That dream was never for Melinda. Y'all saying she was mad for no reason bc you are all looking at the 10 mill. Look at the whole picture. She spent 20 years of her life catering to this man's dream. He did not focus on anything but fulfilling his own dreams. He barely worked, while she had 2 jobs. He was not affectionate. He did not consider what would make her happy in her own reality. He thought a pretty ring, a boat named "Mrs. Gayle", and a glamorous apartment would make her happy, but it's actually what HE wanted. Had this truly been for her, he wouldn't of been insensitive and gave it away to another woman. He had been promising HER this for 20 years. Yes he gave her 10 mill, which was nice. But try getting back 20 years of your life and your ability to have children. The very woman he cheated with in the beginning, and lead to her raging and losing her ability to have kids, was the same woman who got everything she had put in the years and tears for even a new baby on the way. Yes, she got everything back, but how do you erase 20 years of built up emotions and disappointment.

She was by his side. She fought for him for 20 years. That is a very long time. I think she was just tired and wanted him to fight for her for once. It was a one sided relationship wherHe she made all the sacrifices and investments in. After 20 years of marriage, he should have fought for her. He knew she loved him, he could see the change in her from all that he put her through. He was selfish. Not in a monetary way, but in an emotional, needs and wants way. He was just focused on his dream and not the toll it was taking on their marriage. She only listened to her family at the end, because she was weak and tired. If you are in an emotionally draining relationship eventually you get tired enough where your walls come down and you get tired of pushing and fighting to stay with someone who is only with you for convenience. He was worried not about love, but companionship. He moved on with that female quickly and still gave her what HE wanted her to have. None of those things were either one of the women ideas. That was HIS fantasy. Yes, Melinda should have sought help and built her strength back, but he is just as at fault. They had absolutely no communication. Had he been honest with her and told her about his ex working at same facility he was applying for and having coffee to discuss potential employment, I feel it would of been less of a shock about that wallet. Melinda was a low point. Her reality, stemmed from that fantasy he had programmed in her head for all those years. After he didn't fight and gave her the divorce, she felt betrayed.

Gave her the divorce? No, she requested it to begin with. He asked her twice to reconsider and she told him no. Sometimes when you hurt someone so much, the right thing to do is let them go. He did right be her with the $10 million despite not legally owing her. Women do this thing were no means no and no means yes. Men don't speak that language and then get upset when you want me to know your language. He fought for her when she told him to get out in front of her family. Also when they were getting a divorce, he asked again. You expect him to keep asking and asking?

What I love about this movie is that it's not a black and white situation. Melinda loved Robert, spent her entire inheritance and worked two jobs to support both of them. All while Robert worked his dream. She had Borderline personality disorder, but I think Robert failed her 10 million dollars was nothing, for him to live the life he promised her with the same women he cheated on. Most importantly Robert loved the dream more than Melinda, I think she just needed him to be there for her and help her a little, but he projected his dream on her and made her miserable. Yet she is not justified to have thought it was her boat when she left him... At the end of the day it ain't a black and white situation, they all made mistakes, melinda and her sisters thinking he cheated and all... This is the most realistic movie I have watched.

No one really understands until they are in that situation.! But this character Melinda definitely lost her mind. She didn’t need to do all that and I feel like at some point she completely lost herself. When your so hurt and in a dark place I feel like the devil takes the wheel. In her case she even looked like she was possessed. Especially the scene where she put the red vale on the lamp and was dancing around and drinking it looked like she was worshiping something evil. I can definitely relate with this character cause I almost fell into that dark place and only Jesus got me out of that situation! Prayers and healing was definitely needed. Sometimes you just have to leave things to a higher Power and let Jesus fix it.

Melinda was right Robert didn't put up a fight when he was being divorced. For 20 years he didn't give up on his dream, he didn't give up on Prescott, kept sending videos and letters. but when he was being divorced he just gave in. he would at least be respectful of Melinda and not do for Diane the same things that he had promised to Melinda. He would've done different things for her, taken her to different places... Besides, you cannot just easily forget a person u've loved and been with for over 2 decades. you cannot just move on suddenly...it takes some time And... My fellow men, its dangerous to depend on a woman however rich she might be.

