Tool-assisted superplay (TAS) of Road Runner Arcade 24 Levels (4,152,960)
====Partial description====
See in the comments for the full description because I am limited to 5000 characters here.
The game consists of 4 different repeating levels. I call Round a group of 4 levels.
-You can get a maximum of 5 additional lives (depending on a parameter which can be 3, 5, 8 or 10)
-With the normal setting (named: "Increasing from 20000" in the settings screen), you get a life at:
20,000 50,000 100,000 180,000, 280,000
-After that, from 380,000 you get 20,000 bonus points for every 120,000 points
380,000 500,000 620,000 740,000 860,000 980,000 1,100,000 1,220,000...
-The first birdseed is worth 100 points. Each further one is then incremented by 100 up to 1,000. The points reset to 100 if you miss one seed.

-You can skip them, they don't count as normal seeds.
-But when you eat them, the coyote uses its magnet to slow you down. You have to keep this in mind in later levels when the coyote runs faster. I had a bit of a hard time with this at 29:34
-In this TAS, I ate them all because they give you the same points as normal seeds.
-Lemonades start at 1000 points, increase by 1000 when you drink it, but reset to 1000 when the coyote drinks it.
-The maximum is 9000 as shown at level 14 where the TAS drinks 7 consecutive lemonades for 9000 points each. (starting at 13:13) I was lucky enough to have invisible paint.
-The more points you get for a lemonade, the longer it takes to drink it. You need to remember this in your game strategy. I missed 2 lemonades at level 18, I couldn't drink them without the springing coyote grabbing me. I should have reset the value of lemonades before doing this level.
-The coyote earns you points if you lure him to a mine. Points range from 200 to 1600.
-I think the points are proportional to the distance between the player and the coyote at that moment. If you have another explanation let me know.
-I think it's the same if you lure him in front of a truck.
-Add to this the bonus points for killing the coyote at the end of the level.
==End of level bonuses==
-You get points for getting all the seeds on the level (not counting the Bird seed with steel shot)
-This bonus start at 10,000 and increase by 5000 each level, but reset each round to 10,000 + (round-1 * 5000)
-so you get:
10000, 15000, 20000, 25000 for levels 1 to 4
15000, 20000, 25000, 30000 for levels 5 to 8
20000, 25000, 30000, 35000 for levels 9 to 12
25000, 30000, 35000, 40000 for levels 13 to 16
30000, 35000, 40000, 45000 for levels 17 to 20
35000, 40000, 45000, 50000 for levels 21 to 24
-I don't know if it continues to increase above 50,000 points.
-You get 500 points for each Coyote killed in the level
-But, as we can see at level 21, the maximum is 99 coyotes
-You get 500 points for each time you jump over a mine
-But, as we can see at level 21, the maximum is 99 mines
-You get 10000 points if you didn't miss any lemonades
-I thought you got a few points just for running, but you don't. You get points just by being near the coyote.
-As seen at 27:25, you don't even have to run, just being near the coyote gives you up to 10 points per frame (600 points per second)
-And you can get 2000 points by running in front of the coyote for a few seconds (4-5 seconds?), as shown at 6:51.
-It seems that seed hitboxes are bigger than mine hitboxes. So when a seed is near a mine, one way to get the seed is to just run under them, the seed will be collected and the mine will not explode. (14:22)
-It is not possible to stay in one place for a long time, nor to run in a circle for a long time. After a few seconds, the playing field begins to scroll by itself and you find yourself at the far right of the screen.
Eventually you have to move because of the coyote chasing you and as soon as you go left the playing field also scrolls and won't let you go back.
To stop auto-scrolling, you need to move left past the middle of the screen as shown here: 18:00.
I think the auto scroll starts after 5 seconds of the player not moving. There are sections that do not have this automatic scrolling, for example the rocket section (at 19:21 I stay still for about 11 seconds)

It looks like there's two main ways you could play this game: 1. Treat it like a Sonic game - run through as fast as you can while getting everything you can and dodging the obstacles the game throws at you. Or 2. Constantly toy with your coyote foe to make him hit as many mines, vehicles and rocks as the game will credit you for (while still making sure to grab everything you can).

Good job on this TAS! I enjoyed playing this game JUST to get to the cutscenes of the actual cartoons. Good times man, good times.

