Midway through the Judo World Championships, Iranian female judo fighter Leila and her coach Maryam receive an ultimatum from the Islamic Republic ordering Leila to fake an injury and lose, lest she be branded a traitor of the state. A film by Guy Nattiv & Zar Amir Ebrahimi.

This movie is NOT the actual story. The film was inspired by a real-life incident four years ago when Iranian judoka Saeid Mollaei was ordered to lose bouts to avoid competing against Israeli judo champion Sagi Muki at the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo. I don't know why they couldn't just tell Saeid Mollaei's amazing story. Instead they gender swapped it and made it about a woman's struggle. Men have struggles too.

Greetings from the Caribbean. Agreed. Also, the purpose of sport _ the main, original reason _ was to bring warriors from nations that were strategic enemies together, in competition, in order to OPENLY SHOW WHO WAS BETTER, WITHOUT BLOODSHED TO REDUCE THE THREAT OF WAR. Apparently, that's been forgotten...., or purposely ignored - or twisted for political gain.

@@raksh9 so they're telling a completely different story instead while claiming that it's based on real events? My first thought was, Iran's motivation in the trailer made no sense. Of course it doesn't. If your athlete is winning, why would you tell her to lose on purpose male or female? Unless it has something to do with war. But that's not the story they're seem to be telling here.

Дело в том что ЦРУ а ранее Британия и создала проблему под названием Иран нет такого народа как иранцы а есть Южный Азербайджан Курды лурды и ьелуджы а также арабы. 40 МИЛИОНОВ Тюрков Южного Азербайджана лишены права быть Тбрками и это выгодно западные странам. ИРАН это как росия для её соседей

Because they consider sparring with the Israeli athlete is an acknowledgement of Israel. You'll find and hear of similar stories in various countries that are against Israel. In those countries their governments did not try to pressure them. But depending on what the athletes did (whether compete or withdraw) there is always a media backlash either way. Egypt has had its fair share of incidents like that.
