Project Aurora - a £30 million investment into Tata Steel's Corby site - has reached a critical milestone with the new combination mill starting to arrive.

Ah, but not to make the highest grade flat carbon steels as they have started to do in the USA

@@TataSteelUK Liberty Steel is already producing steel for the aerospace sector via EAF, which has a very low tolerance for residual elements through careful scrap management. Charging DRI and pig iron isn't new technology either. The application is new, the technology is not.

What is the TL:DR of this new mill install? what quality of tube is it producing because iv heard EAF steel is sub standard not top quality steel.

As more companies invest in electric arc furnaces, the number of steel grades produced using this method has increased. One of the great things about steel is it can be infinitely recycled without losing strength or other properties. We're able to produce over 90% of our current steel grades using an electric arc furnace.

How can you claim your ach furnaces as environmentally friend when did UK power grid is powered by natural gas turbines? Surely it's more environmentally friendly and economical to just burn the gas directly in your furnaces?