I played this one a lot in the arcades... possibly the only post-crash Atari game I actually found fun. The main thing it taught me was that video games existed in a world of their own and I should _never_ expect an adaptation to be anything like the source material. To wit, if this game were anything like the cartoons, one credit would last literally forever, because the whole _point_ is that the Roadrunner *always* wins and Wile *always* fails. (BTW, I've seen snippets of the modern 'toons, and this is definitely still the case.) When I first started playing this, I was _shocked_ by how powerful an adversary Wile was. How relentless his pursuit was, how sharply he made turns, how deftly he leapt cannonballs and gaps, all those damn rocket skates which never backfired on him, brazenly cutting corners in the fork stages. (Plus he could get blown up by mines an unlimited number of times, while the poor bird was toast after one.) What could the Roadrunner do? Run a bit faster and make turns a bit sharper. And if he missed too much birdseed, he was done. Pathetic. And then after a while there were freaking mines everywhere and it was impossible to avoid dying all the time. I really wanted to see the steel shot (who didn't), but it was just _so hard_ to get to level 9... even more so due to that cumbersome "short cut", the only time Atari didn't bother with a proper continue system. So yeah. Stay calm, keep a sharp lookout, learn where the dangerous stuff is, pour on the speed when needed, and get as far as possible on one credit. The quintessential Atari game. (Man, I've been having a _lot_ of these nostalgia trips lately...)

Eventually, the rocket can change its height by at least half a screen, but for a TAS it's relatively easy to escape at the last second. -But, if you don't eat seeds, eventually the seed counter will go down on its own. (see at 26:36) At the start, you have 30 seconds before the counter decreases by one. But then it's only 10 seconds each step So the maximum time you can play without eating seeds is 1:10 I can post a video of that if anyone is interested. -Level 13 I wanted to kill more coyotes than usual but not slow down too much, I killed 30, which is not great for a TAS. -Level 17 I wanted to kill more coyote but catching the invisible paint wasn't the right strategy because the coyote is having trouble finding you, I couldn't lure him on all the mines I wanted. I got 63 coyotes, not bad but I could do better if I make it my main focus, which I did at level 21. I think the first level of a round is a good place to kill lots of coyotes because there are lots of mines and traffic. -Level 21 the only goal is to kill as many Coyotes as possible, at least try to kill more than 100. At the same time, I wanted to see if it was possible to get a lot of points by jumping mines. I waited for the coyote a few times, not running too far, to prevent him from running fast and giving me time to jump as many mines as possible. Halfway through level 21, I wanted to see what happens if you lose multiple lives one after another. When you lose a life, the game puts you back a bit in the level. If you lose a lot of lives, you end up way back. Being between two subsections, I found myself on an empty highway. It's fun to see the road without traffic or mines. So for level 21, I've killed over 99 coyotes, but the game stops counting at 99. I'll have to count them myself. Same for mine jumps, you are not rewarded above 99. (a good way to avoid cheaters) It should be easy to count the number of Beep-Beep sounds since they are buffered and we should hear them all. Killed coyotes will be harder to count accurately as sometimes he dies almost off screen. (I would have to find the ram location of this counter) ===It is possible to escape death even if the coyote has caught you=== -If the coyote caught you and touches a lemonade afterwards, he will drink it and let you go. (7:01 and 31:42) But you can't touch him when he's drinking, he'll interrupt drinking and grab you instantly. -If the coyote grabbed you, if he gets a rock on his head in the rockfall section, he will drop you. (14:20) -If the coyote caught you but in the next frame he hit a mine, he let you go (10:41) (I'll have to test if it works with more than 1 frame) -If the coyote grabs you and is hit by a truck, it will let you go but you won't have time to escape the truck yourself 31:44 -When an invisible paint bucket is on the screen, the coyote will try to grab it causing him to no longer see you sometimes with hilarious effect: 12:15 and 18:12 and 26:40 p.m. -When invisible, if you are very close to the coyote, a funny thing happens, he can't see you. (29:55 and 31:21) but he will eventually catch you. -I don't know why the game gives me the tongue bonus at 14:30 and 20:05. -At 22:53, it was the first time I saw the coyote fall with a HELP sign, hilarious. -I should continue this TAS to see if the difficulty continues to increase. But I think I went further than a normal human can :) -This is my first time making a video with an artwork overlay like this. Do you like it? I like that it changes the ratio to 16:9. It looks like the "tongue bonus" comes from one of the coyote's gadgets failing while he's very close to you. If you move away while he's still stunned, you'll get the taunt (and score bonus) a few seconds later.

I actually prefer without the art banners and keeping the video at its original aspect ratio. I like to watch in portrait mode on my phone and it's nice to have, say, 4:3 games being expanded to cover more screenspace.

Honestly it amazes me how speedruns of this game are even possible based on how fast he runs in this game you'd think that it would be hard to control him hopefully more speedruns of this game are showcased I feel like this would be the perfect kind of game to do a speedrun on i must also say that your skill on playing this game is absolutely impressive