Robert had a dream he was dedicated in fulfilling BEFORE he met and married Melinda. The marriage took a toll on them both but more on Melinda. Because she gave everything she had to Robert for the dream and regardless of the money and the house that Robert gave back, she was crushed mentally and emotionally, and it never was about money for Melinda. The error for Robert and most men in dream chasing is that they fail to recognize the effect it has on their lovers. The cheating again thing broke the chain for Melinda lol (especially it being the same woman) and Robert saw his wife didn’t believe in him anymore but after the success if Robert tied the knot with her again, everything would’ve been refunded because the shit she felt would’ve been worth it in the end and that would have been true love as well on Robert’s part unfortunately it didn’t end that way and her mental state sunk dramatically and literally. I don’t think the lady Rob ended up with in the end could’ve put up with what Melinda dealt with. All Melinda got was the darkside of the dream. The whole thing is extremely complicated, I don’t think Melinda or Robert, is wrong or right in this.

How can people blame Melinda! Robert literally sacrificed the only way to help keep there mothers house, just to deny Prescott's offer..on top of that the wallet with the other woman's face was in the car. It's like I get it...she made him leave, but it was just too too much at that point, only a fool would have continued to deal with Robert..no help at all, he just made things worst and worst and worst, now that he finally hit, it's given to someone else. If Robert was so passionately doing this for Melinda, just as driven as he was to make the battery hit, he would have been just as passionate to give it all to Melinda. And you know how passionate he can be because he waited 20 years to get his shit in Prescott office.

I felt so bad for her : focus on your life if he wants to be with you he should work on his own and come and marry you as he did with the second wife. The first wife are always killing their dreams for a man - hmmmmm. We have a nice exemple as Barack and his wife but those cases are so rare.

L❤VE Taraji's intensity in everything! Lyriq played it well. Enjoyed that the characters were flawed. They had strengths and all erred. You could see why Melinda's pain went so deep - because she still loved him and lost who she was. Under normal circumstances at the end, healthiest choice would've been to let go when he paid her back. But her demons ran too deep without help and spiritual guidance all those years ago. Masterful soundtrack, gripping story and layered plot though the wallet was the weakest part of the structure.

Listen to all these people in the comments talking about how Melinda should have not divorced him and done excetera excetera. If he really didn't do anything he would have fought a little bit harder. He meets up with his old flame and in a matter of months they're married and living the life he originally wanted to live with his wife who supported him for decades. Let's not forget that Melinda already thought he was cheating because they were not having sex. So you live at home with your man, he doesn't have a job, you work two jobs and you all aren't having sex.... mmmmm ok. I feel like he shouldn't have gotten back with Melinda the first time because he only felt bad about the accident. Thats really why he stayed. He wasnt calling her after the car she bought and the money she gave him. She should have left him and his battery alone then. And after he got the money the first thing she did was want to go back to her man. But the first thing he did was enjoy it with his new bitch. Im sure it wasnt just money issues but the runaround and humiliation she faced. She was tired and thought he cheated with the same woman! Clearly she was expecting him to call when she kicked him and lost the house but he didnt bother to check on her. Thats that hurt. She was still waiting....she said so. She physically moved on. He did in every way.

Really, Malinda did for Robert what Prescott offered. She financed his prototype for the battery plus more. Prescott initially wanted to give him $800,000.00 for the battery. Melinda gave him $350,000.00, food, shelter, plus marital and emotional benefits. I think she should have gotten half of everything that the battery would have financially generated, because if it weren't for her help, he wouldn't have had the time to fully devote himself to his passion to build the battery. Maybe she wouldn't have been so angry about the sisters finding the wallet if there wasn't the history of him cheating with Diana before. There are a lot of intricate layers to the craziness in this movie. Malinda wasn't the only character that wasn't right in this movie. She was the only one that went off the deep end. Robert knew she was emotionally fragile when he first met her. And he used that to manipulate her from the beginning of the relationship. It's too bad Malinda couldn't see it and make the necessary adjustments in her life.

