Tool-assisted superplay (TAS) of Nagano Winter Olympics '98 arcade
-This is a quick TAS to close out the Winter Olympics.
-This TAS is not highly optimized, the goal was just to get a gold medal in each event.
-This game is listed as Imperfect Graphics and Sound in MAME. There are some small graphical glitches and there is no sound at the end of events.
------Events------
==Speed Skating 500m
-You must press the A button as quickly as possible.
-The maximum speed you can press is 1 frame every 2 frames (30 tps) to get about 64 km/h.
==Luge
-At the start you have to tap the button as quickly as possible, the maximum speed is 1 frame every 3 frames (20 bps)
-I think that when you reach 200 km/h you cannot avoid the walls which slows you down
==Ski Jumping Large Hill
-I don't know why my second attempt wasn't as good as the first, I'll have to work on that. I thought I could jump further with a stronger tailwind but it didn't work.
==Bobsleigh
-The fastest you can press the button at the start is 1 frame every 3 frames (20 bps)
-The fastest you can press B to get all 4 guys into the bobsleigh is to press with 33 frames between 2 hits (about 1/2 sec) so you can get all 4 into the bobsleigh in less than 3 seconds.
-After the good start I had, I could have let go of the bobsled without touching the control and finished with a WR 40:04 (instead of 36:37 while driving)
==Short Track 500m
-Difficult to TAS because you can't just quickly press a button.
-I started by playing the game and recording myself, then I changed the lane changes in the editor to block incoming traffic.
-BTW Left and Right on the joystick seem not to work for changing lanes, it's Up and Down that work
==Snowboard Giant Slalom
-I held the joystick UP to go faster except for a few gates. I think it could be optimized to keep it up all the way.
-The instruction says: "Make use of the edge button to make a beautiful turn" I think the word "beautiful" is the wrong word, it should probably be something like "faster"
-I thought button A was for turning left and B for turning right but it seems you always have to press A to turn faster.
==Alpine Skiing Super-G
-I held the joystick UP all the way down to go as fast as the game allowed me.
-Is there anything to do to start faster? At the first intermediate time (26:00) I had a +0.50 and I find it suspicious
==Alpine Skiing Giant Slalom
-I held the joystick UP all the way down to go as fast as the game allowed me.
==Alpine Skiing Downhill
-I held the joystick UP all the way down to go as fast as the game allowed me.
-At the first intermediary time I got a + 2.93 is there a way to do better?
==Speed Skating 1500m
-Same as Speed Skating 500m
-I use the B button (to turn) only for the first 3 turns. It doesn't seem to affect the result much.
==Short Track 1000m
-I did the same thing as in Short Track 500m, since it is not possible to go faster than the other players, the only way to win is to block the others.
-Note that in the replay it is not my player who finishes first!!!
==Freestyle Aerials
-I don't know why I didn't get 7.0 everywhere on the 1st attempt, but I got it on the 2nd
==Curling
-Not much to say here.
