remember that this is banfields parts, not ian's parts. if you split the channels and only listen to the right, you'll hear that banfield is panned a bit heavier in the right, ian heavier in the left. it makes it slightly easier to hear whats going on. ian's parts are louder in the mix however. i think theres also a fifth chord and then a seventh chord before that 2nd part instead of a regular powerchord and then a fifth. banfield also doesnt even play the root riff and only the counterpoint accent notes as well after the 3rd part. thats the way he did that live too, i think i included that for the sake of explaining how to accent the notes and keep the explanation of the parts going.. you can look at ian's parts as being more of a harmony part in the song that sits in the mix a little higher. id like to hear your take on it too, let me hear what you do! thanks for listening!

@@milez1918 in those years, mike used a tube works mosvalve amp with a les paul. ian also used a les paul thru a sunn beta lead with a danelectro daddy o for distortion. i believe he also used an ampeg svt classic and had an a/b box to switch between the two amps. this was prior to american don and what burns, and im not positive if ian was using that same setup in the studio for 2, but i cant see them changing up too much. when they toured singles breaking up which was soon after, thats what they were using. id say if youre looking for a general idea of the tone, you want something british, but still slightly rectified. thats the guitar tone ive always tried to go for myself because its so clear and defined, randall amps get me there better than anything else. maybe this helps!

Any chance you tab this or Ian’s part? I’m learning it with a tab from ultimate guitar but idk how it compares to what you have compiled

@@milez1918 good question milez, ive thought about it and i dunno about tabbing it honestly, because tabbing it would sort of take you away from the ear listening thats required to play it how they played it there. it might make things a little more difficult to tab it out, but if i had someone here to help me to tab it, maybe. the best thing honestly would be to divide the song up into sections, which is going to require you counting how many bars there are. i kind of know it from feel, but there was a lot of times they played it live that they messed it up, i think live with the lineup changes there was things they commited to in the studio that werent addressed with the other members in the lineup, or they didnt play it enough in practice. ians part is nearly identical in this except for the beginning of the song, ian is strumming rather than hammering. on the album, theres enough stereo separation that if you isolate the channels, you'll hear ian more on one side. ill look into tabbing software and see if theres something i could do to make each part more concise. perhaps a parts chart can help a lot, maybe ill draw something up and make a second vid entirely and go over the differences in ian's parts with that to show how they tie together. this era of don cab, the nuances in mike and ian's playing, its total chef's kiss to take apart like this, so i understand the frustration. glad to hear youre workin on it!
