ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
ABOUT US
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

My girlfriend died almost two years ago. About 1-1/2 hours after she passed, I was standing at her left side. (She was laying on her back). I began massaging her forehead with my left thumb at the area known as "the third eye". I accidently brushed her solar plexus with my right hand at the same time. Instantly I saw her subtle body. I saw it; I heard it; and I felt it. The experience was very brief, only a matter of several seconds. And I immediately thought to myself, "Oh! I made a circut!" I feel very blessed to have this connection with her.

I have listened to your lectures & other wise Vedanta leaders daily for years. I serve, meditate, and study with a deep love for all in my heart & mind, always. I cannot look deeply at peace without looking deeply at war. I see pain is a part of life. But suffering for domination & profit which destroys our Great Mother Earth and her children, I’m not so sure. War is a business. All children are my children because I am them. Karma is opportunity, yes? I must act and speak the truth I understand with love and clarity, but I fear the evils that will surely seek revenge. Courage.

When you see a movie on a big screen, do you imagine the people or things need saving? When you read a fiction, do you imagine the characters need rescuing? When we're in a dream, do you think the people need saving there? What you're trying to do is reconcile the evil in this world with the teachings of vedanta. The thing is, vedanta goes beyond good and evil (duality) into the realm of Oneness or non-duality. Once you understand your true nature, that doesn't mean the evil in the world will vanish, you see it in a new light. If you realize you're immortal, the suffering child is immortal, and that even the evil banker is immortal - what then is a lifetime of pain, what then is evil besides the absence of good? It only becomes a matter of degree.. darkness becomes the absence of light, evil becomes the absence of good- they are not opposite. It doesn't mean we should sit idle and not help others, but how significant is a lifetime in the face of eternity? Just as water travels down a stream, sometimes the water is muddy, sometimes the water is pure, but when it reaches the Ocean it returns to the absolute. Someone evil in this life might be the one suffering in the next. That's how karma and Samsara work, an infinite game of musical chairs where we all keep switching roles. As pure and good as we might see ourselves, we were not always that. The movie on the screen will constantly change. Only the watcher remains perfect, absolute, and untouched. Realize that, and act from a place of Oneness and you will relieve all of the suffering and heighten awareness to the truth. Good luck to you and I hope you find the peace you're looking for. I was struggling with the same dilemma for a long time so I thought I'd share my view.

I think it would help you to study further vedanta texts to clarify. I recommend Viveka-Chudamani by Shankara as well as modern writers like Swami Vivekananda, particularly Jnana Yoga. If you really like reading, I believe of all the books I've read, Yoga Vasistha by Swami Venkatesananda tells the story of advaita vedanta perfectly. You see, when Swami talks about Turiya or the fourth, that which is the Gold or the Absolute Reality, he's not talking about just that aspect of blankness, or deep sleep. It is not waking, it is not dreaming, it is not deep sleep, but it is the thing that exists unchanged in all 3 states. That is what you are. Maya is everything outside of that. But Maya ultimately is Consciousness. The final revelation, at least to my understanding, is that Maya is not separate from that pure awareness and everything just is. It's as if every state of mind is like being in a dream. The only thing that is real is the dreamer. And meditation will definitely help, grab a rudraksha mala and let Om reverberate through you. It will reveal itself to you.. Good luck to you and I hope you find the peace you are looking for.

@akhilsantosh4332 3 жыл бұрын
Deep sleep is a passive experience where as meditation is an active experience where you are actively shutting the mind and dwelling deep into your real nature and experiencing the bliss, It is better to practise meditation and get the 1st hand experience as swami vivekananda has said that experience is the best teacher Hence, try to meditate and experience the bliss also you can read the Mandukya upanishad or the lectures on mandukya upanishad which talks about AUM and four states of consciousness including turiya

Maya is superimposition..an illusion.But to enjoy n understand this we need Maya, creation.lt's like the bee that wants to taste the honey than be the honey.We are a differentiated effect from an undifferentiated whole.
@z3rocodes
@z3rocodes 3 жыл бұрын
@@pravinakilpady1237 Maya is simultaneously a superimposition on the Absolute Reality while also being a part of that absolute reality. All is One, All is Brahman. If a person realizes that the rope is not a snake, the rope does not disappear. Likewise, piercing the veil of Maya does not mean reality vanishes. Maya does not exist independently outside of Brahman. Maya exists because of ignorance. Maya and Brahman are the same, what differentiates the two is the light of consciousness which brings forth the one Truth. Differentiation only exists within Maya, which is constituted of name and form. Brahman is absolute dissolution, no name and form exists but only one singular truth/reality. Both are the same thing, but differ only in degrees of either ignorance or knowledge. Either you know it or you don't. The bee is not separate from the honey. The cause is not separate from the effect. The cause IS the effect. That is non-duality or advaita vedanta.

I think we are saying the same thing in different words n ways.. this is conceptual understanding n only experiential knowledge will give a taste of the Real.. That what's so fascinating abt this.. it is unique for each one n we must celebrate that multiplicity n yet not get lost in the illusion.

Be the Doer of things that are not under your control!! Just be the experiencer of everything that is going on around you, just like a movie! Never let anything stick on your consciousness! That Thou Art, my friend! You are the one who is the all pervasive Bliss! Never worry what you get and what you don't! It has nothing to do with your body and mind!!!

Om shanti. U r a treasure trove of Spiritual knowledge. I am learning . Pl, teach the Pujaris in India that they should not exploit the devotees of their money. Money should go directly into the donation box.The money should b managed by a team of honest people.

Swami, your Vedanta has the foundation built on physics, especially in the field of Conciousness. A nobel is waiting for you before you make the final plunge into Turiyam, the Parapurnam Ocean.

Werner Heisenberg _" Quantum ideas which seemed so crazy made sense only after reading hindu/vedic metaphysics". Point is modern quantum science is based on Vedas not the other way round.

@@kgfgamer7928 The lectures of Swamy help me fast forward to make a break through. One of this, is to make or break situations in the world and nobody will know who has done it. Knowledge of Brahman is knowledge on a very dangerous weapon. You are not God, but like God you are Omnipresent. Must be careful in handling the break through. Thank you for your commendation.
