I just found you and watched your video on clasped-weft weaving technique. Marvelous! I loved it :) Now I'm watching a tapestry video. At the bottom of the warp (beginning) you have two "sticks" through the warp and the warp appears to be twisted although I'm not sure what I'm looking at. What are those sticks for and why does the warp look different around each stick? Thank you, Lindy in northern Michigan

Good question Lindy! This is how I separate the warp at the beginning so I'm ready to weave. The sticks are cardboard separators, they come with some looms. I make an up shed, insert a stick, then a down shed and insert the second stick. I beat. Then back to the up shed to start weaving. It helps to bring the warp together without gaps in the work.

Kelly, thank you so much. I've seen this before but never had the vaguest idea what they were for. I'm thinking using these "sticks" would allow me to not have to weave a couple of inches of waste yarn at the beginning. ????

Yes, just personal preference :) For some reason, it bothers me having threads at the front!

What are you using for warp on rigid heddle tapestry weaving?

Hello, Could you please tell me what "brand name" or type of loom it is you're working on? It seems to make weaving so much simpler with "separating" the correct warp yarn all across your piece. Each time you "shift" the (heddle?) tool, I try to figure out how it works when you switch back and forth between the UP SHED and DOWN SHED, but, can't seem to figure it out.

The loom is an Ashford 24" rigid heddle (the link is in the description). The way the up and down sheds work is in the threading. Before weaving, you thread in both the slots and the holes. You lift the heddle up and the hole threads are lifted. Place the heddle down and the slot threads are lifted.

How do you tidy up the loose threads hanging at the sides please?

Usually I weave them into the next shed so that it stays tidy as I weave 😊
