New Super Mario Bros. was released in 2006 for the Nintendo DS. It is the first brand new side scrolling Mario game since Super Mario Land 2 on the Game Boy, as a way to bring the franchise back to its roots. It features your typical side-scrolling plumber, but in this case he comes with enhanced abilities, like wall jumping and doing flips. It also includes new powerups such as the mega mushroom and the blue shell. The latter being what this TAS uses throughout the run.
This run beats the previous run by 313 frames from better optimization.

Fun fact if you're in the shell and have precisely 0 Y-velocity, then un-crouching from the shell gives you a 1-frame window for another jump.

Something I want to mention is that those hyperspeed strats (where he's holding something and he throws it on a slope then jumps a lot, it's a bit faster than running) were really nice! I thought it was just going to be a W5 thing, but you guys proved me wrong. GGs!

I imagine it's like SMB and Yoshi's Island and games like that where you press jump the frame you touch the specific subpixel of the wall, and it thinks you're on the ground and you get to jump

Here's something interesting I noticed while watching this video: are the load times faster on the emulator used to make this TAS than they are on a regular DS or not? The only reason I am asking is because they appear to be.

TASes are only done on emulators, so that will impact the loads to be reduced compared to the regular handheld version of the game.

If you're in shell mid-jump and your y velocity is exactly 0 you can do a frame perfect double jump
