Wine barrels are usually made of oak but what kind of oak? Did you know that wine barrels are often toasted? Leslie Sbrocco, host of Taste This, visits winemakers Shauna Rosenblum of Rock Wall Wine Company in Alameda and Mike Sullivan of Benovia Winery in Santa Rosa, to get to the bottom of… the barrel.

Gross to pour wine back into the barrel after a tasting! Tainted with previous wine sample, spit, bacteria, lip balm, ...

Yeap. Gross. I just saw a tiktok of a winery doing this, and I’m now searching to see if this is common practice, which apparently it is. Glad I’m not a wine drinker.

I forgot wines still use barrels And I actually was thinking "are barrel crafting and companies one of those extinct jobs?"

When they say first year, two year, three year barrels… are they saying that there have been two or three seperate wines in the barrels for each corresponding year? Sorry.. rookie question
