Zaltzman is John Oliver’s longtime comedy partner. I’m not sure I’ve ever been as excited about a Taskmaster contestant as him.
@StarkRG
@StarkRG 2 ай бұрын
I don't think I've seen any of John's earlier work. I think the earliest I've seen him is also the first I saw of him which was on the Daily Show. It'd be cool if they did a British ex-pats series of Taskmaster (or, at least, a special). British comedians (and comedian-adjacents) who gave the Queen the finger (so, not any super-recent ex-pats) and became famous overseas. John Cleese is really too old for it, but you probably get what I mean. If they can't find enough of them (I can only think of about three off the top of my head, and one was John Cleese), they could be ex-pats who returned, so Eddie Izzard would be on that list, Peter Serafinowicz perhaps (though he's less famous by name than by his work), maybe Hugh Laurie. Tracey Ullman? Rowan Atkinson? (this broader category is much easier) Probably just a special rather than a full series, it'd be too expensive otherwise.

Babatunde has some very funny stuff out so I'm looking forward to seeing how he gets on. There was a post on Reddit from someone who had been to the filming of S18 and mentioned (in a very respectful way) that the in studio banter with Rosie is a bit slow. I'm sure with how good the editing team is, the pace of the show wouldn't be massively impacted

It's an exciting lineup. Andy Zaltzman I mainly know from The News Quiz on Radio 4, where he is very good. Jack Dee could go either way, he is clearly very quick and sharp, but he could lean more into the grumpy Jo Brand-esque side of his persona, so it's hard to judge. Rosie is an agent of chaos, so all bets are off.

The contestant I'm most interested to see how they do is Emma Sidi since there are three shows I've seen her in, I've put them in order of how much she appears in them: - Starstruck: A rom-sit-com written and starring Rose Matafeo, about Jessie (Rose) a normal woman working two jobs who ends up sleeping with a big movie star called Tom. It's a really sweet show, Emma plays Kate, housemate to Jessie and so features quite prominently. Apparently the two are great friends in real life, so I'm sure Rose will have given her tips. - Ghosts: A hilarious sit-com about a couple Alison (Charlotte Ritchie) & Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe) who inherit a mansion, and after a near death experience Alison can now see the Ghosts that linger around where they died. Emma is now the seventh Ghosts actor to be in TM: Charlotte, Kiell, Katie Wix, Lolly Adefope, Bridget Christie & Jessica Knappet. (Bridget, Jessica & Emma are more minor character in later series, but the rest are as main as possible) I could not recommend this show more! - Don't Hug Me I'm Scared: The recent Channel 4 series takes everything great from the original youtube shorts and adds even more wacky, dark, hilarious elements. Like with Ghosts, there are a ton of TM contestants, but here they all have small little voice roles: Sam Campbell (from series 16, who's also a writer on the DHIS show), Phil Wang, Lolly Adefope, Katie Wix, Kiell Smith-Bynoe. Utterly bonkers, and if you like a bit of dark humour I'd say it's also something you should watch.

Channel 4 does excellent subtitles and I advise your rewatch series 14 the have the most pleasure task and the snort/raspberry/whistle task with their own subtitles as they are brilliantly done. They have things like (in the studio) “inaudible conversation” which is nice cos you can see a conversation happening but even hearing people have no idea what is said and they all the hearing impaired to know they aren’t really missing anything that everyone else isn’t missing too.

Trust me, the other 3 we in the UK barely know. Zaltzman is a a comedian, writer and podcaster who has been in the game for a long time, but never hit mainstream. Not even a regular face on the panel show circuit. Sidi seems familiar as a support actress in sitcoms (a lot like Katie Wix). No clue about Babatunde, but again, the face is familiar. That's the vibe I got with all, but two of the contestants. My overriding thought as they were announced was 'Hmmm.... now what have I seen you in?'

Rosie had to have therapy due to the abuse she received when her appearance on the show was announced. She competed against Greg in a charity wrestling match once, shes very funny and mischievous. Did you get that from the Mirror article? Because it is not true. Her participation was announced quite recently. There has literally been no time for her to seek therapy. The article actually says, "The star went on to explain that she sought therapy after meeting up with one of the trolls during the filming of her documentary Rosie Jones: Am I A R\*\*\*\*d? The star added: "Doing that documentary took a toll on my mental health and I started therapy because of it, which I am so happy about."

Andy Zatlzman is better known as the host of The News Quiz (a radio show) and as a cricket scorer on Test Match Special in addition to his stand up stuff. Which explains his cricketing 'costume' for the show (although he probably just dug it out of his wardrobe rather than get something special for the show). Jack Dee typically couldn't be bothered with wacky dress-up and is in his normal suit (as befits his comic persona).

I posted this elsewhere but I think its still worth sharing here. Just for a bit of context, I have CP (left sided hemiplegia) also and I guess selfishly its a bit confronting seeing someone going through the exact same thing I am. I've struggled a lot with self confidence and with accepting who I am. I see this a huge win for anyone with a disability and a win for Taskmaster. About 15% of the world lives with a disability of some kind, some of which have a more visible disability that others. Yes accommodations will have to be made & yes the banter might be slower but this sort of thing needs to be normalised more. If this gets more people to see people with disabilities as people I'm all for it. I'm not sure if this makes any sense but this is hitting home & I'm glad for it.

It's not "spicy" to have an opinion on someone and judge her on her humour. Can we stop using a disability to judge someone on? Can we stop giving people a free pass? feeling pretty conflicted right now. as a past patreon supported i felt like you cared more for the patreon supporters as obviously they are actually supporting you out of their pocket. when you had your burn out you posted a video fro them very kind to let them know what was up. youtubers got treated like dirt we were less than and didnt even deserve a word. it was your supporters on patreon who had to take it upon themselves to kindly let us know what was going on, which wasnt their responsibility but they did it anyway. praises to them. so i decided hey since your back maybe its time to check out the patreon again. fallout is completed seeing the full reactions could be cool.....you have people supporting you today who have probably stuck around the entire year hiatus.... and they got nothing. full reactions are over completely. so weird those were the die hard had your back no matter what supporters and now that you started doing content again they got completely shafted. theres definitely a huge disconnect here. while people do youtube because they like creating content its also about community. if you dont care about the viewers why post a reaction? perhaps theres a problem with youtube where it seems to be a mutual relationship, you make the content because people want to consume it and people watch it because they like your personality and your insight. but what even was the foundation of youtube? just post your home movies online? it wasnt this exact way when it started was it? or maybe it was. i dunno. still feels weird to me trying to enjoy your content now that your back but you still seem very absent and we still dont have the knowledge because that burn out video has always been locked behind a paywall

lots of his content on youtube was taken down due to copyright, it has to be frustrating and also maybe he was afraid his channel might be taken down completely. It's quite reasonable that when he was mentally exhausted he used his last energy to focus on his paying customers, because they are the ones who should have at least an explanation. Yes, it would be better if the "community" was updated at least that he is alive, but we owe him for a free fun, not the other way around. Also I don't see any reason why to pressure someone who is already down... I have very similar problems with burn-out as him and after reading what you wrote, I would probably think either to remove the channel or myself, to be honest. I'm not sure how it's supposed to help or what was your intention, but I can assure you this is not how to "force" a person with mental health issues to function better...
