Me Too! Your Tapestry weaving is exquisite. You have a gift! I've been a Handweaver since the 1980's, but had a block of illness that took me away from it for about 10 years. Now I'm getting everything up and ready for weaving Tartans, Coverlets, Fabric, Rugs, but have become absolutely fascinated with weaving Tapestry, and am determined to do so. Would love to see a video of how you began in weaving Tapestry. Have you worked on other types of looms! And could you tell me the content of the fiber used in your weft? Maybe I just missed it...

Hello Anne, sorry for the delay. I am using a double half hitch knot for each dot of colour then moving to the next warp thread and repeating. I work from left to right building up each area and for this piece the weft bundle was 6 or 7 mixed embroidery threads. Hope that helps. Robb

Hello Nancy, thanks for the posting. Actually many tapestry weavers photograph, paint or otherwise create their own designs and use these as a 'cartoon' or design to follow in weaving their piece. Check out the many good books on tapestry weaving for design ideas. Cheers, Robb

Hi Deborah, For the video piece I am using the half hitch knot - twice - that is a double half hitch knot on each warp and then moving to the next warp moving from left to right. As a left hander I found that easier then right to left. Hope that helps with your inquiry. Robb

Is tapestry a weave (over under, over under, repeat) or is it knotting a thread (or cluster of thread) between two lengths of linen? If it is the knotting, I’m most interested in how you accomplish it. The only knot I can fathom is mostly akin to the Persian knot used in fine rug making.

I'm learnt fashion and textile design. I really wanna learn this amazing technique and maybe incorporate it into my garments!

The question regarding the weft bundles in use are 6 or 7 embroidery threads. Since completing this piece I knot now in both directions - from left to right and right to left. Hope that helps - Robb
