Tool-assisted speedrun (TAS) of Cruis'n World Arcade Speed Test of All 12 Cars
-The goal of this TAS is to determine the cruising speed of all the cars in Cruis'n World.
-I tested all 12 vehicles on a straight, flat road to see what speed could be achieved.
-Here is the result sorted by speed: (in parentheses is the speed specified in the game)
Zombi XXX = 143 mph (144) (-1)
Road King = 143 mph (147) (-4)
El Diablo = 145 mph (144) (+1)
Sexium P6 = 145 mph (144) (+1)
Rhino 4X4 = 145 mph (145)
Humvee ATV = 145 mph (147) (-2)
Lady Bug = 146 mph (142) (+4)
Kamikaze AWD = 146 mph (142) (+4)
Orca = 146 mph (145) (+1)
Venom SST = 147 mph (142) (+5)
Gimpee = 147 mph (145) (+2)
Banzai GTV = 147 mph (147)
-In conclusion, you cannot trust the specs listed in the game. There are 3 cars that actually run at 147 mph: Banzai GTV, Gimpee and Venom SST.

Cruis'n World is the 1996 sequel to the 1994 arcade racer Cruis'n USA. Cruis'n World allows players to race on various tracks around the world. The game also features more cars than Cruis'n USA. This game introduced stunts to the Cruis'n series. Since you seem to be mainly concerned with top times (as opposed to getting to the front), another important distinction is how much speed each car _loses_ in the corners. (Is that what "skidpad" means?) Of course, this can be hard to measure, so I'd appreciate your insights. I will say that Road King did a _lot_ better in this regard than I expected.

Skidpad stats are a measure of grip that tells the player if a car can corner better than other cars, the higher the value, the better. A skidpad is a circular area of flat pavement used for various tests of a car's handling. The most common skidpad use is testing lateral acceleration, measured in meters per second squared (m/s2) or the scaled unit g-force. from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skidpad We should test to see if we can trust this information. But I think that for a TAS this information is not so important since I take all the curves in one of these two ways: -Turn the steering slightly to take long curves without losing speed. The steering angle could have been perfectly adjusted for each car. -Turn the steering all the way to minimize the skidding portion. So if I had done my job perfectly I probably could have taken a few more turns without losing speed but I think that's not the case for many turns.

@@Prog61 Oh wow... 😮I was _not_ expecting you to be this knowledgeable about the subject! Hey, much appreciated, thanks. Just speaking as someone who played way too many arcade racing games back in the day, shaving off hundredths of seconds was always one of the most endlessly aggravating, futile tasks, and handling sharp corners was by _far_ the worst part. (Outrun 4... shudder.) My hat's off to anyone who actually has the patience for this.
