Batch No. is always important to put on a product. If you miss some ingredient incidentally in batch. You can recall that batch. It ensures quality consistent product for repeat costumer.

I was wondering how you keep track of your products in the event you needed to do a recall? Say a supplier notified you of their contaminated product, how would you handle that?? Do you use any batch or SKU numbers to track your products or just put an expiration date & call it good? I guess if you had contact info for your customers you could send out a mass email to notify them... I'm getting a liability ins. quote & there are questions about production & batch tracking, recalls etc...

Hello Tara Lee! Really appreciate the business information. Thank you! Question. Making a small batch candle line. How many products would you suggest for 9 oz. candle jars? Also interested in diy CLEAR labels instead of paper, what's your thoughts? Lastly. Not comfortable with posting on social media at all. Any other budget friendly suggestions? I love this video. Where do you get your containers? I have my own ALL NATURAL BODY AND HAIR PRODUCTS AND ALSO STARTING A MATTE AND CREAMY LIPGLOSS LINE. I’m having a hard time finding containers for my body cream and hair creams.

Hi Tara! Thanks for all your info. Question: if you dont want to print different labels all the time, how do you put on the expire date on a product then? Personelly, I do print out different labels per batch. I do it like this: I have a standard label disign per product and then just chance the batch number and expiry date before printing. I use de softwear from Avery for this.

im so happy I found your channel again after several years!! you are IT. also can I make a suggestion? are you planning to make an eco cream/hair lotion ect anytime soon?? I'm super allergic to chemicals so after you posted that you brought olivem and Leucidal I brought it that same day & i've been so anxious for a simple recipe. I'm so glad you enjoy my channel! :) I have made some creams with ecocert emulsifiers. I use Ritamulse SCG from time to time in creams which ritamulse is ecocert approved just like olivem 1,000 here is an eye cream I have made with ecocert ingredients - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i-CFiMaLstynh3U.html and here is a lightweight moisturizer with ecocert ingredients (except for the penstia powder, but you can just remove that) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kM9yfq-A29Xapqc.html

TaraLee thanks for your reply! But I watched those and it’s too many ingredients also I just don’t have access to all those ingredients. I’m willing to pay you if I have to but I’m desperate. I’d love if you could make a BASIC lotion with just *water, oil, mango butter, olive m, leucidal* Olivem keeps soaping on me with a heavy white cast (won’t absorb) and I need your help 😞😞

Great video! I've never done batch numbers, but I do write down the trial number of each of product and the results with a date when formulating or tweaking a previous trial of that product. I hope that makes sense lol.

You're such a good guide to starting a business! I just started a candle business and it's going well so far, I'm still finding it difficult to calculate costs and profit however your videos do help a lot! I live in Malta and struggle a lot with shipping my stock as shipping costs more than the item itself!

I'm so glad my videos have been able to help you! & I bet it is so much fun to make candle, my mom use to do that and she made the cutest candle. Calculating costs is very difficult at first, but once you get a process down, it's like simple math. I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling with shipping cost, I hope you are able to find a cheaper way to ship if possible. best of luck with your business!

awwh thank you! I use mostly my rose cream. I'll use my Luna cream from time to time at night. & also I will switch to different moisturizers if I am testing something out. for the most part I use my rose cream during the day and luna cream at night.

For batch numbers, you can get stamps or stickers. I’m trying to start my own business (I can’t use most products so I’ve had to make more own and I thought why not sell as well), and I’ve been stuck on batch numbers, and found that redoing labels would be stupid.... BUT if you look, big companies just PRINT onto their labels from a big machine, just like a stamp would look for small businesses. Just have to make sure you have room. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Probably not helpful since I know you just said you really don’t mind not having it, but just in case you ever thought to have it later on and you didn’t want to fork out hundreds to thousands for the mega machine. 😂

That’s a genius idea! I would love to have batch numbers, but never thought of a way to do it. I think the challenge now is to find small enough stickers. Thanks for the genius idea!

FDA requires you to have good manufacturing practice, so it is illegal to not have a batch number

Hi Tara, Great video. I sent you an email today about how I keep track of my soap stock and recipes. The website is called SoapInventory and I created this myself (Im a soap maker but also a database programmer). There is about 3,500 other soap and bath and body makers using my software. Its 100% free to use and keeps track of Inventory, Stock, Recipes, Sales. There is also a diary etc. Once you add all the inventory to a recipe and press "make recipe" it removes the volumes from the inventory and add the final product to the Stock. So everything is up to data automatically.
