I've been looking for a 32 bit portable recording device for a while now. I considered the zoom F3, but sometimes I just like to whip it out and record so I prefer to have inbuilt microphones.
This device is pretty good really. I'm happy with it, but I do wish the power wasn't so irritating. You can hook this up to an external power supply if you want.
the tripod I was using in this video is also a power bank, so I had that as an option for power if the batteries did run out. However, they served me well through this trip.

Hey! Love the video. Been trying out the X6 and found the inbuilt mics very "muffled" and needs uplifting the treble by about 10db. When compared to using the XLR inputs, it's really clear the difference. Was recording piano in the same position with XLR mics and the Tascam inbuilt mics in the same position.

Hi mate. Thanks for watching. I have to say, I haven't experienced that at all with the inbuilt mics. It sounds to me like the unit may be defective possibly. Have you tried contacting Tascam about it?

I still use an old DR 44-WL. I'm also thinking about switching to a 32-bit device Can you tell me what the gain settings were in % for your recordings? Because that's my biggest problem with the old Tascam. Either too quiet or too much background noise.

There are no gain staging settings in 32 bit float

6:24 Which external mics would you recommend for stereo field recording? Thanks for the test by the way

Thanks. There are so many options for external mics that it’s difficult to say. I am a huge fan of my Clippy EM272’s as external stereo mics. So far, these are the only external mics I have used and the quality is excellent 👍. They are also reasonably priced too, low self noise etc. I’m sure there are many other options, But I haven’t explored those yet so can only really recommend the clippys.

Nice one mate, I've got the X6, a great little recorder but I have the same issue as you. Would you mind emailing Tascam (TEAC Europe) and tell them you have this issue. There are a small bunch of us with the same problem and would like to know if it's a firmware update fix or they are faulty units.

Hey 👋. I did email them and their reply was the following: “Regarding battery indication and operation time, brand-new EVOLTA alkaline batteries of Panasonic are used as the factory standard, so in some instances, 100% will not be indicated when general alkaline batteries are used. this relates purely to the actual display indication and certainly not the operation time that is unaffected Please test your unit with high-quality alkaline batties from, Evolta, Duracell, Energiser or Vartaand if you experience the same operation with battery life, I would advise that you return the unit to TAscam service via the supplier it was purchased from.” Not hugely insightful or helpful sadly. I do have a tripod that is also a power bank, so I am using that occasionally. However, it is frustrating. Part of me is convinced the unit is faulty.

@@EQAVOX have you tried their recommend batteries? I used the batteries which came with it but didn't make a difference so maybe we have faulty units. I have found that run time is not affected.

@@Goat.Herder I’ve tried all sorts. I read the Panasonic Eneloop Pros were what they were tested with, however I have these and still have the same problem. They do seem to last longer though that other batteries