The dream was definitely for Melinda. I totally agree that Melinda sacrificed herself and in many ways allowed herself to pour out way more than she should have. The cheating accusation was a way pit for her. You have to remember she had moved on with someone else and when Robert came to see her with the check and to apologize, she reiterated that they were never getting back together. She didn't change her mind until he told her that his battery hit. I will say that both were to blame in this. They both were clearly too young to get married. He hadn't been taught how to be a man and a responsible adult and Melinda hadn't been taught how to think for herself and her anger issues were never addressed in the beginning. You have to dysfunctions and try to make it work and you have a recipe for disaster. He wasn't a bad guy, he was just not a good husband and it showed by how he drained her without thought and she allowed it. I do believe that the minute he saw that she wanted to get back together he should have tried to reconcile especially after that whole speech about how she loved him and no other woman would have done so and how he loves her and always will. We also have to note that Melinda didn't want him back until she found out he was rich but I can understand that. She didn't want to struggle anymore with him. She didn't have anymore to give because she gave too much and he freely took it.

I think it was ok for her to act out like that because he didn't fight for her. She was hurt and didn't think ot through which led to her death. I feel that it is unfair to sacrifice everything for someone for years even your parents house and that moment when you had enough he doesn't fight to get you back instead, he gives all the things he promised you to another person. Money can't heal a heart break like that.

don't stay in struggle with a man for too long. It's one thing to help build a man who is honest and honorable and giving provision, it's another thing to be USED by a man. HONORABLE is not giving a woman's 20 years to someone who didn't work for it. If anything, Diana could have gotten a few million as commission for referral and not the other way round

I think Melinda felt betrayal. Sure, Robert seemed to be a loser at times. Sure, he was a mess. BUT that was HER loser HER mess. Its a mindset like "Sure, its a pile of shit, but that's MY pile of shit. When it came to the success of the battery he should have split EVERYTHING 50 50. Idc about the new wife or the baby, he still had plenty of money to support them. 20 yrs is a long time. Its not all about the money, its the heartache the disappointment the yrs of struggle. That counts too. Ok, she divorced him, she deserves half of what their life together manifested.

that dream was not for Melinda. That dream was for him and his ego. By going away and give everything he promised Melinda to another woman, a woman he cheated on her with at that proves, he just wanted o do the things he knewwwww would stroke his ego when he became rich. He just had to find the right woman I guess to replace Melinda - Melinda was not easily replaceable, but finding a woman that would fit his picture was easy...

He promised all those things to his wife and he delivered. It was Melinda who chose not to be his wife, yet he still gave her the means to have all those things just not with him. He cheated on her and she tried to kill him along with an innocent woman who had no idea she even existed at the time. I think we can call it even. Yet for all his narcissism she wanted him back when he had money. Guess that makes her a gold digger.

My take away is that if someone is the type of person who lives for revenge, they'll only end up hurting and killing themselves. The whole movie, she destroyed her chance at having children permanantly. Allowed her homegirls to run her life for her. Destroyed her chances at staying with the man she was supposed to marry to death did them part. And then she killed herself at the end of the movie.

Basically in my opinion in the end it was a big misunderstanding. She thought he cheating again and going to meet her. He just offered a lady a ride and she left a wallet. Remember early he says when Prescott calls you, get there. He got to go. Afterwards she lost her mind

I enjoyed the movie but as time passes, I find it odd how a man can write about how black women are and handle negativity. Melinda was wrong - I have never wanted to crash my own vehicle into a man’s RV. Once he repaid her all of that money, she should’ve stopped but that jealousy was too strong.

I don’t know who the heck you all talking to or about…. Let me tell you something about Acrimony… It doesn’t matter if there is no money involved, or millions like we all saw in this movie. When a man and a woman go through hell and back like Melinda and Robert did, Melinda is in for love because he promised her FOREVER…. Y’all don’t understand the meaning of that word? Robert took advantage of Melinda and lied to her all through the years until the battery hit. Melindas sisters kept talking so negatively about Robert since the day they met… a woman who believes in falling in love and believes in FOREVER gets hurt easily and the more others talk trash, the more angry we get. Robert should of fell off the boat when Melinda fell. He should of died trying to save Melinda but failed. He promised FOREVER so they should of died together.
@426mak

What film have you been watching? It was Melinda who wanted a divorce not Robert. He practically begged her not to leave. He promised everything to his wife and he delivered, it was Melinda who chose not to be his wife. Hense it was her who broke the FOREVER promise, not him.
