Awesome tutorial!!! I've had maybe close to over 3 maybe 4 years worth of photos and videos saved onto my SD card and the internal storage of my Samsung Note 8 and it's finally time to clear up some space. I'm backing up the photos to my computer right now and also using Google Photos but Google Photos is a lot more efficient and quicker. Can never have too many backups in this day and age lol.

1) Is it better to use the Google Photos app on my Mac or the browser? 2) Also, does Google Photos keep a local copy on my Mac or does it go to the cloud for each access? 3) Once I have all my photos on Google Photos can I/Should I delete them from my Mac since Google Photos has a great search and access mechanism? 4) Finally, is there a way to backup the photos stored on Google Photos to an external drive attached to my Mac?

My problem is when I delete something from my Photos app, it also gets deleted on my Google Photos app. I dont know if that's supposed to be happening or if i have to change soemhting in my settings but i dont know. How it is acting now, im not able to save any space because i cant delete anything on my normal photos.

You gave me a clue when you showed the Google Photos up top on my internet favorites bar and that is where I found the GOOGLE PHOTOS right where I had put them last time a few months ago. I forgot since the last time when I found it. You were a life saver. However, I spent all day and THEN I looked at your video. I could have saved me enough time to have painted a sunset which I was going to do after I found the scenic picture I wanted to paint! Same thing happened before. Now I think I will remember where the pictures sinc to on my PC. 👍

Hi Tasia! First of all thanks for the video. I have a question. When I open Google Photos>library>Photos on device> I have my albums (Instagram, WhatsApp and others)> I back up & sync> then on Google Photos when I go below and Open on Photos, I see all the albums and pictures as Instagram on the same album, all my pictures are together 😦. IDK if that's automatically or there's another way to keep each album separate of the others and keep my pictures organized. Thanks in advance!

the travelling tip was useful - i never thought about that esp as i travel to Germany a lot and i notice battery not lasting so i've been trying to pinpoint why and what to turn off. so far my backup plan is take my iphone 3!! or try to use iPad for photos. it depends, samsung android phones have a "photos" app and don't include Google Photos. +1 though for google photos, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. The search algorithm is really robust, and helps you find old photos really fast. For example, you can search for fireworks, dogs, yellow, notes, paper, screen shots, licenses, etc. There's a google photos app for Mac for backup but you can use the google drive backup, since photos are uploaded to Gphotos through there anyway. I almost never use the Apple Photos application anymore. I wish I could upload full res photos though without paying for storage but that's another vid I guess. I had free full rez Gphoto storage with my Android Pixel3 and it was a crazy awesome photo year!

I have an android and it seems to back them up without having to open the app. If I take a pic and go to the app it's there already. I do have a question about getting space back on my phone. When I got my new phone the guy at Verizon sent all my current pics to google photos and then freed up that space in my phone but I could still access all my photos on my phone as they were on the google app. I now have a ton more pics, how do I preform the same task. Of course the same guy isn't at Verizon and when I went in to ask about it the girl looked at me like I was crazy. Thanks.

I absolutely hate Google photos. They couldn't have made it more confusing. The fact that I have to Google where my photos are saved, what all the different functions are in the menu, and what it means to archive them is ridiculous.

Right. So you do 'backup and sync'- and... Where do they go? 4:04 AFAIK- there is no way to find them online after they've been backed up.

So once I back the photos up in Google photo I'll be able to go to my camera roll on my android phone and deleted my albums and I'll have them saved to the cloud? Photos app on Android sync photos in the background. On Android, you don't have to open it to sync. photos app doesn't sync in the background only on iPhones
