Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is a unique platformer where your character's power is defined largely by the kind of egg he or she is holding.
In this TAS, only the mandatory levels are completed, leading to a much shorter completion time than the 100% run ( tasvideos.org/2376M ) done by the same author.

Played the absolute hell of of this game and love it to bits. It's definitely rough around the edges, but it really did feel like one of the last times Sonic Team tried something different and didn't do a bad job of it. That said, ready to watch the game get scrambled.

Wish this game was more well known. Although it could use polishing, it was great during my childhood, a remake would be awesome

The multiplayer for this game was LIT. Had so much fun playing this with my neighbors so it's hilariously cool to see a TAS of it pop up in my recommended. Good stuff!

This was surprisingly a pretty fun game. Very polished and has that GameCube era feel.

The only thing I saw referenced to this game was in Sonic Riders for GC. It was the Sega Carnival course and the Pirate Island stage just unlocked that core memory for me. I hope someday that Sega's other IPs get love.

@@MangaEnthusiast Yeah, Billy is a playable character in that game. They also have race tracks based off of Blizzard Castle and Dino Mountain.

Funny story, but I looked at the resemblance between the models of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in this game, and the models for them in the Trial Version of Sonic Adventure 2. And it turns out that they are the exact same character design.

Probably my favorite game by sonic team I love Billy Hatcher he’s the best character and this game needs a sequel or another game

I was wondering why he didn't just rush to the end in the racing stages, but then I realized that it's like Koopa the Quick, where the race only ends when both reach the flagpole. The author commentary says that you need to break obstacles, so the other racers don't get slowed down by them.

I tried to play this game and love it all to bits, but there's a lot of things that simply didn't work for me. 1) I was just old enough that the premise and atmosphere didn't jive with me. That obnoxiously cheerful SEGA stuff never sat well with me. 2) I know the music is great, but SEGA games tend to have this awful composition. Jet Set Radio for example has a song where I want to punch the composer and the entire band. 3) The fact that the entire game is an escort quest, and your escort has no personality because it is an egg. 4) How hardline it was about unlocking words and missions. I never got very far because of this strict arm. The ice castle is infamous for how badly it is designed? Well, I never saw it. 5) The crowing/crooning mechanic taking up a whole button _and_ having a charge. 6) Having to "earn" moves instead of just having the entire repertoire unlocked. 7) The fact that the engine was based on the Sonic engine of the time, and carrying with it the very same terrible jank. 8) Please, shut up. If I wanted to have nightmares over some keet kid who made a noise every time he moved, I'd play Ocarina of Time again.

Not trying to start a fight or anything, but what do you mean in number 6? Every move in the game is unlocked at the start. In fact the only thing that’s unlocked in game is the chicken suit after playing the game for 10 seconds. Again, not an angry argument, just curious.

@@nachoguy707 Okay, so it has been literally over a decade since I've played this game, but I seem to recall it taking a while before it felt like you could break out all the moves. Though that may have more to do with the design of the worlds making it suboptimal to do so.

@@XanthinZarda If I remember correctly, it's more that the game doesn't teach you the moveset all at once. The moves are all doable as soon as you get the suit, but the game gives you tutorial info over the course of several levels. Not all of the moves have an immediately obvious use either, as half the time it's better to just circle around a big enemy and tap their backside with an egg, rather than risk getting your egg smashed.

The mechanics of this game are pretty frustrating. That was my main qualm. But geez man relax a bit. It’s just a game. If it didn’t work for you fine but damn does it sound like it lives rent free in your mind.
