great video,also your station audible horn, we used to have several in county Monroe) The village of Fairport that had the old Gamewell box system used til 1986, now they have a small system not very loud until you pull away from the village, it goes off from 6:00 pm-10:00 nightly possibly used for a curfew alert, also the Laurelton Vol Fire in East Irondequoit had a loud Diaphone, until they rebuilt their station. Very loud when you went by the old station also when it went off at 12:oo noon with the neighbor town of West webster STH_-10 siren unison now both were removed some 10 yrs ago.

If that was a medical call, for example, that could have been the difference between life and death. Great video by the way!
@LowHudEmergency
@LowHudEmergency 8 жыл бұрын
Thank you! This department does not run medical calls and this was just an alarm with a chief already responding/on scene. Something more urgent like a structure fire, they probably would've been out quicker. Also, because volunteers may take some time to assemble for EMS calls, everywhere around here, and I'm sure most of the country, utilizes fly-cars, which are ALS equipped paid paramedics that can treat the patient until the volunteer ambulance arrives. Some of the busier "volunteer" EMS agencies even have a paid crew for one ambulance.

"just an alarm" An emergency is an emergency no matter what the call. I have ran several "just alarms" that turned out to be real structure fires. Since when is "its a Vol dept" an excuse for slow responses? Obviously several people are at the station just standing around looking "cool" as time goes and goes by. Horn is cool, the slow response isnt. Make improvements instead of excuses !

There is definitely a balance, you have to be in a hurry because you're responding to an emergency, but at the same time, you have to be careful and make sure you actually make it to the emergency. Especially in a case like this, responding to what is likely going to be a false alarm. This video just happens to start from the second the tones went out, so it shows all of the time that passes awaiting volunteers to get to the firehouse and respond. Its really a very average response time for many volunteer departments.

@LowHudEmergency
@LowHudEmergency 8 жыл бұрын
+Austin Halverson Its a siren (or some departments use horns, like you can hear in this video) that is activated whenever they receive a fire call. It was used back in the day before pagers and now is used as a backup for the pagers. It is very common on the east coast.

Tom H From the time the call went out to the time these two apparatus were on the road was about six minutes without editing. For a volunteer department, that's pretty average. Not to mention, the chief was on the road immediately and on scene within a few minutes. And also, this isn't their only station, so other trucks could've been on the road sooner.
@youtubemouthwash
@youtubemouthwash 7 жыл бұрын
Pure horse dunk. Your firefighters were at the station already (0:45 I see the same person inside the station that gets in the driver seat of engine), just to lazy to roll along with the hot seat firefighter walking around alot. Since when does a ladder jump in front of a engine for a fire alarm = possible structure fire?? Stop making excuses and make improvements instead.

My old chief would have had a melt down! As a former VFF we ran a "staffed" station 7 days week 20/24 hours a day. During the day we had 2 minutes to have the truck(s) on the road. At night it was 4 minutes. Who cares if the chief is on the road what's he carrying? Nothing but a support vehicle if you could call it that. 6 minutes to get a engine and a ladder truck rolling... Seriously why the heck was the engine sitting in the parking lot? Roll it... It has everything you need....
