Ghouls 'n Ghosts is a sequel to Ghosts 'n Goblins on the NES. On a quest to recapture stolen souls from Lucifer (Loki in this game), the player advances through a series of levels filled with demonic and undead creatures.
Usually, one would have to finish the game twice in order for it to end properly. Instead of doing so, the author of this movie uses a password to start off on the 2nd playthrough. Despite the game displaying "Practice" on the screen, this movie is indeed played on hardest difficulty. See the author's comments ( tasvideos.org/... ) for a more thorough explanation.
This movie has an Atlas Map encode ( • Sega Atlas: Ghouls 'n ... ) of Level 1-1, which shows the standard encode overlaid on a zoomed out map.

Overall, a fairly good port from SEGA. It has some cuts here and there, but it did fix something I didn't like from the arcade game; pushing diagonal directions on the joystick on the arcade game will make your character stop for no reason. The SuperGrapfx port even kept that bug in for some reason!

I prefer the Genesis version over the SNES for this game. I remember retrying so many times to beat the big wasp thing at the end with just a sword that I kept respawning with,, but I managed to somehow do it. Good speedrun. Although I prefer speedruns that aren't tool assisted. I'm not even sure to what extent tool assisted means. There is some strategy, quite a bit here and there, in the quick playthroughs of these games, such getting hit and moving on to avoid what would be a time consuming fight.

Tool assisted basically amounts to playing the game frame perfectly by being able to play it frame by frame.

Capcom could never do the genesis sound chip justice. but... this may be the worst sounding capcom game.

Really? I thought this was pretty good sounding; it's close to the arcade OST too. But two things: 1) This was actually ported by SEGA 2) The actual worst sounding Capcom game is Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo on the same console
