Nice! I came for the tape deck, stayed for the music! I was around and listening to this kind of stuff in the day, but never knew of this band. Thank you for posting!!

HI, Really nice presentation of the TSR-8, I use to have tascam 38 in they 80's and really like it... I was wondering about using a this type of analog machine in this digital age we are in, is there a way to do your work on this type of machine and transfert it to digital..using a digital converter... Thanks Charles....
@mask570002 жыл бұрын
yes, I record my new album on it, very good analog sound, it's easy, you have to record tracks after tracks, eight tracks, then, you have to buy a 8 in, interface audio, and just plug the 8 out of your Tascam in the 8 in of your interface audio, just play on the Tascam, and record in your daw by this way, you can mix in your daw the 8 tracks.
@dudedude7849 Жыл бұрын
I wonder how do you record 8 tracks to these types of tape recorders? Do you need to have some extra equipment that is attached to the mixer and then this equipment connected to the tsr-8?
@delatronics3257 Жыл бұрын
It has 8 inputs at the rear that can be recorded on simultaneously and you shouldn't need any other equipment, but I use an 8 channel mixer for input/output levels and EQ with all inputs and outputs wired in with a cable loom.
@dudedude7849 Жыл бұрын
@@delatronics3257 ah ok, the mixer also has multiple outputs. That explains all. I only dealt with small mixers that have a main output ))

@@dudedude7849 The mixer you need is called a "Line Mixer" if you need to record all channels at once (I don't personally do that, I record in pairs).

@@delatronics3257 could I ask you what does it mean to record in pairs. Thanks for sharing about line mixer, now I got an idea how its recorded on multichannel tape deck

How are you ? Having issues with my Tascam TSR-8. When pressing play, it would not play but when in rew/ffwd mode it seems to work normal. Any ideas ? Thank you
@delatronics325711 ай бұрын
There is a belt for play, but the FF and Rew are direct drive from the motor. Tascam Ninja sells belts
@TheonlyMrlab11 ай бұрын
Ok amazing, I figured it was the belt Thank you Cheers

can you monitor from the record head with this? does it have one?
@delatronics32572 жыл бұрын
Yes you can monitor what is going onto tape as well as direct source.

Tascam 48 kills this machine
@delatronics32573 ай бұрын
I used to have a 48OB as well which was a nice machine but with older electronics which were not as refined as the TSR-8, the 48 was also much heavier and had a rock solid build quality. Had a 34 as well at one point which was very nice but used a lot of plastic. Fostex BR8 have very good sound quality thanks to the modern electronics but their 8 track uses 1/4 inch tape and has lower build quality. Having worked on Akai, Teac, Fostex, Tascam, Revox and Ferrograph; I am definitely a fan of Tascam!
@HalSamuel4 жыл бұрын
Do you think these sound better than the 48/58?
@mask570002 жыл бұрын
not better but we are in the same league, but TSR8 are the last generation , so modern electronic, transport is softer, TSR 8 is my main recorder for my home studio and I like it so much

ANOTHER GUY NOT USING THE DBX NR...WHY NOT?
@delatronics32572 жыл бұрын
The hiss is negligible anyway, if the little there is bothers the recordist, maybe they should go digital.
@mask570002 жыл бұрын
Cause, If you use the DBX, you have to record softly, and without DBX you have to record hotter, then you will have not a lot of hiss, and you have this tape analog sound better than with DBX on, I tried with DBX on and Off, and DBX Off all the way for me, so much warmer and better !! If you want pure and clean sound ( DBX on ) go digital instead If you want tape sound, go DBX off with hot signal, ( +5 VU ) just my opinion Cheers

how do those 8 tracks work? They are mono right?

Yes mono, you need to use two tracks for stereo.

@@delatronics3257 hmm I'm interested in trying one of these... i recorded an ep of mine on a cheaper one ( from a digital source) and the bass just gets too distorted to be desirable... im wondering if a better deck like this one would help
@delatronics3257 Жыл бұрын
@@YoungNino2017 These are excellent machines (Better than Revox IMHO) but that tape sound is going to be different to digital in a pleasing way (Many main stream bands and artists like Adel are recording onto tape; so that says a lot).
@YoungNino2017 Жыл бұрын
@@delatronics3257 i could hear the difference in that mid-high saturation for sure, but the problem I was having on my cheap sony is it couldn't handle the bass signal cleanly, it was adding tons of distortion even while recording with about 8 db of headroom
@delatronics3257 Жыл бұрын
@@YoungNino2017 I've serviced many machines but never liked Sony. A cheap machine that is good is the Akai 4000 series but the TSR-8 is obviously on a way higher level. Another good machine is the Fostex R8 or M80 (see my videos), running on 1/4 inch; but they have limitations and are not put together as well, plus they are not a lot cheaper second hand for some reason (they do sound good though).
