HOWNHALL SHOOTING

Жыл бұрын

Episode no4 in our series, TARGETS. In this episode, Simon takes you through a soft approach on finding your way with looping clays. Creating a "one start for all" type plan, to try and best break-down this sometimes, awkward target. The key message as always is slow, positive practice, ensuring full focus is given to you're individual style and approach.

Having watched a good number of YT shooting videos, I recently discovered Simon O'Leary on here, who I've found to be the single most brilliant descriptor of the sport, with a superbly calm demeanour that deserves multiple watches of the same video to draw full benefit. 'Pushing through treacle'...simple analogy but great. I will remember that forever. More please Simon & thank you so much. 👌

Excellent! As a newbie, I found that I was tricked into thinking I needed to shoot below the clay, when I was actually missing because I was not far enough in front (lead). I started hitting consistently by shooting with moving my hold point closer to the trap, less gun movement, bigger lead and shooting the target before it started dropping.

Thanks Mark, glad you enjoyed our show!! and thank you for the very good question. Personally, I would apply the "Pull-away" for flatter loopers...early mount on, away, then shoot. With steeper loops, I would probably apply the box/ rectangle approach, after seeing a bird, set your hold point, to enable a mount underneath, just before the bird peaks. From there, you'll pull through/ away, creating that bottom left or indeed right shot, depending on the direction of the target!! I hope this makes sense, best of luck with your practice. Very best, Simon.

Great video you’re a natural at communicating tips for shooting on a side point I see your using a beretta I’ve recently bought a SP1 sporter after using Brownings for years wanted to ask what your view is on the silver pigeon Great video 👍👍👍
@hownhallshooting
@hownhallshooting Жыл бұрын
Thanks Gerard, very kind sir!! The SP1 is a lovely robust gun and continues to be incredibly popular. A fabulous all-rounder for the person that wants a one-gun-for-all. I prefer Beretta over Browning etc because of their maneuverability...Beretta is a Ferrari, Browning is a Range Rover... both beautiful in their own right, but handle very differently (although i'd prefer a Rangie to drive!!) Being on the larger side, I suppose I should favour thicker and heavy, but I like the thinner profile of the Beretta and indeed that I can shoot calmly and slowly without much effort/ labour!! Take time to adjust, as it will initially feel different. I wouldn't mind betting though, that once you've made friends, it will serve you well!! Very best, Simon👍👍👍

@@hownhallshooting Thank you Simon as I’ve said I’ve shot Brownings mirokus for years but liked the feeling of the SP1 sporter the only thing I’m a big worried about is I shoot DTL More than sporting But I think once I get used to the beretta it should be all good The Beretta Sporter feels a bit bulkier than the field model Which suits me better thanks for posting a great video And yes I’d like the price of a Ferrari in my bank 🏦 account 😊😊😊😊😊

A very informative and well done video. Very nice camera work on the clays. May I make one suggestion and that is cold you give the distance to the target and what choke and shot size your using.
@hownhallshooting
@hownhallshooting Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind comment Rob and your suggestion is very apt. I will indeed incorporate this into our next filmed episode (we have a couple in the bank) However, just for clarity, on this episode i shot with Hull Comp X 21g 7.5 shot, through 3 quarter chokes on both barrels with a 25yr old Beretta 686S. The distance on the large looper is around 35 yards. Thank you again, very best, Simon.

Would you recommend taking the bird at the top of the curve
@hownhallshooting
@hownhallshooting Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching the show Troy and to answer your question, Firstly, I think its important to be sure where you first "Pick-up" the bird. If for what ever reason you are seeing it late, then yes, mount under the clay just before the peak, and exercise the "Box" approach. If the clay is high right, you are pulling away/ through to low left, obviously apply the opposite for alternative direction. If the loop is flatter, then sometimes an early mount on to the bottom of the clay, and pull-away will do the job! I hope this answers best you question, good luck with your practice!✊✊✊

You say elsewhere you use 21g shells. In the US that’s 3/4oz. Is that a 20 gauge? UK shooting seems really different than here in the US. Over here you’ll never find 3/4oz 12 gauge shells. 7/8oz are rate, 1oz is available and 1 1/8oz is most common.
