My mom made that decision and chose to move across the country to Michigan in her dream house, but she’s missing out on her grandkids growing up and it sucks. She uses the same excuse of “you moved away from me first” because I left california for Idaho, and that I “had my chance” to live near her. She sees us once or twice a year and also put my in therapy so sometimes it sucks she’s not close but occasionally I’m reminded that it’s for the best 😅

I totally agree with keeping the shelves minimalistic for now so you can add over time. I always like to purchase something beautiful for my shelves while on vacation so all my little elements on my shelves have meaning and remind me of a trip! Also- home goods is selling a ton of pottery right now. Some tall pottery with shot ones in front (layering) would look so good on the top shelf.

the new house looks great - I am thinking you need a couple of nice big rugs one in the lounge area that goes partway under the couch and another behind the couch between the couch and breakfast bar- it is not about covering the lovely floor it is about layers and textures to soften the house and make it a home - like you did by going to Target to get house stuff
