This is a review of the new Tascam Portacapture x6 handheld recorder.
This recorder is a great choice because it packs a lot of cool features, like
32-bit float, both as a recorder and audio interface, color touchscreen, high-quality built-in condenser microphones, different power options, various record modes, and more.
Another minor complaint I have about this recorder, besides the price and the build quality, is the material it is made of. It releases a strong smell of molten plastic almost like burned plastic that is quite potent and doesn't seem to go away, hopefully, whatever chemicals it's releasing are not harmful.
I was also hoping the preamps would be cleaner for something that cost £350.
Overall it is a great choice and I am happy to see things like touch screen, 32-bit float, and USB type C finally reaching these kinds of devices.
Out of 4 2000 mAh Nickel metal hydride rechargeable batteries I got between 6-7H of recording while the backlight was on and 24V phantom power was provided for both inputs.
I would be careful while scrolling up and down through the options because they can accidentally get toggled off/on.
