty much the same as you'd find probably on a bigger airline. I'm sure that you don't get all of the amenities sa you would on say a major carrier like United or Delta, but that's fine (usually I've found the biggest difference to be seat comfort and in-flight snacks when I've flow different airlines -- at least domestically in the US). Obviously ones like Spirit and Frontier do not serve snacks on their flights (at least their flights that are probably under 4 hours, as the l ongest flight I've taken with them has been 2-3 hours) whereas some of the others like Southwest do serve snacks on flights that are 2 hours or longer.

Good to know that you guys found TAP to be a nice airline . Do they also serve Halal food ❓ Before the introduction of wide body aircraft , single aisle narrow body B-707 and B- 720 were the planes we would fly on half way across the globe . Some of the planes even had a Cargo pallet sitting right behind the cockpit , with a narrow passage on the side linking the cockpit to the main passenger cabin .

Seems like a low cost carrier. It might just be Jersey, but i'm never flying over any ocean on a narrowbody again.

TAP is great to fly on ... until there are flight interruptions.

Legroom is good. Better than United. Wow!!! They tell you about what is below. First time I saw this. The desert is not impressive. You can buy this at the supermarket. Very basic that's why you can buy extras. Maybe it's because it's a special meal. I hate those granola bars. Anyway the sandwich is edible and you can buy a muffin. Good to know if I fly TAP from the USA. Neo looks great.

Great detailed video, I do have question regarding which fare class did you select and did you pay for upgraded seats to have more leg room? Do you know what's the pitch of the seat in economy. I am guessing this fare is one tier above basic economy?

Rarely have been so let down by an airline as with TAP. Their groundworkers went on strike and they knew in advance but did not inform us that this would affect flight operations. Then hours before the flight they cancelled it just before I was about to leave for the airport. Trying to reach their hotline was impossible, it was completely down and online they referred me to an online rebooking option. The next flight on offer....5 days later. This was for my summer vacation and fortunately I was going for some time, but imagine you plan to go for a week and are being told bad luck, you have to wait for 5 days to get another flight. Even though EU regulations stipulate that if airlines cancel flights due to strikes they are to offer the next best alternative flight. Despite countless attempts to call their hotline it continued to be down the next day and I was left with no choice but to fly 5 days later. Another insidious schem they deploy to rip you off, if you try to change your seat in the system and you select another one it shows you how much the seat costs. That's fine, however, unlike with all other airlines where you can just cancel or switch back to the original seat that the system selected for you it won't let you. The moment you clicked on another seat the system wouldn't let me select my old seat and it said I owed them 40 Euros. I closed the window and re-connected yet, may new seat selection remained saying I owed 40 euros, without ever pressing the confirmation button. I ignored it but then when checking in they had trouble checking me in and I had to go to the transfer counter in Lisbon to get my ticket printed. All to avoid paying 40 Euros for a seat I never even wanted. Long story short, avoid this dumpster airline if you have alternatives, not only do they not care about passenger rights they also try to rip you off with system gimmicks. I for one will only ever fly with them again if I have no alternative airline flying to the same destination.

I flew an A320 between Lisbon and Madrid on TAP and the seats were absolutely the worst I've ever seen in an aircraft. No leg space, no reclining, no screen and no food. Thankfully it was a short flight. The seats for internationall flights are completely different, it seems.

Im flying TAP Air in may and i am having a hard time finding a carry on that is only 8in wide, most are 9in or more. Was the blue carry on in the video 8in?

I am flying out of Toronto to Lisbon and usually I go to security and check in online with mobile ticket - so no need to meet any TAP staff. They will check the weight of the luggage at the gate and what about Lisbon returning? If you mobile check in, why need to go to the kiosk?

The width of the plane is not the most important measure. The width of the seat is. For my personal experience, recently flew LIS-YYZ in a Air Transat A330. Return flight was a TAP A321 just like this one. The 321 was much more comfortable flight. (To be fair Air Transat is probably the only company that configured an A330 with 9 abreast seating...)

It is the most uncomfortable way to fly across the pond (single Isle)

Airbus A320 family makes this bearable. If it's Boeing B737, it would be uncomfortable. People don't realize A320 is wider than B737... that extra close to 1" extra width per seat does make a difference.

Nothing new or special. It's wider that a 757. Don't the YYZ-LIS a few times. I like it. Not that long of a flight and in terms of comfort, seats are actually wider that on a 9-across 787, or 10-across 777. Do more comfort there. I'm not one to get up and wonder about the plane so I don't care about the single aisle. Besides, smaller plane = less passengers.
