Interesting that Alex gave the team of three a "5 minutes left" warning but gave the team of two a "you've had 15 minutes and 30 seconds" which seemed a little unfair that they had to remember the time limit whereas the team of three were told how much time they had left. It does feel like they were making it harder for the team of two.

In fairness the first 5 mins of each probably determined that, it was pretty clear that the team of 3 was struggling and the team of 2 was doing well so they left them to it more

Something that struck me as odd at the start of Ivo's faked task was that for someone whose head was fully wrapped in toilet paper, his audio was surprisingly crisp. However I never put any further thought into it after that, until he revealed himself.

In theory I have no issue with the second half of the live task. I just wish it had been a bonus point up for grabs rather than another five points. I don't think we'll really see the full "controversy" until the series ends and we know whether or not this task changed the eventual winner, but I also think people will drive themselves crazy if they get annoyed about unfair scoring in Taskmaster. Greg has never been consistent or particularly fair.

Yeah I think the live task was a bit unfair. The team of three should have been handicapped in some way. It was always going to come down to them “guessing” the number and considering they had time to remove items and start counting, it just felt like the game was designed against Frankie and Ivo.

The final studio task… it’s the first time that I’ve felt like not watching the show anymore. I just hope there is an equally unfair swing in the future favouring Frankie and Ivo. That live task confused me. I didn’t think it was fair for the team of 2 where they have no control over the task or a way they could have got points without the team of 3 messing up. I feel the 2nd part of the task should have added a line or made it clear that the team of 2 could do whatever they can to confuse the other team. (Eg if they were shouting numbers ect just for the hell of it would have been more difficult for them). But instead they just stood there and watched.

I agree with you Neil - this is a rare season ('season' makes much more sense than 'series' anyway) where I don't have any preference abut who comes first or last. The other big question I had was how Kiel was allowed to take his hands off of his head for the second part of the task. One minute to empty and count a pair of waders seems pretty doable in one minute, but much more challenging if the hands stay up--you'd have to pull out what you could and then estimate the remainders (or find the birthday card).

Never like team tasks in the studio , simply because only one person from either team can possibly win the episode and I prefer when there’s a battle on to win it between a lot of them. And ten points each is way too much of a swing, but other than that I loved the episode as always.

Was waiting for this video to have the discussion on the live task. The only live team task I think I remember really liking was Ed Gamble being teamed with David Baddiel and had to draw on backs in a line. But even then the teams were mixed up a bit. But normally I do not like them, it robs certain contestants from winning an episode if they have a teammate ahead even by one point. And this one in particular had problems. Firstly it wasn't clear if the first part could have been won by the team of 2 or not. Then the second part felt like it was made rather easy on the team of three when they could take items out and Kiell could remove his hands from his head. And it meant that by this point Frankie & Ivo had no chance to try and win any points, they were stuck with however the other team did. The massive point swing reminded me quite a bit of one of my least favourite tasks, which is the popcorn necklace/bell ringing task from series 12, where you would either get 5 or -2 points all depending whether you rang a bell or not that was basically a 50/50 guess. It just ultimately feels like the setback Frankie and particularly Ivo have had, will rob them from any chance of winning the series, and that's just after half the series. (and Ivo has even won two episodes) There's some fab live tasks from Kongen Befaler that I wouldn't mind if UK borrows, one of which I'm about to detail: There are 5 keys hidden in around the garden (a fake little garden set up on stage), the smallest is worth 5, then descending to the giant key only worth 1. You have X minutes (1 or 2, I can't remember) to pick a key, once you select a key you cannot look for another and have to keep your key. This was fun because it meant all the contestants could win points but there might be a fight for a low number if you wanted to be sure of any points at all.

this last three episodes has the most egregious scorring in 15 seasons. I'm so pissed off with the show right now. Seems Greg is doing everything to give Mae and Jenny points for absolutly no reason, then that final task. I don't know how the lady who bought the scratchcard can be considered Britain's luckiest person. They said she'd won £70,000 worth of prizes since 2012, but there are plenty of people who win more that that every single day, what with all the various lotteries, tv competitions, bookmakers, casinos etc. Being lucky would be winning big in the first competition you enter, not entering hundreds (possibly thousands) of competitions to win small in a handful of them.

Yeah, the stage task would've been much fairer if the losing team had to guess the number and were awarded the 5 points rather than an additional 5 points totalling 10. The team of 3 had an obvious advantage with 2 people stuffing things in at once, so obviously they would win. Giving Frankie and Ivo the chance to reclaim some points would've made way more sense.

Question: did the team of three have the birthday card in their trolley? Because if not, that is a pretty decent helping hand to the otherwise disadvantaged team of two... An alternative could have been to remove a few things from Frankie's trolley, so he had fewer things to stuff and more space to do it.
@kimaboe

There are a couple of cases of big swing tasks: In series 12, one of the filmed tasks involved ringing a bell, or not, and if you did the wrong thing you could get -5 points for the task. The winner of the task got 5 points meaning the spread was 10 points. This resulted in both VCM and Desiree Burch starting the episode off with negative points iirc. But the biggest controversy was series 2, there was a prize task in which each rabbit the contestants managed to get into their hat counted for an actual series point. The loser was Jon Richardson with 4, followed by Richard Osman with 7, both Doc Brown and Joe Wilkinson got 12 whilst Katherine Ryan got 15. Ryan ended up winning the series. It was a much bigger % swing too, considering the series only had 5 episodes. Her series score was 94, meaning this task alone accounted for 16% of that.

I think that the 10 points score’s was correct. As you say, the team of 2 could’ve count easier, even while putting the thing’s in the trousers and by a team of three it’s more than 73% chance of making a mistake. They may have some advantage by putting things in, but then you have no clue how much the other person has put in. There ware 2 tasks, 1 put in the trousers and the 2 how much, so 2 times 5. Some hilarious moments this episode and the spoon task in particular is a terrible but very funny tragedy. Poor ivo is his own and fankies worst enemy i think he just needs a hug. The longer the show goes on the more ivo and frankie do feel like a father son team where they are not that close but the father is trying yet a little disappointed. The final task though was awful i think it is the worst one (or at least one of) they have ever done, it seemed unbalanced to begin with since two people sorting is far better than one person but then to have the utter nonsense of the guessing task which the team of two has absolutely no control over and then that can make it a ten point swing that is madness.

The first episode of TASKMASTER I've actually hated. The show has often seemed to be scale-tipping (particularly against those who start strong and in aid of those who start less well), but that live-task was just the most egregious and hideously unfair instance of that scale-tipping the show has ever indulged in. The episode itself was pretty mediocre up until that point, but, damn, that live-task genuinely angered me. It's stupid, I know, as even Ivo didn't make much of it on the podcast, but the unfairness of it really pissed me off.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of any challenger in this show or elsewhere that is not competitive. I'll explain. Frankie and Ivo had to stand and watch for the second half of the last task. That's not competitive as they are basically doing nothing but hoping the others fail. They don't have a chance to defend or fight back. Imagine if soccer was like that. one team had to stay off the pitch while the other team had 5 seconds to get the ball from one end to the other and if they did they would win and it's game over. Not only that but they'd get double the points for winning than the other team would get if they lost. I'm crap at explaining things. Hope I made sense.
