Remember, this is their own karate journey. You don’t know where they started. Whether pass or fail it is commendable that they try to test. The people here so harsh with criticisms should look at their own karate. Any respectable karateka with good level would not waste their time trashing other fellow karateka. We all love the same art, respect each other. OSS

Wait. Hold up. Where are the 16yr old or 18yr olds testing for their 4th Dan like they do in TKD?
@isechico11 күн бұрын
NOT in SHOTOKAN, the originator of both TKD and TSD

Are you serious ! Take a look at Rick Hotten and then decide.
@hegstad94 жыл бұрын
Trained with Rick Hotton Sensei several times. Few karate- ka ever even come close to acchieve his level ! He's in a class of his own.

Lets be respectful of this test. It takes a lot of guts, years, thousands of hours and perseverance for this men to get to this point. As a black belt myself, I respect all black belt tests that I see. Much respect goes to all of them.

Where's the kumite? You can't pass a belt test without kumite or at least self defense demo

I think after 5 years as a 3rd dan you should leave and by that very action be awarded 4th dan. And you shouldn't allow anyone to lay a finger on you, whether it be demonstration or whatever. I love karate, I think it's brilliant. But like everything it has its flaws. And one is it's too complicated. I think there's 20 plus katas. Who, in their right mind is going to study 20+ katas? 7 works for me. Which brings me to flaw number 2. It's one size fits all when that doesn't work. What suits one may not, and usually doesn't suit another And flaw 3 is clubs do what they are told and work to a fixed curriculum. And usually charge too much

Understand the JKA and ISKF guidelines for ranking are much more stringent than strip mall dojo. I believe they are the most strict of all. There is no universal standard, which is why I have to laugh at 30 year old "masters".

there is no power and spirit, no energie--it`s look like 3. Kyu

The grey haired sandan has spirit, time is his enemy ,the dark haired sandan hasn't , his kicks were gedan and lower,he wouldn't make 3kyu at the JKA ,I think he's read to many books, no focus no Kime ,and above all no fighting spirit!!, the core of shotokan karate.

The bearded guy did well but the other guy was horrible, ive seen better from 12 year old yellow belts

I saw no black belt test - I saw a gymnastic lesson with karate elements. This is boring. Respect to the two aged guys, I hope they know that this sports Karate without the spirit of a martial art. The fat guy on the right is the best...

No disrespect....this is a Joke. These two chaps would not last 5 seconds in a Real Street fight for sure. My comments are based on training in Japan twice in the early and mid 70's and on The Door at Night Clubs. In a REAL FIGHT when some Fzzkers want to kick your head in ....there is NO YAME.
@dingo8babym203 жыл бұрын
'No disrespect'?? You've illustrated your ignorance, good job. So older folks need not apply; only young supple, athletic types.Got it. The disabled? Women? None of them will last in a street fight either, Cletus. One of Funakoshi's precepts is character development - something you must have missed. True karate takes people from where they start, not to some frat-boi's idealized, Bruce Lee-ish fantasy, but to a place physically, and spiritually that they've never been. But yeah sure, if you don't possess the physicality of a club bouncer, then piss off,Gramps. no disrespect.
@DoomGuy-kf8fv2 жыл бұрын
The bearded guy would prolly be just fine. Other guy I agree. Then again a lot of karate is being watered down in favor of useless point sparring.
@burntrim Жыл бұрын
What would you recommend? They take up Boxing, or Thai Boxing perhaps? Or buy a gun even? Not everybody wants to work on the doors
@jayoly62734 жыл бұрын
Is this reverse age discrimination? These guys really are not that good. For their age? Maybe. But to promote rank based on "pretty good for their age" ? I don't like it. I think most shodans are much better than these guys testing for yodan. Emmmm shouldn;t be like that. Just sayin.
@michide723 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think so, too. Even if greybeards kata isn't bad, it is full of spirit. The other one is shodan level, max.
